Color is probably the least important thing for me. Related to your previous video about scoring wines, I would rarely take away points because of the color unless it looked rancid or dull/lifeless. However, color is a part of the overall pleasure of wine. Similarly, the French evaluate food based on presentation-its sort of food/wine foreplay. It stimulates a different sense and builds up anticipation, but at as you say, it's not always the best indicator of how it tastes and smells, which are the most important. Similarly in the US, a lot of GMO fruit is meant to look better on the shelf in the supermarket, but they don't taste as good as fruit in Europe, which may not look as perfect. It's the same with wine.
Great video, love Chianti! I keep trying other wines but I keep coming back to sangiovase and nebbiolo great wines.Getting away from Italy try the Australian Torbreck Barossa 2016 Grenache, Shiraz, Mourvedre a fantastic wine for $28 here in Canada probably $20 in the U.S. Keep posting these great videos.
Like colour but it is far down on the list and not a decisive criteria in any way for me. Not surprisingly I am much more focused on the nose, immediate taste and aftertaste (longevity).
just got this wine at Walmart ruffino riserva ducale chianti classico 2017 $ 22.56 tax included not bad for that price they must of forgot about it in the back of the wearhouse 5 years old wine for $22
Great episode. Thanks for the tips
Thank you for tuning in
Great episode! Good introduction. New names for me. My favorites? Ricasoli, San Felice, Fonterutoli, Fontadi!
All fantastic choices by you. I must admit to be a lover of almost ALL Chianti Classico.
You should try Castello di Ama, which is probably the best value/quality Chianti you can buy. Absolutely delicious.
I like seeing the color of the Monterontodo. Great video. Thank you
Thank you. It’s a stellar wine, esp for the price!
Superb videoes! Makes me wanna open a Chianti and do a review. Keep it up buddy!
You should! Which one will you open?
@@drmatthewhorkey hmmm.. castell'in villa. 😊 But today, it will be a south african pinot, which would be a brand new experience 😁
ohhhh there is some great PN down there in SA
Yeah.. and this one was crazy good. Very comparable with a burgundy PN. It was a PN 2020 from Elgin Vintners. I'll buy more for storage 🍷😀
Nice video!
Thank you!
I will be there in the summer, thank you for the tips! Salute!
Enjoy!! It’s a great place to be
Going through your old videos today. I must say, my favorite sangiovese is Corzano's baseline chianti. It's so bright and lively.
Ahhhhh thanks! I haven’t tasted that yet.

I totally agree!!! You can’t taste color
Agree also about the fruit tasting better in Europe...

Thanks! I love Sangio, Nebbio, and that Torbreck
Where to buy chianti classico of Quallety in Britain ?
Use wine-searcher
@@drmatthewhorkeynever heard of it
These wines have such a big mark up here in Taiwan
Yes, in all of Asia the markups are high unfortunately. What are the prices over there?? I love Tapei btw
Thank you!
Thank you!
Castell'In Villa, Querciabella, Felsina & Le Miccine. And then there's Fontodi, Badia a Coltibuono...:-)))
All GREAT producers too!

I agree, far down the list for me. Some of my fav grapes like Nebbiolo, Sangiovese, and Grenache lack color but they’re still delicious
Chianti Classico is not a region. It reffers to 80% sangiovese
It is it's own DOCG

Ahhhh that’s a nice price!
Check out Tenuta Di Carleone Chianti Classico 🤤
Ohhh nice, I haven't tasted any wines from them yet. thanks
