All Brooke has ever really wanted was someone to love her the way she loves others, yet her parents ignore her and don't care about her, she finally found a boy willing to love her back and now she will eventually have to face that she was betrayed not only by her BOYfriend, but also her BEST friend at the same time. Yes Brooke has made her own mistakes, but overall Brooke is probably one of the most wholesome characters out of all of them. She's just been through so much pain and betrayal from her family, from her friends, and from her lovers that she's just so broken. And even more, she puts on this brave face for everyone but you can see the pain in her eyes. The brilliance of Sophia Bush (the actress) is she captures all of that pain when she acts. You feel her emotions, and you feel her pain. And no matter how many times Brooke forgives Peyton and Lucas, this pain, this broken trust will always be there. Rewatch season 1 CLEARLY! It was and will always be Leyton.
I'm not making excuses for Lucas and Peyton, since it was definitly wrong - but Lucas had been in love with Keegan for a very long period of time before season 1. That wasn't gonna change after a poor incident at a party, where Peyton freaked - or because he started to get involved with up Brooke. And people claiming they should have stayed away from each other - well, how do you expect to people, where one of them is madly in love with the other, and the other has definite feelings - but one of them is dating the others best friend, to stay away from each other? It was doomed from the start. Peyton in this situation was no angel but you can't compare S1 to S3. In S3, Peyton was bleeding to death and thought she was going to die. It was "a just in case" kiss. When i was a teenager, i was team brooke. But now, i think Brooke is hypocritical. She slept with Nathan and didn't say to Peyton over years. She knew that Lucas and Peyton are meant to be, she was cruel at the first party with Peyton, Lucas, Haley and Nathan. And when Peyton said that she is in love with Lucas in season 3, she is cruel about the death of our two mothers.

Totally agree!! A lot of people in the comments are acting like Brooke is blameless when she isn’t! And even when Peyton left after Luke got super serious in that bedroom it only took her a few days to realize that she wanted to fully pursue Lucas and by then her best friend who knew they already had something intervened.
1) Nathan and Peyton were broken up, Brooke and Lucas were not, Brooke was so drunk she could barley even remember the thing with Nathan and her (said in the show) and Nathan and Brooke was a one time thing whereas Lucas and Peyton was an ongoing affair, so not the same thing.
2) Brooke was interested in the Lucas when Peyton was still with Nathan, Peyton had a chance to be with him and she rejected therefore he was free game.
3) obviously if you're best friend who had already gotten with your boyfriend tells you she's in love with him after pushing you to give him another chance promising you nothing like what she did with happen again, you're obviously gonna be upset, rightfully so.
4) Brooke said something in a fit of emotion and rage, was it fucked up? Yes but it doesn't define her character.
5) Lucas and Peyton make out when he with Lindsey while they are adults, clear as shit Brooke was never the issue.

Both Brooke & Peyton had their flaws in this love triangle with Lucas. Brooke tried getting with Lucas & kept flirting with him even though he wasn’t interested. Plus Brooke could see the chemistry between Lucas & Peyton when they kissed at the party. Lucas always wanted to be with Peyton and Brooke was a rebound for Lucas because Peyton was emotionally unavailable. Brooke tried to push Peyton & Nathan to get back together just so she could have Lucas all to herself, even though Peyton & Nathan were an on & off unhealthy relationship. I loved how Brooke told Peyton she would break it off with Lucas if it bothered her, so when it comes down to it she is a good friend. But Peyton should’ve been honest with Brooke about how she truly felt about Lucas. Plus she broke girl code when she snuck around with Lucas behind Brooke’s back.

I'm not making excuses for Lucas and Peyton, since it was definitly wrong - but Lucas had been in love with Keegan for a very long period of time before season 1. That wasn't gonna change after a poor incident at a party, where Peyton freaked - or because he started to get involved with up Brooke. And people claiming they should have stayed away from each other - well, how do you expect to people, where one of them is madly in love with the other, and the other has definite feelings - but one of them is dating the others best friend, to stay away from each other? It was doomed from the start. The moral of the story isn't that Lucas and Peyton shouldn't have done it (it was wrong, there is no question about that) - the moral is that Lucas should have never started a relationship with Brooke.
