Hey Alphonso, Just wanted to say you are an amazing artist, and incredible teacher. Thanks for all you have taught me and the rest of the internet, you truly deserve praise. Thanks for being such a nice individual and sharing helpful videos, answering questions and making strangers feel gratified and thankful. It is clear the effort and devotion you put into these videos and words cannot describe how much I appreciate them, (although I'm trying :D). Thanks man. I hope you go far.
Gecko Specks Thanks so much, and thanks for taking the time to share that. I try to find the time to respond to as many comments as I can. Trust me, teaching HS Chemistry fulltime and teaching art parttime at a community college can get hectic, but It really means alot considering no one had to take the time to respond or post anything, but you all do. So thanks :-)
Alphonso Dunn! You have a face! And a lovely face it is. May we see you (more than just your hands that is) in future videos? As always, fascinating and inspiring.
@@alphonsodunn Thank you for the video, it's helpful. I'm just starting with Sakura pens and i love them. I need to experiment with different styles, so this helps. The eraser i never knew of!
6:53 - 005&02 for outlining, details, light shadows. 7:41 - 02,03,05 to deepen details & shadows. 8:28 - 005 & 02 again for detailing. 9:11 - 05,08,graphic #1 for deeper outlines & shadows. 9:52 - Graphic #2,3, & Brush for solid black shadows. 10:15 - Gelly Roll white for highlights and edges.
I don't think I've come across anyone who can draw as good as you. And your pen and ink work is amazing. Just got your book btw. Thank you for all you teach.
Wow, just drew the skull and I have never been so proud of something that involves drawing ;). Thanks a lot for this video and keep up the good work! :D
I have been doing sugar skull drawings, I know a bit different but helps me to get shapes down. I think it is great to see your face know who is talking and teaching. You have so much info and talent and am so happy I found you. Thank you my friend for the lessons.
Wow... it's clear to me that some people just have an amazing natural talent - not that they didn't work at it, but it is just inside some people. Alphonso is one of those people. Nice, awesome work!
Brilliant artwork and your choice of music had me watching from behind the chair! Seriously, that 10 minutes of my life has flown past, I was transfixed. Well done Alphonso.
You have a really kind face :) Also your drawing is amazing! It looks like and illustration from an ancient book you would find in a wizard's library or something :P
Today I just received my Pigma Drawing Pens. Excited to use them and watching your tutorial was amazing. looking forward to seeing your other tutorials. thank you for creating this video for newbees lol
You're truly an inspiration my man! I've been drawing all my life and it wasn't until a year ago I discovered I loved drawing with pen, I'm 18 now and hope to one day be as good as you! you're just so great! thank you for making these truly inspiring videos, me and everyone else really appreciate them. thank you for this tutorial, I'm gonna be entering a competition called vase in a couple months and these are really helping! again thank you for everything you do!
I have an electric eraser hanging off my drafting table along with four different kinds of erasers, including one for vellum. Then someone changes their mind and you have to scrape it off the back and redraw it on the front. You do great work. Thanks for allowing us to watch and join!!!!!
Thank you SO much for sharing your knowledge and talents!!! I find so many artists are very secretive and too competitive and never like to help or answer basic questions, so I really appreciate you taking time to do these tutorials for those looking to begin or hone their already existing skills. :)
I love your tutorials and will use them in my classroom. I teach Graphic Arts and it is always great to find talented artist to help my artistic students with composition, value and shading in their illustrations. Great job on all your videos.
I use the brush one almost exclusively, for inking comic book-esque scetches and panels.Tbh, i am the type of person that likes the "all in one" solutions, i hate juggling between tons of different tools to get the job done. And brush one is the most versatile one (i used just a regular brush and a bottle of ink, but i switched to Sakura brush pens because it's less upkeep, and instead of replacing ink and brushes when needed separately i can just get 1 item that covers for both, plus ink is really high quallity in these).
Incredible! You sir are an amazing artist. I may have to try out an electric eraser. I see how it could be handy. One thing I have started to do is use a one inch paintbrush for brushing away my eraser scraps. I find that it keeps me from smudging anything with my hands.
Welp, I had zero idea most of this was possible, because I am timid of all but graphite. This makes me glad I watched this before my next trip to the art store. I have subscribed because this one video has been so massively helpful, I must go see what else is on the channel. Thank you for such a great demo! I suddenly get why I need an electric eraser.
so enjoyable therapeutic and relaxing to watch how the drawing builds up. uh! thanks man! tomorrow i go by myself some quality ink pens. this is a beginning of a new era :D
I had to draw a realistic skill drawing for my art class in high school, it took a while, but it was fun, but we only used graphite no ink. We did do a realistic pen drawing of animals though, that took so much time and work. Your skull drawing came out very nice, good job, you also have a vey nice voice, it’s very calming.
I usually use cheap bic stick pens but after watching a lot of these videos I've noticed that I haven't seen even a single smear or glob of ink, I think you've sold me on some new pens!
Good intro. Don't be afraid of doing more in the future. You seem comfortable in front of the camera and it adds a lot to add a personal element in your videos. Just in case you were wondering.
hey man thanks for the tutorial its hard to find a real artist on youtube i put in fineliner tips and i get all these digital artists types im sure that has its place but not for a man trying to learn an honest skill with his hand so thanks for doing what you do
Dear Al, I use these Micro Markers all the time. I went into ROSS, and sure enough they had an identical set for $5 by Wonder and Weiss. They are just great, brush and all. ROSS!
On my way to Amazon to order me some more pens! That electric eraser is going to make my life easier as well. I've been using a Wite-Out pen to handle oopsies. It's been working, but definitely not something I like doing. One thing I've learned from your vids, Alphonso, is to stop dipping a nib into ink! No more ink on my fingers, or drops on my paper! :-D

Incredible! You sir are an amazing artist.
I may have to try out an electric eraser. I see how it could be handy.
One thing I have started to do is use a one inch paintbrush for brushing away my eraser scraps. I find that it keeps me from smudging anything with my hands.
+Marcus Mattingly I use that too sometimes :-)
Welp, I had zero idea most of this was possible, because I am timid of all but graphite. This makes me glad I watched this before my next trip to the art store.

Very nice work Mr. Dunn. I envy your steady hand. I can't shade like that anymore my hands shake far too much these days.
On my way to Amazon to order me some more pens! That electric eraser is going to make my life easier as well. I've been using a Wite-Out pen to handle oopsies. It's been working, but definitely not something I like doing.
