Lets be real Moto Pilot. We both know anyone who owns an RSV4 is most definitely not complaining lol only people that don't own one and read forums like they're the word of god ahahaha.
Owned both rsv4 and zx10r same year model, have to say in performance both are similar, practicality zx10r win all day long, getting older moved to something more upright, if i have to choose another superbike again i will choose rsv4 any day, it will steal your heart the moment you start it on. RSV4 is a bike you buy to make your self happy, buy it for your heart not brain. The end
Agree with the higher cost of ownership and longer (on average) wait time for parts. For those local to SoCal, Armauri is a local mechanic who only works on Aprilias (mostly RSV4s) and is probably the best known and respected Aprilia mechanic in the country. (Follow his postings on the Aprilia forums and you’ll see why.) This would help mitigate some of that cost as his prices are very reasonable and his quality of work is second to none. As for parts, AF1Racing (google them) keep stock many (not all) Aprilia OEM/aftermarket parts. They’re like the unofficial/official flagship Aprilia dealership of the US. (At least that’s how I consider them.) Super knowledgeable and great help when purchasing and deciding on parts. I’m not affiliated with either one of them but as an RSV4 owner myself, also in SoCal, I find having and knowing of these references useful.
I bought my tuono factory and have never been so happy and although I am not capable to ride it to its full potential it doesn't bother me one bit . I love and respect it and I know it will bite if I don't respect it . I really don't believe you can thrash these bikes on the road , not enough decent road these days with crap surfaces full of potholes and shredded tarmac anyway , if you have to ride fast do it safe on a track
Just finally picked up my dream bike earlier this year, leftover 2020 factory edition and I absolutely love it. 2019/20 are my favorite years/styling. 5k miles so far and no issues other than a simple oil leak that was fixed by me re torquing the side cover and oil pan bolts.
I feel if you are going to ride, you need to know how to service them, and pre order consumables BEFORE you do it... Last month did 2, they also complained about the cost from a dealer. I helped them out.... read the service manual twice, you will do the majority of the work. "I don't know how" well......... you gonna learn.... $100-130 out the door. "I understand why it's costly now" mhmmm Feed a man for a day....... you get it.
lol, it definitely didn't sound like someone who would be riding a sport bike let alone an Aprilia. More like an owner of a Ram Rebel or something. I approve of this voice though!
I had the opportunity to ride this motorcycle for two months straight, and let me tell you the way this machine handles is amazing feels like a 600cc, I will get this motorcycle not because is the fastest or the best out there, just because the way it makes me feel, the way it handles and the sound is amazing
Valve adjustment is costly despite what brand you have. The difference is how long it takes and how often you have to do it. And that is due to how it is enginered not that it is italian. Honda V4s is as expensive to make a valves adjustment.
#1: put a quieter exhaust on with a Stage II or IIIZ Baffle #2: $800-$900 for a valve check/job is normal. #3: your service light is because it's CAN-BUS equipped. You probably went with LED Bulbs. You forgot to add either the Resistors or (if turn signal) an LED Turn Signal Relay direct replacement. #4: Wheelie monster. Well duh. No different than a 200hp ZX-10R, pre 203hp or 223hp Ducati, 199.7HP 2017+ GSX-R1000RR, 199hp S1000RR, and so on. Plus you changed your gearing to a -1/+1. My 2014 ZX-6R 636 ABS turned into a wheelie Monster after my -1/+2 change. You mentioned in an earlier video you like to leave your Wheelie Control on Level; it's least intrusive other than off. Any motorbike will wheelie @ 75%-100% throttle between gears 1z2 & even 3. #5: Even I can't even fit that huge BikeMaster tire kit under my large rear passenger seat. #6: I do agree it sits talk, but sit on an R1M, Cannibals, MV Augusta, KTM RC8. Ride Height is adjustable by either removing the shim from the shock or a full inch from swingarm position (even though that's more for handling, but at the track.) #7: This isn't a rebuttal, but the power is too much for most, but if you adjust all of your APRC settings higher, you should be better. And if you're going to buy an Aprilia, that means you know bikes & are more experienced than someone who isn't as experienced, who will buy the Japanese bikes. The 199HP S1000RR & new 199HP GSX-R1000RR & (acclaimed 200hp) ZX-10R is a handful also. Those inline-4 isn't as linear as the V-4, so once you hit that powerband, it will take you by surprise. The Gyro working with the rest of the electronics keep you on the bike much better than non 6-Axis Gyro Japanese bikes. I agree on the lack of rear passenger seating. Had more to say, but I'll leave it at that.
