      After the bankruptcy their Naming rights (the only thing left that's worth anything) will be sold to cover costs. IF they're really lucky, a ture Red, White, and Blue American Company like Mcdonalds or Pizza Hut, looking to diversify into something they know completely nothing about, will snap them up for a couple of million each (maybe even as a job lot). My guess is that GM will die much sooner than Ford.

    Great tragedy to see this brand disappear. Hit their pinnacle in the late 1950's and early 60's with the E-Type being one of the most iconic cars ever built. I bought a Mk-II (1966 model) in 1982, and while lovely to drive, it spent most of its time pissing oil and in the workshop. In recent years, the company has bled money faster than its cars bled oil... Very sad - but inevitable.

    • @KaiHenningsen
      @KaiHenningsen 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes. In the late 80s/early 90s I had an acquaintance who not only had a Jaguar but was (for a while) in their - I forget the official term - user council. From what he said, it seemed to be a universal complaint that the car spent far too much time in the workshop. That was the car for my first and only faster-than-200-km/h Autobahn trip ... which converted late evening very thin traffic into something more like city rush hour. Thanks but no thanks. (Also, the car was too low for larger people - I couldn't find a way to sit without brushing the root with my hair. That's certainly not what *I* expected from a luxury car.)

      In the 1950s a family in our district bought a Jaguar for many times the price of the average family cars the rest of us were driving. Within a few months it was off the road with a warped cylinder head, unlike the average family cars which just kept on running.

    Four years ago I nearly bought one but decided that the model S had a better spec for the price. The M3 then appeared and that is what I bought and love to drive today. However, It's still, IMO, the best looking SUV out there but I agree with you that it has been left to compete with cars that are cheaper and with much better technology. What a shame they let it fall behind.

    The technology in the i-Pace isn't that bad, but if I wanted to spend 100k EUR on an EV, I would much rather grab an Audi eTron or even a Tesla X. Jaguar tried premium pricing but failed to deliver a premium car. Looking around on their website, there seem to be (in Germany) 80+ cars available for direct purchase, some discounted almost 25% below MSRP. I can't imagine that the dealerships are making any profit of those anymore, they just want them off their lots. If Jaguar wants to keep up that price range, they'll need to seriously invest into R&D, if they don't get bought up soon.

    • @_PatrickO

    I had a full day test drive of an iPace, it is beautiful to look at, very nice to drive, very fast, very comfortable,but very heavy on the electrons. You would be lucky to get a range of 200 miles.
    Only the most expensive of the range had heated front seats, and no heated seats was not going to work for me.
    I bought an EV6 instead, which has taken some design cues from the iPace,is every bit as good to drive, and packed with features, and way cheaper.
    Jaguar of course has a mixed reputation for reliability,perhaps unfairly, and not sure if this applies to the iPace, the Kia with a 7 year warranty is a great comfort.
    Thanks for the video.

    Being a Jaguar fan we took an IPace on test for a weekend, the build quality was good although the only way to release the charging cable was by opening the bonnet and pulling the emergency release string. What let it down was the poor range, in summer, mixed driving we got just over 200 miles, bearing in mind we’ve been driving EVs since 2014 so I know how to nurse a battery. It’s obviously got some poor tolerances on parts manufacture or something wrong with the huge battery pack as we thought it would hit at least 270mi but it seemed to be doing just over 2 mi to the kW, pretty disappointing. We do own a RR PHEV and that gives a better KW/M range from its puny 30 mi battery pack. Then again the RR is built in England and the IPace by a contractor in Austria, putting a Jag badge on the front and back doesn’t make it one. So yes please Geely buy the Marque and make it great again as right now it’s just an expensive embarrassment….with old software and a crappy range

    Jaguar is a dead brand driving. The I-Pace was only built in tiny volumes by an outside contractor, Magna Steyr of Austria. It does not help sales that Jaguar dealers have shrunk to being very very few and far between. My local Jaguar dealer is nearly 100 miles away and that’s in the UK. The biggest false promise from JLR is their perennial promise to increase quality and reliability of their products only to come bottom of the list of all car brands from one decade to the next. There’s a nasty smell around JLR generally, not just Jaguar but Land Rover too are not going all in on EVs which is a huge mistake. When the iPace was launched it got great reviews but I didn’t think they were serious about EVs when I learned the manufacturing is outsourced to Steyr in Austria. Nothing wrong with that, quality is normally good but not making it in the main UK plant tells you everything you need to know about their sales ambitions for the car. The brand equity is fading fast.

Not designed to be welcoming, when I drive past my overwhelming impression it is designed to repel all boarders I have never seen them engage in community events as part of outreach marketing. Quite how out of sight out of mind is designed to sell cars I can't imagine. Time for a new marketing approach ?

