I'm not sure if every Calypso and Calypsonian's role is to question. Could one's function simply be to highlight, to bring awareness, to reflect? We had other Calypsonians this year questioning and challenging and we give thanks for them all. Why then does Helon have to serve that function that you are requesting ? I see Calypso it's a communal form and as a whole everyone will fill the varying functions needed to be served in society. I felt that Helon did his part.

Do you know there is a line in Francis' song that states: "we put the power in Ato's legs.." The comment is outdated and celebrates the few icons we have. It makes us celebrate the few successes fron a distant past. ..opening lines are about oil....If he was creative he would sing about natural gas....Helon is a clean singer with a good voice. He has talent but no artistic vision. When he won the Monarch Title with Change, he was abstract and elusive. He wasn't metaphorical but literal. Just like the recent song. His lyrics appear positive, uplifting and emotional. But analyze the lyrics, they are motivational without giving us the purpose.
