    It appears as thought I said "Flat Six" at one point. It is a flat 4, I just had a verbal flub!

    My older sister had a sky blue Beetle when I was young. I remember going to McDonald's and the glove box door had 2 stamped rings in it to hold drinks. Not like cup holders for driving, but like a little table eating when parked. Later when I learned how to drive a manual transmission it was in my family's 1979 VW bus.

    ah man this one hit close I just recently lost my '71 in an accident and I had to get rid of it, but I loved every second of this car so much. It really sold the whole drive a slow car fast for me. Nothing beats the smells and sounds of this car in my opinion.

    Very clean restomod and a great color. $600 for a nice driver-quality paint and interior is a great deal. These cars are simple but so many people buy them and then realize that old cars with 1930s technology require 1930s levels of maintenance. If you can turn a wrench these are relatively inexpensive and fun to keep going, just don't expect anything modern.
    I find it incredibly ironic that Hitler's car became the car of the hippies. A bit of a tangent: Ferdinand Porsche's design for the Beetle was suspiciously similar to Hans Ledwinka's design for a Tatra. Ledwinka and Hitler were acquaintances and Hitler knew of the Tatra prototype and thought it ideal for the Autobahn. Ledwinka sued Porsche and Hitler said "I'll take care of this" and invaded Czechoslovakia. Tatra was forced to stop production and their high-performance cars became known as Nazi killers because the Germans couldn't handle the performance. After the war Volkswagen settled with Tatra for one million Marks.
    Another random tangent: my karate instructor had a Beetle as his first car. One day he was sitting at a red light and had an uncontrollable urge to punch through the windshield. Weird guy. If he had a land yacht his fist would have never been able to reach the glass.

    I own a 1970 Beetle and I'm 6'3" so I understand the struggle of knees touching the dash ... that being said I'm replacing the floor pans and will be moving the seat rails back a few inches... I love my baby great little car fun cruiser

    This is an interesting modified bug. An alternator, but vacuum distributor, but 009 coil? Dual port with probably a 34 PICT carb, nice touch. The last year model I would buy a bug from, since I prefer pre 68. It does sound good.

    Right at the 6 minute mark, sounds like you were lugging the motor. Probably sounded fine for a water cooled car, but not good for air cooled. Great video as always. Re found your channel going through Paul Shinns Model A videos. Keep up the good work.

    No driveshaft, no radiator, no need for power steering or power brakes - no wonder they were so light.
    Interestingly, Beetles had 15” wheels, which were bigger than those of most American cars at the time (my ‘66 Bel Air had 13s).

    Love the bugs. Used to have a 71' and its a great city car. But because of the 4 spd gearbox they suck on the hwy. In stock form its just not a viable modern commuter car.

    I learned how to drive a stick on a 1973 vw super beetle. they are cool cuz they are different, but driving it gave me ptsd! plus the gas mileage is horrific it gets 20mpg on average and my 1994 ford f-150 4x45.0 5 speed gets about the same gas mileage! The rear seats are useless so idk how anyone could fit back there if it were a cab! plus everyone says hey are so reliable, BS!!! These things are so crudley built that they shake themselves out of time and will barley start plus the oils Frys everthing inside when it turns to lava!!

    • @JohnnyRoku
      @JohnnyRoku ปีที่แล้ว

      My beetle has been very reliable, I’ve been daily driving it for a few years with just regular maintenance needed. An oil temperature sensor is also a great idea especially for a daily driver. Albeit the engine has been rebuilt but if taken care of these cars are amazing machines.

    • @mromatic17
      @mromatic17 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JohnnyRoku i know they are stupid simple i daily a 94 f-150 for th same reason. People that buy these as classic cars will go 1 of 3 ways with it. they will sell it cuz they don’t wanna learn how to fix it, they will learn to fix it themselveses or they will fork over money to the mechanics. yeah you can dial them in but you still have to keep adjusting them every few weeks to make sure they run right!

    • @JohnnyRoku
      @JohnnyRoku ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@mromatic17 yup that’s definitely very true 👏🏼, they definitely require a lot more attention, thanks to that I’ve learned alot more responsibility and even learned to fix cars with absolutely zero mechanical experience and for that the beetle has a special place for me.

    Lots of Southern Californians since Mexico is only an 1-2 hour drive for most of SoCal especially those who know and still have family or ties to Mexico, go to Mexico (usually Tijuana) for shopping, medicines, and like this guy did a whole restoration for $600! Mexico is a poor country and you get those poor country prices that seem so cheap to us fortunate Americans