I can live with these little problems... she is so fine, that I got 2. One for street duty and one for track duty.... I was thinking to get an Tuono Factory for a more relax ride but, I want something little different so, a Ducati Hypermotard SP will come one day... I am a Honda guy and love those bikes, had them all ( CBR 600F 4, CBR 600RR 03, CBR 929RR 00, RC51 03, CBR 1000RR 12, CBR 600RR 07) But, since I saw that RSV4 I wanted it. No regrets and no problems on either one. 👍
Bikes like this attract everyones attention. ZX14R is a head turner, cops and non law enforcement alike. I still ride with stock exhausts on my ZX14R after 4 years and contemplate the upgrade to Brocks whenever I hear a 250 ride by sounding like a liter bike with straight pipe lol.
$900.00 for valve service is high, but not as bad as my Panigale which costs $1,500.00. I would definitely like to add the RSV4 to my collection it’s a great bike.
I thought you were gonna be hating on the bike lol. I own an ‘08 rsv1000r factory and I absolutely love it. My buddy had an rsv4 and it was a beast. It scared the shit out of me to ride that bike, but what a machine it is. Aprilia is simply the best. Cheers!
Hello MP, man I totally agree with you about these things you talk about in the video. But it’s totally worth it and I don’t regret it at all. I love my RSV4!
$900.....well, I just picked up an RSV4 1000 RF. I'm in Canada so that's $1124.53 with the exchange, or to put it into perspective, $775 cheaper than the first major service on my Ducati Multistrada Pikes Peak I just had done. SO the Aprilia is a bargain! Mine has the race tuning as well. Peace! D
One thing we can all agree on, no matter how inefficient, expensive, or unreasonable a bike may seem to others, it'll still be that one bike you love no matter what.
The only dealer in my state wants 1500 for valves but I'll just buy the parts to do it myself and watch Shaun Neilson's video on how to adjust it he's got a great detailed video on how to do it
Great video, I also have a bunch of quirks with my Tuono as well but it’s all worth it when you crack that throttle, nothing sounds quite like that V4!!! I’ve got 20k miles on my 2016 and still can’t wait to ride it every the weekend!
I had a valve adjustment done on my Honda VFR800 and it was 750. It is twice as much work to access all the valves on a V4 compared to an inline 4. My VFR is a 90 degree V4, the RSV4 is 60 degree so I can only imagine its much tighter under the tank.
No doubt, it's a great looking & sounding bike. BUT, I still got my 2001 GSXR 600 & it hasn't been serviced by a shop in ten years. I just get new tyres when needed & do minor stuff myself. And still runs like the day I bought it. Shallow pockets, Its value for money I'm after. Thanks for sharing an honest opinion... Oh yeah, I can carry an air pump & repair kit...
Played the sound of that V4 on my hifi set. Neighbors didn’t like it but I did 🤣 rode a 2019 RSV4 last Saturday. Damn… almost lost my license so yeah… gotta have it 😂
Liter bikes are expensive especially doing 10k to 15k a year. Lucky me i did lot of slave work and now I'm a mechanic by trade, I do everything myself I can't imagine needing a mechanic, bikes down time, cost etcm... working on bikes is PITA but 100k miles did all the work never been on road side, and still alive! so we continue. I hear this bike doesn't do well in heat and with stock exhaust you can melt the rear exhaust valve in the piston. Like racing mechanic when you get a new bike better get your torque spec sheet and familiarize yourself with the beautiful beasts procedural work 😍
Should have added Tuono to this as well.. as for valves though.. hell my R1 is the same price for valve checks but the interval is 2x longer.. 24k for the first one.. vs 12k..
