In this video, I break down crucial information you need to know about femoral neck stress fractures. I break down the unique anatomy of the femur, what happens to our femoral neck when we run, and what runners report when they develop this injury.

Thanks for the video. Can you explain anatomically why femoral neck presents with a shortened leg and lateral hip rotation?

Just got an MRI back that said hip stress fracture. The exact thing you close out the video with (increase in pain when taking weight off the injured leg) is what I had been describing to literally everyone (trainer, PT, doctor) and no one even mentioned hip stress fracture. Thank you!

wow for months i’ve been dealing with this hip pain and i finally understand that it’s not a ligament or muscle but bone problem

Will you refer patients for imaging right away when you suspect stress fracture at this site?

Yes! And often have them go non weight bearing until the imaging is interpreted.

How would you even manage it conservatively?

Normally there’s 4-6 weeks of non weight bearing and then a slow progression of weight bearing activities.

What about if you’ve been NWB for 12 weeks and MRI shows little change on fracture line 🤷🏻‍♀️ 😬

      If it’s medial side 75%…

@@kristinaennis3348 the surgeons I’ve worked with normally use 50% as the cut off for surgery.
