    i have an old ammo box i really like but never even thought about making one!
    oh and i wonder why the have the hinge mounted the way they do? that appears to be how they are all mounted. id assume the hinge would go out?

    • @AdventuresInDIY
      @AdventuresInDIY  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Maybe so they won't catch on anything? Not sure. The bonus on the ones I was using from Walmart is they only opened just past that 90 degrees so the top stayed open and not slam to the ground.

    Very cool, funny thing is I just started making boxes like this for my truck and garage a few days ago :) Great way to use a bunch of stored pallet wood.

      Great Minds :) Nice thing is the pallet wood doesn't have to be "nice" since you're painting it.

    Great vid...what's the name of that tool you used to label the box?
    Found myself an extra long wood pallet in the alleyway!
    I'll either have two boxes, or one (if I screw the first one up haha)
    God bless

    Speaking of ammo boxes, have you ever checked out your local ASP? Ammo supply points used to get a bunch of scrap lumber from dunnage used for safe shipment of the goods. Usually (and this was more than 20 years ago) it was easy to get some pretty good material for the asking. Are you going to make a tiki bar in PJ motif?

    • @AdventuresInDIY
      @AdventuresInDIY  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the heads up Ken! Tiki bar....hmmm...my neighbor has a tall palm tree in his yard I think he's not using. I could do some chainsaw carving on that baby :)

      @MRrwmac 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +AdventuresInDIY Machete carving on palm trees, ohh the memories. Even better with a chainsaw. No worries about giving your position away.

    Stackable mortar/arty boxes. Who would have thought - haha. What no ropes and stencil for contents? Used to stack these and the longer rocket boxes like Legos for sleeping huts.

    • @AdventuresInDIY
      @AdventuresInDIY  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Man that's cool! I was thinking of doing stencils on the inside, but then I did a reality check and asked myself, "Am I going to keep adding stuff to these things and never get to the next project??" .... I'm still totally thinking of doing something on the inside of the tops :) (stencils calling my name)

    @AdventuresInDIY First of all Congratulations on how great your ammo crate looks. I ended up here because I'm making a large ammo box myself to be able to storage my airsoft guns. Just have a question as I'm not an English native speaker, what is it called that IRWIN blue tool you use in the video to hold that hasp latch in place? I'm looking for one but I have no idea what it's called. Thank you so much in advance for any help! 😊👍🏻‼

      I'm guessing you've already found out, but just in case you haven't. It's a "vise" or this style might be called a bench vise (because you mount it on a bench or working surface) there are all sorts of sizes and styles

    This is awesome dude I might make a few. If you don't mind me asking how much did this take to make (wood only$

    • @DaveSmith-cp5kj
      @DaveSmith-cp5kj 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It is actually quite expensive. I make mine a larger size but the cost of wood consumed is about the same since I use particle board. You can expect it to cost about $20-50 per box depending on your size. Personally there are plastic crates with wheels from walmart fro $10-20 which are much more practical and cheap (considering no work to be done). I mainly use my crates stacked on top of each other which serve as weapon and ammo storage (kind of like modular shelving)

    I gave up making wooden ammo crates. They cost me like 47 dollars each with hardwear. I made 3 for cases of shot gun shells. where i just drop a case of 410, case of 20 ga. case of 12 ga. in >>> and that is it! NO MORE WOODEN CRATES > They are awesome. well made. but very very pricey !
