These heavily imply later games rebooted most of the unused concepts. The *moth creature* is hinted again in the Silence of the Lambs room in Silent Hill 2 and they swarm as part of the last boss's attacks, yet they're not fully developed until Silent Hill 4, which was the best bug enemy they accomplished. The *ostrich creature* seems to have inspired what later became the Twin Victim in Silent Hill 4, that would explain why they sprint towards you and why walking over its hand-legs are inhumanely bird-like. The *snake creature* is interesting, not only for its resemblance to Japanese folk bestiaries (as in the Tsuchinoko), but because it implies sexual innuendos that were actually more proper applied in Silent Hill 3, where they reused it in steroids in the Mall boss fight while hinting the sexual awakening stage of the main character as well. The saddest case seems to be the *monkey creature,* for it has an uncanny resemblance to Silent Hill: Origins "dog" creatures. It makes sense but it's such a poor execution of it, especially for how broken the gameplay is for beating or avoiding them. The *chicken creature* is plain morbid. A skinned creature eventually made much more sense through the lathery and flesh-like features given to Silent Hill 2 monsters, but for what capacities the PSOne had, having plucked poultry wandering to get beaten and shot wouldn't had been... elegant. Finally, the *stalkers* were such a great concept that fit the Silent Hill 1 story, about how something that starts fearful and vulnerable, as its larvar form is, it can eventually become aggresive and perverted in its adult form. That simple statement reinforces how disguted Alessa is with grown ups _and_ growing up. The ritual actually forces her into womanhood by making her a 7-year-old mother of a demon that cannot be birthed FOR YEARS. So of course she doesn't want to become an adult! Of course her tutors are responible for this burden that is ripping her to shreads! Replacing some of the monsters with these models in the retail version would be awesome. Especially that beta grey child and beta larval stalker would be so damn creepy in the game. They propably cut them out because they simply were too much.
They probably had a plot idea for Henry to have a fear of animals or something. Then they would be appropriately placed in a zoo/aquarium. So there may be an unused level.

I have a theory that, since the “manta ray” has it’s TIM textures located in the Test folder, it might be a test monster used during development. Probably not true but it makes me wonder what else is hidden in the files of other horror games
The manta ray looks like something they thought up before they went harder and darker with the aesthetic of the game. Like it still looks like a child’s imagination has spawn a monstrous real world animal, but it doesn’t look anything like a silent hill monster. Makes me wonder what they were thinking up earlier on. The frog(?) looks much more in line with silent hill but isn’t there yet. I imagine they took the manta ray and played around with it. Perhaps at this point they were experimenting with how abstract and grotesque they wanted their monsters to be, which maybe pushed them toward the designs we all know and cry in terror at today. Maybe. In any case I think the frog would have been an awesome addition to spice up the sewer. Monkey is a much cooler dog than what we got in the end. I wonder why we they scaled it back in the end to just a doggy boy. Also funny that we got the rompers in the end, which are VERY monkey like. Ostrich is cool. Not too much to say here. It looks pretty freaking big, which is something I feel the first game lacks in for standard enemies, when later games have some pretty oppressive non-boss monsters. Snake reminds me of the feeders in the hospital(?). Maybe inspired that random puzzle monster. Chicken looks very… foetal? Very gross. Doesn’t look quite right though. Think it would need a bit more abstraction to make it work. Maybe less obviously avian to add some yummy obscurity horror to its design. Love the obviously pregnant belly though.
not sure where they would show up. the docks? i like how the final monsters are tied to alyssa's impression of her world before her suffering theme more than just random creatures. they were already pushing it with the Flying Screams and worm boss...
@@matty6878 the worm was kinda weird but the air screamer came from the book alessa liked, The lost world, in the symbolism department, i guess it makes more sense, more than the worm atleast.
Seeing all of these unused creatures does make me wonder if the whole idea of The Cult was added in far later into development during Silent Hill 1's cycle? I mean its easy for us now to see why these monsters weren't used, but I am very curious given the more overt focus on childhood fears rather than occultic imagery as seen in the latter parts of the first game that the focus would've been more on Pamela (Alessa's beta name) unleashing her fears upon the town more so than the very Stephen King esque cult symbolism we see of the games now. I only wish we got a little more insight from the staff. Although since Masahiro Ito can't seem to remember, maybe Keichiro Toyama would help? I dunno.