You can put a passenger on it. Like you, I don't have the passenger seat on the back, or the pegs, but I could reinstall them on my RSV4 RF if I wanted to. But guess what? I stopped putting passengers on my sport bikes about 20 years ago. Stupid. Makes the bike extremely top heavy, not fun to ride, and puts their life at risk in addition to yours. The bike stops slower, turns worse, wheelies easier.................blah, blah, blah..........just don't do it. Period.
Great & honest review Moto Pilot. I owned an Aprilia Tuono factory & it was more than enough for me. I could only imagine what the RSV4 would be like. Mechanically the only thing that went wrong under warranty was the coolant manifold. I since sold it and buying the BMWs1000r. The Aprilia is an awesome motorbike and if you can afford to have 2 motorbikes 1 of them should be an Aprilia.
The service pricing is exactly the same as my triumph speed triple 1050. I was doing 12,000 miles a year and it was costing me £250 for the 6,000 miles service and £850 for the 12,000 service and I do that yearly
moto...I prefer to think of the higher ownership cost as exclusivity :) I think u can mitigate some of the wheelies with wheelie control but watching your vids my guess is that yours is OFF or turned waaayyyy down lol I don't have enough mileage on mine yet so I am still blaming finding Neutral on it being new (let me wallow in my blissful ignorance for a while). If I could tow something with my RSV4 it would be an extra gas tank I think pipe may be the loudest exhaust for the RSV4 but even my Graves pipe is pretty thunderous when it spins up. Your vids are the best Aprilia on utube!
I saw one of those being done and the tech was having hard time. I read the instructions on it which are different for the early ones and the later ones. It is a lot of work, not enough space and needs to be very precise. Timing the engine is a real pain. There's a very good reason why it costs that much. It takes about 10 hours and at $180 /per hour rate plus tax = almost $2,000. An RSV4 isn't a budget bike therefore, expect to pay big money if you decide to own one and even more if you're planning to race it and even more if you are looking for long term ownership.
I own a 2016 RSV4RR and the hard starts are a pain when you cut her off after she’s gotten hot. The mechanic at the dealership disconnected the carbon fuel canister that catches escaping fuel vapors and it greatly reduced that problem. She’ll roast your butt if you get stuck in traffic and my 12K service which I had done 2 days okay cost me $1210 out the door. I did have to replace the chain which added another $125 to the price but I would not trade her for the world. In fact I’ll be getting an RF here shortly to keep her company
I have an RSV4 and it's at the dealership right now... I paid 1100$ for oil change, oil pressure sensor, new tires, balancing, break flush, and my rear sprocket hub needed some fixing. I used AF1 for parts and oil and that cut a lot of the cost down
@@Mechaneer nothing was aftermarket, it was all OEM Aprilia. The reason why they allowed it was because it was a Ducati dealership and the nearest Aprilia dealership is 4 hours away
I actually sold my brand new Aprilia Tuono 2017 after riding it 9 months. I had it towed to a workshop in total 7 times over that period. Issues ranged from the dash not lighting up at all, to the starter motor failing, to even the ignition key getting stuck (and 2 tow mechanics and the workshop manager couldn't un-stick it). For me, it was absolutely unreliable and I could never second guess the next time it would fail on me. Happily riding a Triumph Street Triple RS and haven't looked back since. For those who think I'm making this stuff up, I have photos for every time it has broken down on me to prove it. I will never recommend an Aprilia to anyone ever.
Sorry you had so many problems, looks like you had a lemon. I have a 16 Tuono, bought it at 300 miles, 3500 miles last year, one oil change, one new rear tire, runs amazing, no issues whatsoever. What an experience every time I hop on it.
This bike is not for putting around town. It needs to be on a track or carving a canyon highway. I have a '15 RSV4 aPRC ABS and it hauls ass and handles excellent.
@@bekenvower pretty sure if you buy it off a dealership you get one with it and I think it shouldn't be very expensive to buy it as an aftermarket part
I like your channel man. I wish I could wrench on my bike the way u do. I plan on doing a build on my bike over the winter. I’m learning a lot from your channel.
