It isn't surprising that the crowd hearing someone express shame over excess of money wouldn't be sympathetic. I'm wealthy due to the miracle of compound interest and some fortunate investment decisions 2+ decades ago. I've embraced stealth wealth. I know for a fact that some friends and family relationships could not survive as they are if they knew the size of my portfolio. But who cares? They never will know unless I die first. Most of these money shame problems are intractable because deeply embedded in human nature, which is unchangeable. I won't discuss it with my kids until they're old enough to understand what I know about human nature, and give very strong consideration to adopting stealth wealth themselves.
What scares you most about mid life?
