I'm an experienced player, but I like to review the basics sometimes and a couple of points in your video turned out to be useful for me. You're going to mostly help newer players, but you've already helped at least one fanatic who has many years and countless games under his belt. A minor correction on terminology, in case you haven't heard it yet. A hanging piece is one that's both loose and attacked, so that in your puzzle at 6:10 the bishop wasn't hanging until the queen moved to b2. There's a glossary of chess terms on Wikipedia if you're interested.
Very nice approach to tactics. I like the way you have an orderly approach to this rather than just spotting patterns from doing many puzzles. I think this video has helped me as much or maybe more than a highly rated tactics course that I completed. Great work!

In the faster time controls simple tactics are often missed by the average player. A systematic approach help make these type of opportunities more automatic. Well worth the watch . Especially for inexperienced players.
Below 1200 don't even worry about tactics. Just focus on placing your pieces on active squares and don't blunder them. Then wait for your opponent to crumble. This is how you will win games at that level, not by finding tactics. In the 1200-1500 level you can start to look for tactics, but playing strong positional chess is FAR more beneficial IMO. Tactics flow from good positional chess where all your pieces are pressuring your opponent.
I'm studying the Steps Method to. Can you tell me exactly where this concept is in the books? About the 3 targets (weak king, undefended pieces and mating square)?
It's these little things she misses that gives away her 800 elo rating. She should not be doing teaching videos on tactics or much of anything IMO. Just play chess and focus on improving. 800s are still eating the pieces.