The manta ray just looks cute, not scary! 😅 But "monkey"... that should definitely have replaced the "dog" enemies in the final game!!! So much more creative than a skinned dog... Also, this track "Black Mirror Fear" (I think?) is amazing! Akira is a gem 💎
Great video! So interesting seeing what was cut or left out intentionally for other reasons. I would love to see a mod put the original children skins back. It would be perfect for the alternative nightmare school, making it much more disturbing than what we have currently, and what it was intended to be. Original school could keep the grey children without wielding the knife, and the knife attack animation being removed for just grab attack. This would fit really well aesthetically with the school being grey and dark just like the monster itself. Same with the shadow squeaker. Alternate school changes Grey Child with original Stalker skin, and again, aesthetically blending in much better with the new red rusted environment, and now much more threatening by wielding a knife and having the attack animation back, differentiating visually and physically between the two versions. Also have the shadow squeaker be revealed somewhere in the alternate school using it's original Larval Stalker skin, revealing to the player what the hideous truth behind the shadows were.
Yeah silent hills also a big inspiration for me too, but the concept art and unused creatures for half-life, half-life 2, and both left4dead games are big inspirations too.
for that precise reason - you always fear what you don’t understand, and these 32bit monsters leave a lot more to your imagination than any RTX 4K monstrosity!
If creating a fan game or a completely original one in the style of Silent Hill 1 and 2, I would add the Deformed Toad, the Headless Ostrich, The Snake that seems to remind a male reproductive organ (or as I affectionately call it, the Penis Snake) and Malnourished Chicken. Because seriously, they are just terrifying and so good... they seem absurd but at the same time they are so great because Silent Hill turns them from ordinary creatures to monsters in seconds, distorting and deforming them to the point of the unspeakable. Even the cutest and most tender or the most harmless and insignificant becomes aberrant in an area controlled by an evil and rotten God.
I have the feeling , that they wanted to add a zoo part to the game and already got the enemies for it , but they hadn't enough time to finish the zoo.
man I love vids like this. for most people, those are just unused assets. but for me, they tell a story of what was abandoned during development, thanks for sharing!
If SH1 is ever remade like RE2 and RE3, the dev team should include all of these monsters in somehow. And also include the option for all characters and monsters to use classic polygon skins.
I wonder if these were cut because there was too much of an animal theme to them, and that's not really where the enemy design for the series ended up in the long run.
My God! The Chicken one give me creeps. Anyone tried to show these to Masahiro Ito, through his twitter account, and ask for some information? Like the reasons for removal a inspiration for the desings?
The face of beta Grey Child somehow reminds me those masks from "The Wall" movie... I don't know if this was intentional, but knowing Silent Hill creative team's penchant for referencing other works of art, it could be.
@@metitfour131 I don't find it's creepy, it actually sounds pretty relaxed and comfy to me. But I agree on SH1 part, it does give that results screen vibe from the first game.

Replacing some of the monsters with these models in the retail version would be awesome. Especially that beta grey child and beta larval stalker would be so damn creepy in the game. They propably cut them out because they simply were too much.
Chicken still availible in the game.
Wow you keep finding beta assets and so much information thank you for this channel
I’ve been waiting for years for someone to finally crack these games. Good job!
They probably had a plot idea for Henry to have a fear of animals or something. Then they would be appropriately placed in a zoo/aquarium. So there may be an unused level.
I think it was Alessa that had a fear of animals. Except for Butterflies of course. 🦋
@Shawn Burke Right on! Thanks for that tidbit. 😊 I didn't know about The Lost World part! 👍❤
@Shawn Burke Oh awesome, you're a sweetheart! No doubt, I'll have to check these guys out! Hahahaha, I'll make sure to keep an open mind with them! 😉 Thanks once again for the info, I love anything on the Silent Hill series, it's one of my faves, so I'm happy to scope out anything dedicated to it. Cheers! 😁
@Shawn Burke And you, good sir, are quite the helpful gentleman, I shall see you in the next! 😊
@Shawn Burke Hey there! No worries! I'm cool with it 😁👌I'll give it a whirl and check it all out, thanks for the recommends! 😍
That manta ray is a little disturbing to me due to how normal it is in contrast to the rest of the game.
I have a theory that, since the “manta ray” has it’s TIM textures located in the Test folder, it might be a test monster used during development. Probably not true but it makes me wonder what else is hidden in the files of other horror games
el = electric ray
That ostrich look like something that would be in a crash game
the manta ray look so cool and creepy, wonder why they didn't used it
Dat moves tho...
I saw you on another video lol
not sure where they would show up. the docks? i like how the final monsters are tied to alyssa's impression of her world before her suffering theme more than just random creatures. they were already pushing it with the Flying Screams and worm boss...
@@matty6878 the worm was kinda weird but the air screamer came from the book alessa liked, The lost world, in the symbolism department, i guess it makes more sense, more than the worm atleast.
@@ags8507 it's the larvae of the moth/butterfly monster. Could also be a reference to Alice in Wonderland...
The chicken monster 12:02 was from alone in the dark maybe this why unused
Aha! NOW I KNOW THE CHILDREN BETA CODE I GONNA CHANGE IT.
CLD1 to CLD3,
Also Giromancy, Nice Music!
I dunno.
