That made me really sad, but I still wanted to try my best and I'm glad that I won. My parents were glad too. I get that people think the father son duo are too cocky, but I love them so much! There confident and loud yes but they have their humble moments too. They're so funny and supportive of each other it's adorable! And the son looks so happy to be there and like he's genuinely enjoying everyone's stories and performances. They made me smile so much!!

I don't like judging people, but I wouldn't like to be in Somi's dad position. I mean, hearing that your daughter is eating 3 bananas a day for a week just because her agency told her she looks fat (really?), would make me so worried about her health that I would drag her out of the showbiz. I guess we have different points of view and I don't know him or his family, but knowing how entertainment agencies treat the girls I wouldn't sleep the night. No, his face screamed discomfort in hearing Somi talk so proudly of her successful diet. I thought JYP the company would be better than others, considering they seem to care about their idols or at least prefer "healthy looks", but in the end they all use the same evaluation. It's too bad really. The worse thing is how even if you feel okay about yourself, the company will probably guilt-trip and brainwash you into thinking you're fat - that is how trainees feel the urgency to lose weight and talk about it afterwards like it isn't anything out of place.
I guess he is pragmatic. As long his daughter is ok with it and can follow this strict diet, I guess it's fair. It's not that demanding. Some girls do that without being told by their bosses to do it in any developed country and fathers do jack shit about it. Also, this showbiz is harsh because of competition, if she can't do even that for the standpoint of view of the agency, she isn't being serious about her work. These trainees have military level discipline there. Now it doesn't mean I agree with it too. This is how Korean showbiz works and Somi's father seems to understand it. The agencies there will only pick the cream of the crop. At least he is keeping an eye how the agency is handling her career and even helping promoting her. A little dance doesn't hurt. I'd be more embarrassed in Dongjun's situation basically being called an attention whore by MCs and being cool with that. Each country has its downsides and upsides.

Somi's dad should be happy! This daughter helps to pay the bill and probably give the family a better life. Frankly speaking, most Caucasians move to Korea after marring don't really have a career to be proud of.
I would assume that his desire to see her achieve her dream of becoming an idol outweighs the extremes of her getting there.. It's hard being a parent, you want the best for your child of course, but you also want them to follow their dreams, because that's what *they* want. At the end of the day, you are their parent, not their owner.

The story of Somi's dad getting emotional too when Somi didn't make the cut for Twice is really touching. I'm watching this in 2020 and Somi have had her ups and downs by now. But one thing for sure, she is a very resilient human being and that's admirable of her. I'm glad now she debuted as solo artist and her label seems to treat her so well (based on what I've seen on the show "I Am Somi"). Somi, fighting!

It seems the majority is on a diet over there, and it's certainly expected of idols to be on them, especially female idols. They will simply say "oh, I just didn't eat!" when asked how they lost "all that weight" before their debut, and of course, everyone will nod along in unison, no hesitation, as if this is completely normal behaviour and not destructive in the slightest...

I think it's so meaningful that AKMU said that they grateful for what they have (physically). It really nice to see people who grateful for what they have and I can tell that they look prettier by taking care of themselves, know what's best for them and maybe loose abot of baby fat. I'm happy to see this episode. I need to remind myself from time to time that I'm good enough and not ugly at all. This episode reminds me to be grateful :)
I see so many people here comparing themselves to Somi, about how they're older or the same age yet aren't talented or beautiful like Somi. Whereas she is absolutely gorgeous and really talented, she's a very relatable girl and people shouldn't look down on themselves. hello. i am mongolian. since akmu didn't have many friends in mongolia, they misunderstood about mongolian beauty type. mongolian standart of beauty is just like other asian countries. big eyes and high nose. suhyun is just a normal girl in mongolia. but the difference between korea and mongolia is even if you are ugly or so-so, you will be never treated differently in mongolia. we also count girls with good smile or good skin as "pretty". so it's not "beauty". suhyun is just pretty. and when she spoke mongolian, there wasn't any mongolian word but the funny thing is her voice tone was exactly the same lol

I love going back and watching how far Somi has come. She talks about her agency saying she was too fat and then thinking about the time when Teddy (Black Label) told her she looked very pretty after she was crying and her face was swollen because he thought she was too skinny and he liked that she looked healthy. Sometimes it takes time to find the right fit but Somi definitely found it Black Label and being/staying true to herself. ♥️

I don't like judging people, but I wouldn't like to be in Somi's dad position. I mean, hearing that your daughter is eating 3 bananas a day for a week just because her agency told her she looks fat (really?), would make me so worried about her health that I would drag her out of the showbiz.

