An Indian politician born in a Bengali family, Pranab Mukherjee, served as the 13th President of India from the year 2012 until 2017. He has served as a senior leader of the Indian National Congress and has held various ministerial posts in the Indian Government. But, Pranab Mukherjee was sidelined from the INC after the assassination of Indira Gandhi.
Before becoming the President of India, Pranab Mukherjee worked as a Union Finance Minister from 2009 to 2012. He received India's highest civilian honour of the Bharat Ratna in 2019 by the President of India, Ram Nath Kovind.
The President of India Ram Nath Kovind will confer the highest civilian award, Bharat Ratna, in the country to former President Pranab Mukherjee, late Assamese singer Bhupen Hazarika and late social activist Nanaji Deshmukh during a ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhavan, in New Delhi on August 08, 2019.
