I played so much of Quake 2 when it came out - I still remember how to access the hidden levels and secrets! I remember that this was one of the first games on the PC to have graphic card support and the coloured lighting was seriously impressive. iD again show the rest of the industry how to produce a remaster - lets hope other studios take note and do the same
I'm so happy that Quake II got a Nintendo Switch port. It means Bethesda hasn't abandoned the Switch like many people thought. And if the rumors of Virtuos remaking/remastering Oblivion are true, then we might get a Switch port of Oblivion by the end of next year.
The value on this one seems absolutely of the charts, Holy crap! You just kept going and going and going on the features included! You had me absolutely sold at split screen multiplayer and co-op.
Yup its sad that split screen vs and local vs are neglected in modern shooters. I don't care how popular a game is as soon as those servers go down your left with a glorified coaster or worse if you spend real world money for cosmetics its all for nothing. Battlefield 3 is pretty much worthless, enjoy your free to play fortnite and cod battle royal while you can kids cause once the servers go down thats it. Now where's my copy of Timesplitters 2😁

Extremely small detail, I know, but I’m very happy to see they added muzzle flare effects to several weapons. The original Quake 2 didn’t even bother and it bugged me to see a lighting effect go off but no visible flame on the muzzle.
3:08 - LOL, for some reason that moment cracked me up - it looks like that's a shadow glitch and the enemy's shadow is projecting through to the other side of that wall while they move on the other side, your aim up and down seems to say "what the..."
I think one of the biggest things is the new AI. There is totally new pathfinding and they introduced new attack types for enemies, even the chainguy dude. Al ot of it is stuff they planned on doing but couldn't because of time.
I could say that this game defines my childhood, since I played it a lot of times when I was a kid and for many years, and I also played multiplayer and the great amount of mods that were there. Giex, action quake, D-Day, vortex, insta-gib and more ❤
First time I saw Quake 2 with a 4MB VooDoo card and 3DFx support at my friends house. I was totally blown away by the lightning effects and the soft textures. This was the future! Also remembered Q2 got like 96% at the PC Gamer magazine. Good times 😀

Just bought it on eShop.....HELL YEAH! used to play this an absolute ton on PC & PS1 (using an ASCII Grip one handed controller and PS mouse) so had to get it! Got the first Quake on Switch....stellar, this one tops it! How the hell can you do all this for £7.99? It is amazing. It's good to see these older FPS games getting the love, and released for a new generation of system. Alien Trilogy, Aliens VS Predator, Unreal, and those kind of games next! Let's make it happen! I would LOVE a remaster of AVP Gold Edition or AVP2 for Switch, instabuy for me

The memories of Hijacking my schools IT room in 97 and taking my shitty Compaq PC and taking over my friends front room to play some multiplayer are Swirling around. SO I'm gonna grab this right now.
It’s good to see they added the ost. In re-releases of the game they cut the soundtrack due to licensing issues. My version on steam I needed to add it in later. Also $10!! Was watching thinking this is probably $20-30 and still seems worth it

I want a Quake 3 Arena remastered so bad. That game was my life when it was f2p in the browser as Quake Live. Ill get Quake 2 but only so they will remake Arena. Wouldn't make up for the disappointment that was Champions.
Note about the gyro: in handheld mode they use the systems gyro instead of the controllers, so motion aiming still works with 3rd party joycons that don't have gyro

Those of us old enough to have read PC Gamer/CGW etc. in the mid to late 90's will remember a time when games like these were benchmark titles and you needed an expensive "Multimedia PC" to eek out playable framerates with a solid 30-40 FPS being quite good.
I never really played Quake II besides a small sampling of the Xbox homebrew port, but hearing about all the features and enhancements this remaster has, plus splitscreen and crossplay multiplayer, plus it's only $10? Definitely buying this one. Probably on my Steam though, well, Steam Deck, since it's having a sale with all the other Quake titles for $20, which'll be great if the next games get remasters too.
Immediately purchased. The Quake port from last year was amazing, so I didn't even need to watch your performance review to know that we'd be in for a treat (though I did anyway!). Honestly I can't remember playing much of Quake 2 back in the day, but have no doubt (now I've played thorough Quake 1) that I'm going to play the hell out of this!

Great video, triple dipped. Switch for handheld, ps5 for 4k trophys and pc for multiplayer. All for 24 quid! For me 14 quid cos I have had it on pc a long long time.
If they can revive Quake 3 Arena with some good game servers then it'll take me back to my days in HS skipping lunch in the computer lab with some friends.

As I’ve gotten older I find myself less interested in graphics and more interested in things like design, artistic direction, animation, and smooth frame rates. I really think the industry can benefit by stepping away from the demand for realism and let creativity shine.

YYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYES!!! 😬 Gonna buy that one on both Steam and Switch, even though I still have all the original CDs sitting on my shelf (the Linux versions, no less 🤓). Its so much easier now with the rise of popularity of console/handheld hybrids thanks to the switch you no longer have to hog your tv or laptop to your buddies home.
I had no idea this was releasing so soon. The last time I played Quake was in high school. I always liked it slightly more than Unreal Tournament. Just when I thought I was making improvements on my backlog, I'm sucked back in.😆

I'll be picking up the physical copy from Limited Run. Sure I'll be paying 35 dollars and have to wait months for it to even ship, but I'm willing to do that for physical.

Yes for BLOOD, that game disturbed me more so than other fps games of the day, but I couldn’t stop playing it. A port is due.

Nintendo Switch is almost as old as the vanilla game, so it should run just fine.
