- Making an end grain is no more challenging than a regular one. It just takes a little longer due to the double glue up. One of the advantages of this kind of cutting board is that it's easier on your knives.
I hope you enjoy this video. Please let me know if there is a project you'd like to see me make and I will do my best to do it. Thank you for all the support you have shown me and the channel!

This is a board someone can actually use. The wife thinks boards with busy patterns would trigger a seizure every time she cut vegetables on it (and she's not epilictic). So it's a single wood species for us.
Thank you! We use this one all the time. Due to it being an end grain cutting board, it stands up to the repeated knife cuts without showing any signs of wear and tear. Have a blessed day! - Ed
No idea what you do for a living but you have serious engineering genes. Very well layed out and a. Great finished product
Thank you! I've worked in the computer field for the past 25 years. Math has never been my strong subject so I actually surprised myself with that math. ha ha. Take care! - Ed
Fantastic looking cutting board Ed. Great work. Take care mate. Cheers, Huw
Really nice cutting board, Ed. You went all fancy on us with the CNC. Take care.
Bill
Thank you Bill! This board is for my wife. She is Italian and wanted it more as a display piece that she can use also. But yeah....kind of fancy. ha ha
Board looks nice but what is the point of all of these accurate cuts etc when not alliging pieces on glue up? Creates ton of extra work (and losing in thickness)
Nice one, Ed!
Thank you John! - Ed
Ugh Math 😆 it turned out nice Ed.
Nice job on this
Thank you! - Ed
Great job I live how it came out and the detailed explanations. Perhaps if this boards is not only for dry products. I would suggest routing in a concave for the liquids to flow into on the edge of the board both sides.
Thank you Adam! I agree about the juice groove. The board is for my wife. It's more of a display piece that will see light use. - Ed
That turned out very nice! Ash is always a great wood to work with. Do you think softer woods like poplar would make a good cutting board? I've got some poplar I salvaged from an old arn and it's greener than grass. Take care and GOD BLESS 🙏!
Thank you Stephen! That's great question. Technically, I think you could do it, but being on the softer side, it probably won't stand up as long. That said, I say go for it. Have a blessed day! - Ed
how do re-oilings go after the wax finish? do you have to strip it ?
Great work! I plan to use a very similar drum sander (Jet 22-44) What grit sandpaper did you use to surface? I am worries that 80 grit will burn terribly, but a higher grit won't take material off fast enough.
Thank you! I use 80 grit. You have to keep the speed up and you won't get any burning. If you notice you are getting some burning, just increase the speed. I haven't had any issues so far. - Ed
I looked at the other comments, apparently I’m the only one who is bothered by the mistake in pattern. 🤷🏻♂️ Am I the only one who see’s this?
A great looking board Ed. I wanted to ask if your Instagram page was hacked I received some weird DMs from it. I ask because my original account was hacked.
Very nice board, but would have liked to see the engraving of the map
Thank you! I'm going to redo the engraving and will do a video of that. The way it is now, you can barely see it. I've learned a lot about using the laser engraver. I feel like I can make it show up a lot more now. Make sure that you are subscribed so you don't miss the video. - Ed
On your planer, thats the lever you lift before adjusting the height down?
I got some nice ash wood at home and plan to make a cutting board. I now read that ash wood is an open end grain and might not be the best for cutting boards. What is your opinion on open and closed end grain for cutting boards?
I did not catch the type of wood you used.
Absolutely amazing, nice job Ed
Thank you Donald! - Ed
absolutely beautiful! very well done, thanks for sharing! 🙂✌
Sardenga
Thank you for watching! - Ed
That's really nice, Ed! Very nice indeed!
Very nicely done. I like how the grain pattern is once you put the oil on the board. Thank you for sharing your video.
Very nice! But Sardegna not Sardenga
how did you do the map? you didn't show it.
Thanks for the quick math :)
Really enjoyed watching you put this board together- thank you for the math explanation. What was it that you spayed on the board while sanding, I figured it was alcohol but it wasn’t evaporating? Anyway, great job!
It was probably water. It raises the grain and makes for a smoother finish. Spray it when you get up to 150 or 220 grit. Spray with the water, let it dry and sand again. Rub your hand across it before and after the water, but before sanding after the water and you’ll feel the grain raise.
What type of dust collection system do you have for your drum sander? Opps, just noticed you got it in your descriptions. 😀
Thank you for watching! -Ed
Amazing work