Need to ask Keiichiro Toyama toom.
Im making a monster character for my portfolio and Seilent Hill's monster designs are my biggest inspiration!
Yeah silent hills also a big inspiration for me too, but the concept art and unused creatures for half-life, half-life 2, and both left4dead games are big inspirations too.
Es increible que despues de tantos años sigan sacando secretos de este juego. Seria genial que hicieran un remake con keiichiro a la cabeza.
You can actually count the individual polygons on these models. And yet this is still one of the scariest games ever made.
for that precise reason - you always fear what you don’t understand, and these 32bit monsters leave a lot more to your imagination than any RTX 4K monstrosity!
Please don't stop making videos, i love your channel!
I have the feeling , that they wanted to add a zoo part to the game and already got the enemies for it , but they hadn't enough time to finish the zoo.
Love the music had to come back and hear it again
If you find out what it is can you tell?
th-cam.com/video/Mb0ofVeiebk/w-d-xo.html
@@zenx3855 "Casual Background" from Silent Hill 3.
Also that "ostrich" looks like one of the Bottom monsters from Silent Hill 4. 8:14
5:50 that thing would be epic to have in the streets after the hospital along with those ape creatures
The "chicken" looks like if the baby from Eraserhead was all grown up. Absolute nightmare fuel.
Frog is actually horrifying
I legitimately fall asleep to this music. Thank you.
man I love vids like this. for most people, those are just unused assets. but for me, they tell a story of what was abandoned during development, thanks for sharing!
This blows my fucking mind.. Jesus I'm overwhelmed
I really do enjoy this glad you posted this such an amazing game in my opinion 😁
can you imagine? its 1997 and some dude is rendering these animations on a 4-8mb video card at konami
Awesome animations.
the frog looks terrifying.
Nice find, SH is dear to my heart and seeing this new stuff is just amazing.
I love how the butterfly look like it's vibin' to the track.
awesome video, clean editing and relaxing SH music.
If SH1 is ever remade like RE2 and RE3, the dev team should include all of these monsters in somehow.
And also include the option for all characters and monsters to use classic polygon skins.
Knowing Konami, they’ve probably lost any and all record of these things existing because they don’t give two shits.
chicken looks straight out of eraserhead
Feeling pity for these creatures. Harry Mason is a monster! :)
12:05 - Reminds me monster from Godzilla Creepypasta :3
Rodan
I wonder if these were cut because there was too much of an animal theme to them, and that's not really where the enemy design for the series ended up in the long run.
manta ray looks so cute
Ah, thank you for this! Nice collection. Keep it up ;) btw your level viewers are awesome! I hope there will be more
04:45 when your mom doesn't buy you a happy meal
I'm speechless. Man, you are the most productive SH fan I know) Good job as always.
The ideas for some of the bug-like monsters ended up being used in Siren.
Really?
My God! The Chicken one give me creeps.
Anyone tried to show these to Masahiro Ito, through his twitter account, and ask for some information? Like the reasons for removal a inspiration for the desings?
Someone asked Masahiro Ito about those monsters on twitter and He said: "I certainly made some of these. However I have no comment."
Thank you for the answer!
That's kinda of lame, I was expecting a bit more.
HAHAHAHAHA
Maybe there was gonna be a weird zoo section in silent hill? That kinda explains all the animals sorta.
jesuscrist dude !!!! you are very good 10:27 that monster is very similar to the albinoid in RE Code Veronica X
The beta Larval Stalker is creepy as fuck.
the manta ray is actually adorable
The face of beta Grey Child somehow reminds me those masks from "The Wall" movie... I don't know if this was intentional, but knowing Silent Hill creative team's penchant for referencing other works of art, it could be.
¿Alguien mas esta obsesionado con el primer silent hill, o solo soy yo?
somos muchos
Te entiendo mi hermano
Some of these prototypes seem like inspirations for enemies in the later entries...At least, the 3 proper sequels that followed.
Of all the things I thought I'd see today, none of them was a big-balled headless Ostrich.
This is wicked excellent work. More, please.
Very well made
The last two look foetal. Makes a lot of sense.
those chicken animations are absolutely terrifying 🤣🤣
Nice but what is this music?!?! Don't remember it from the game but it's straight FIRE!!!!
Music's from SILENT HILL 3. This is the unused track that can be found in sd.afs file.
Thanks man!!
@@Vsevolod3788 That's funny, it gives off a very SH1 feel. Creepy.
@@metitfour131 I don't find it's creepy, it actually sounds pretty relaxed and comfy to me. But I agree on SH1 part, it does give that results screen vibe from the first game.
The monkey looks like a Chupacabra.
Frog fucking awesome
I feel like the Frog was replaced by the Romper in the final game
Great work.
That larval stalker looks terrifying!
great work
THe Larval Stalker and The Grey Child are easily the most disturbing.