    Jaguar had huge brand cachet in the 50’s and 60’s, due to its racing successes and technological advances - first disc brakes, double overhead cams, lots of power for the time etc, and very cool styling. Had a wide fan base.
    So for many years folks wanted a Jaguar - this lasted a long while, but it’s gone now. Poor quality construction, poor reliabilty, and poor and expensive maintainabilty, resulted in reality slowly eroding the cachet of the 1950’s. I recall having a large V12 Jag. sedan - left it idling to warm it up in the morning - I then had trouble surviving the surrounding massive cloud of exhaust just to get to the darn thing. Not a good feeling. Cachet and brand loyalty can easily evaporate or even flip to negative..

I don't want to say that bigger wheels "make" a car, but this thing in mid to low-spec trim does not have anywhere the same presence as the top spec versions. From my recollection, these lower spec units are still $70K+ USD, which seems HIGH.

    when i was growing up, Jaguar was a luxury brand to aim for. It went downhill because of lack of investment. After ford took over, it lost its sparkle. Now, its competing with other brands that have surpased it in many ways. The brand should be retired, just like a lot of others, to a museum. I mean, what does owning a jaguar really mean anymore? Hand made craftsmanship and wooden panelling? I mean, that quaint 18th century idea of luxury has long long gone.

    Jaguar (and Land Rover) biggest problem is the quality of their vehicles. A brand can't be last in almost every survey and hope to survive too long. It's not magic, they need to improve the quality of the components, increase the efficiency, drop the battery size a bit and sell it for the same money as a Tesla M3 SR.

    • @sandman0123
      @sandman0123 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I can speak about Land Rover, since I was a longer term owner of a couple LRs. It is true that over the years they had their ups and downs in quality but if you researched well what you bought (year, model), you could do well. Unfortunately, they are on a downtrend again, so I won't be upgrading my current one *to another LR*. I could speak about the good and the bad but by far LR's biggest problem is the abysmal dealer network, both in sales and in servicing. I mean, they are hopeless. The stories I could tell! To cut it short, I used to have an original series turbo diesel Freelander (not the troubled early petrol model) and after only a couple of years, the problems have started, one after the other. Out of warranty, I had the idea of trying an idependent LR mechanic instead of the dealer and he just shook his head how poorly the servicing had been done. After switching to him, I was paying less for servicing and my problems went away. Only when the car was already 10 years old, I had a relatively straightforward problem with the engine which was promptly fixed. Well, after 10 years, that can happen.
      I never got LR marketing, anyway. They had this incredible reputation for ruggedness to start with but later, they increasingly went for the luxury end of the market and squandered the established reputation. I suppose they saw more money in rich urban folks taking kids to school while dreaming of one day venturing out into the countryside. I mean, they already had Range Rover for that, so why?!
      Now, they just can't figure out what to do with EV so they are retreating into what they think they know. The Tata ownership hasn't done anything for them and the hot potato game of selling the brand to any new taker may continue or they will keep and totally water down the brand(s).
      The problem with Jag is that there were whole generations that grew up with the dream of one day buying one. Jaguar hasn't done much to really appeal to newer generations (how many kids these days would have a picture of a Jaguar on the wall of their bedroom? about none...) while gradually losing ground with the older ones. A few really uninspiring and/or unreliable models really didn't help. Most remaining Jaguar enthusiasts are probaly more likely to buy a classic Jag, not a new one.
      The writing is on the wall...

    The problem is that I-pace does not rust fast..but the Teslas out of China are delivered new already rusted like the cheapest cars of 15 to 20 years ago, and this constant material loss with metal chipping off improves gradually the power to weight ratio of those heavy coal cars…We lifted my US built 2005 BMW and it is absolutely spotless, this junk hasn’t lost half a gram yet, so I plan to enrol it on a tighter weight watcher programming if it does not lose weight and value as fast as a TM3 in futur..hell of a challenge. Meanwhile my Golf R keyless did not work parked next to a Renault Zoe, on the other side it did work perfectly so why are E vehicles not EMC compatible with the rest..

Truth is they could tune the electronics to some extent if they did over the air updates but of course they didn't do that. If they were smart, which obviously they're not, they would look at the power usage in the car and utilize that information to replace the electronics that's consuming the most electricity.

Tata probably look for a deal but I still think Chinese ev manufacture will get it for practically nothing a bit like mg here in the UK. Still has the iconic name and great history jaguar but will excel with a Chinese backer. The plus points is jaguar owners are crying out for more evs. Also ready made dealer network a bit like volvo.
