- I definitely recommend checking her older music, “crybaby” is her character and kinda tells a story through each album. Portals is her new album coming the 31st of this month to which “Death” was the first song released. To show “Crybaby” not really died but much evolved in character shown in the vid.

to broadly sum up the music video, her new album “PORTALS” (releasing in a week) has a very different sound and aesthetic to her old stuff. her old music was more bubblegum pop, electropop, alt etcc but this new album will be more rock and punk themed. the music video is her old self dying but she’s being rebirthed in a new form that isn’t human which symbolises her growth in music and sound, like in the scene of her body on the floor while the “new” her is stood on top of her
Okay so since u want more of Melanie Martinez, I would tell u to proceed to listen to her newest album titled PORTALS since u started with DEATH, and here is some info about her. Melanie Martinez is a 27 yr old American singer-song writer who auditioned for The Voice of America and ended up in 3rd place, she is Latina and in music she is known for exceptional creative mind and her creative mind in setting amazing visuals and Imagry in pop music, her debut album crybaby was released in 2015 and had hit songs, like soap, crybaby, pacify her, play date. Crybaby is Melanie's sort of like an alter ego and character to which serves as a way for Melanie to communicate her feelings and make music that dives into deep topics such as SA, ED, bullying, body shaming, insecurities, troubled family dynamics etc etc. Her 2nd album which was released in 2019 was titled K-12 which talks about societal problems, double standards, government ctrl and the above subject matters, and Melanie uses the image of the school as the system that devides ppl and controls them. The album also has a movie accompanying it which truly shows Melanie's mind, and in this movie Melanie is playing her character. crybaby. The music video of DEATH shows that Melanie is retiring the character crybaby for good and shows us the re encarnacion of it with folkloric, mythological imagery from around the world, hence to why is is appearing like that In the music video. Crybaby is her old self (the girl with the half black and blonde hair ) and in this song she’s saying she’s killing her off, and starting something new, she has a movie called K-12 if you want to connect the dots a bit, it’s her album in a movie
I was looking for a blank slate reaction, like someone completely unfamiliar with her. This video was exactly what I was looking for. If you were to watch some of her old stuff I’d recommend mrs. Potato head and teachers pet. She used to write from the perspective of a character called crybaby, where she saw the world through a child’s eyes, the RIP crybaby on the grave in this video represents her moving on to a new era and leaving the mortal character of crybaby behind.

You should react to her older music, the album Crybaby, then K-12, then After School EP, and then PORTALS soon! The whole thing is a story and the character is named Crybaby. She has a film called K-12 which has all of the songs from her album K-12. She also has some singles, Fire Drill and Copy Cat.

i recommend listerning to her crybaby album with the videos and then go from there onto k-12. Her albums all follow the same charecter, crybaby; which represents her as a person. Her most recent realest being PORTALS follows crybaby after death, telling fans that crybaby isn’t dead, she’s just had a few changes

I recommend “orange juice” and “high school sweet hearts” of the k-12 album. “Test me” and “the bakery” off the after school EP and if you want to listen to so,e stuff off her first album literally just pick the most interesting title, you’ll probably love them all. Honorable mention is “copy cat” with Tierra whack. And if you’ve never listened to Tierra whack, check them out too 😂
You might know this from other comments but Melanie got an album on TH-cam for free called k-12. that move is also an album/musical and if you watch it, you’ll understand this music video a little more. She also has another album, her debut, named crybaby. Every song has a music video that tells a story. Also I’ll definitely be subbing

i loved ur reaction and the way u just enjoyed it was awesome. basically melanie has like i guess a lore? there's a character throughout all of her songs named crybaby, a fictional character that is like a child which kind of experiences adult things as u can see through her older songs like dollhouse, training wheels, milk and cookies, etc. I would recommend watching her movie as well it's so well made and beautiful. maybe start from the beginning though with crybaby. check out her mad hatter music video if u havent seen it yet tho, it shocks a lot of people and it's also so well made like most if not all of her songs.

Her old aesthetic was very child like and cute with a dark vibe in her music. However, all her music is directly linked to the character she created named Crybaby that’s who your watching. Crybaby is dead now showing how Melanie is transitioning as an artist and in the story into a new person. The character is still crybaby but doesn’t go by that name through experience they have evolved and are back from the dead. Through death they have experienced change and are now discovering this new world.
All of her songs tell a continuous story of a character named crybaby so it best to listen to everything in order and start with crybaby.

She's not even done this is just the beginning of her new album but you need to watch her k-12 .It's like a movie it's like an hour or something. You can split it half making more parts of videos. But her songs have changed if you go listen to k-12 you will see how better her songs is now than it was then but she is an amazing artist.
