It’s so true- I know that it’s a book about wild cats and death is fact of life, but come ON Erins!
I was just thinking about this the other day! Especially considering the Erins clearly have a hard enough time avoiding closely-related couples, it doesn't really make any sense to be killing off all these young background cats and decrease the genetic diversity even more.
They know their recycled trope protagonists aren't interesting so they kill off everyone else with a mildly unique character trait to force our attention back onto them.

Rainwhisker was absolutely my favourite backgroundcharacter. I just really liked his name idk... I'm not gonna lie, his death upsetted me more than Firestar's
Although i'm reading the last book of power of three, im still thinking about rainwhisker and i walk around upset as ####. Instead of making him an interesting character development he is killed by a stupid tree unfulfilled. I wish RainXSwallow was true...

I feel like I'm the only one who still remembered who Rainwhisker was, not because he was the cat that no one remembered but because to me he was always 'the cat with the pretty name'.

I saw this video in my recommends, and I actually remembered who Rainwhisker was.
Ah. This explains why Firestar was also killed by a tree. That’s clearly StarClan’s solution to cats that are too dangerous to be left alive.
Honestly it doesn't even bother me that it's a spoiler when you also explain why it's a dumb plot point at the same exact time.

It is true, any cat who admits they like to go out in the weather in too powerful. The tree was meant for Brackenfur as well as he wanted to go out as well. Rest in peace Rainwhisker, could’ve been a prophecy cat for his power.
I used to not tell the difference between Thornclaw and Brackenfur, and it didn't help that they had the exact same color when they were named in the allegiances. It helped me figure out they were brothers though

I actually liked Brackenfur in the original arcs, but his writing is just so inconsistent. He's mostly just... 'there' and he doesn't have a personality at all other than loyal.