No, his face screamed discomfort in hearing Somi talk so proudly of her successful diet. I thought JYP the company would be better than others, considering they seem to care about their idols or at least prefer "healthy looks", but in the end they all use the same evaluation. It's too bad really. The worse thing is how even if you feel okay about yourself, the company will probably guilt-trip and brainwash you into thinking you're fat - that is how trainees feel the urgency to lose weight and talk about it afterwards like it isn't anything out of place.
I guess he is pragmatic. As long his daughter is ok with it and can follow this strict diet, I guess it's fair. It's not that demanding. Some girls do that without being told by their bosses to do it in any developed country and fathers do jack shit about it.
Also, this showbiz is harsh because of competition, if she can't do even that for the standpoint of view of the agency, she isn't being serious about her work. These trainees have military level discipline there.
Now it doesn't mean I agree with it too. This is how Korean showbiz works and Somi's father seems to understand it. The agencies there will only pick the cream of the crop.
At least he is keeping an eye how the agency is handling her career and even helping promoting her. A little dance doesn't hurt. I'd be more embarrassed in Dongjun's situation basically being called an attention whore by MCs and being cool with that. Each country has its downsides and upsides.

Somi's dad should be happy! This daughter helps to pay the bill and probably give the family a better life. Frankly speaking, most Caucasians move to Korea after marring don't really have a career to be proud of.
I would assume that his desire to see her achieve her dream of becoming an idol outweighs the extremes of her getting there.. It's hard being a parent, you want the best for your child of course, but you also want them to follow their dreams, because that's what *they* want. At the end of the day, you are their parent, not their owner.

The story of Somi's dad getting emotional too when Somi didn't make the cut for Twice is really touching. I'm watching this in 2020 and Somi have had her ups and downs by now. But one thing for sure, she is a very resilient human being and that's admirable of her. I'm glad now she debuted as solo artist and her label seems to treat her so well (based on what I've seen on the show "I Am Somi"). Somi, fighting!

+Moana that's what I like the least about South Korea.. People just aren't sensitized about eating disorders over there. They say it so casually because to them it is a casual subject, you know? It seems the majority is on a diet over there, and it's certainly expected of idols to be on them, especially female idols. They will simply say "oh, I just didn't eat!" when asked how they lost "all that weight" before their debut, and of course, everyone will nod along in unison, no hesitation, as if this is completely normal behaviour and not destructive in the slightest...

I think it's so meaningful that AKMU said that they grateful for what they have (physically). It really nice to see people who grateful for what they have and I can tell that they look prettier by taking care of themselves, know what's best for them and maybe loose abot of baby fat. I'm happy to see this episode. I need to remind myself from time to time that I'm good enough and not ugly at all. This episode reminds me to be grateful :)
I see so many people here comparing themselves to Somi, about how they're older or the same age yet aren't talented or beautiful like Somi. Whereas she is absolutely gorgeous and really talented, she's a very relatable girl and people shouldn't look down on themselves.

hello. i am mongolian. since akmu didn't have many friends in mongolia, they misunderstood about mongolian beauty type. mongolian standart of beauty is just like other asian countries. big eyes and high nose. suhyun is just a normal girl in mongolia. but the difference between korea and mongolia is even if you are ugly or so-so, you will be never treated differently in mongolia. we also count girls with good smile or good skin as "pretty". so it's not "beauty". suhyun is just pretty. and when she spoke mongolian, there wasn't any mongolian word but the funny thing is her voice tone was exactly the same lol

Guysss. My Phs. Ed teacher's last name is Douma and he said that his brother is a famous actor in Korea. He said his brother also has a daughter named Somi. Is it a coincidence that Somi's birth name was Ennik Somi Douma? Plus, my Phys. Ed teacher does sort of look like Matthew Douma. They both have a similar face structure. Somi originally came from Canada, which is where I live in right now. My Phys. Ed teacher says that he might talk more about them, so I'm really excited to see if it's the actual Somi. :D

I love going back and watching how far Somi has come. She talks about her agency saying she was too fat and then thinking about the time when Teddy (Black Label) told her she looked very pretty after she was crying and her face was swollen because he thought she was too skinny and he liked that she looked healthy. Sometimes it takes time to find the right fit but Somi definitely found it Black Label and being/staying true to herself. ♥️