Sorry MOTO PILOT. Didn't convince me. Still want one 😀. It was similar with the RSV Mille back in the day. And still kind of is. Because parts are more expensive than other bikes. But I still love my Mille which I'm never gonna sell. I changed her engine my self. So what's a little valve clearence check ? I'll get the tools and do it my self. 900 is way too much. Plus it's fun to do it your self. Love the RSV4 ! Best bike in the world ! 💓💪
You take the good, great, phenomenal with the slight annoyances of owning a beautiful Italian. That Comp Werkes sounds phenomenal. I hope they come out with one for the Tuono! It's either the Comp Werkes or AR our SC Projects for that motor.
SOOOOO true on everything you said. I have a 17 and I found that I can’t reposition the levers much. The left clutch lever will hit the toggles. I kept getting a warning light and didn’t know why. When I held the clutch in at a light it would touch the forward toggle and deactivate my ATC. BUMMER. Good thing I only clutch at a take off👍
The reason it doesn’t like to hot start is the starter wire. Common issue. I think the solution would be to swap out the wire for a thicker gauge. I believe AF1 has a kit for sale.
They ask 900 for a valve service because they know most owners dont know what that means, its 200 max for people who know and have the skill to do it, and thats if they need adjustment, otherwise its about 6 hours max of time. The dealers just love to rip you off with a smile. The expense is the by product of most people not wanting to persue a career in hands on mechanical, it the age we live in.
Great video, brother and love the bike. Try ordering a set of OZ Wheels, you’ll be waiting for 3 months and counting... Something about Italian companies. *I think they see a US address, and they say, “Freaking American, you will wait”
@Muffinman....nope not customs (yet). My wheels aren’t even MADE yet. Something about the “Forging” material is out of stock?! Yet I look at ALL MOTOGP/BSB/WSB all with like 20 sets each?? How can you run out of aluminum? Chevy/GMC just pushed a WHOLE new line of pickups.

"Throw a service signal over weird things" What? Oh, hooking up the tail light wires wrong and unhooking part of the exhaust. WTF!? Next video idea: reasons not to work on the motorcycle any more.
Hey man. I just came across this video cause I’m about to buy an used kinda project one and loved all you said about it. I wish I could make some questions and get some reactions from you. It’s been a long time 10+ years since last time I rode and it was a 1300 Busa. Keep it up man! You got a new follower.
Used to work on Jefferson St. across the tracks from CarMax. Thanks for the tour of my old haunts. At the time I had a '97 BMW F650 which was also made by Aprilia for BMW. Rode in from the dusty town of San Jacinto 5 days a week. I miss going over the CA 91 high flyover at 90 MPH, smelling the re fried beans cooking as I descended into R'side at 5:00 in the morning. That bike would address all the things you said was wrong with your bike. Quiet, 200 mile range, certainly not overpowered/no wheelies unless you abuse the clutch. Kind of goofy looking though.
You serious? High Power, Wheelies, Loud Exhaust ? ... it’s all good reasons to buy one ! *Aprilia RSV4 2014 Owner !! The only thing that I regret is that I didn’t get the Matte Black one xD
I know that area anywhere, van Buren , Indiana Ave , Im glad I watched your video because I was just looking at a rsv4 rf yesterday , just looking for something , it's time for an upgrade
Thanks for not swearing. We're all grown here I assume but there are many more words in the English language and I don't necessarily need to hear "fuck" in every sentence so thanks much

At least you put Chevron in it. ;-)
MOTO PILOT love the vid, funny and informative
MOTO PILOT so how many km on a tank on average like the way you ride??
Aprilia, not for everyone. AF1 in Texas has all the parts you need folks so don't be scared. LOL I'm on my 6th Ape, love these bikes to death.

This and the R1 sound godly 😍😍😍
My ‘12 RSV4 is such a garbage bike that I bought a ‘17 RSV4 so it had a friend. 😈
Thats awesome
I've wanted an Aprilia Factory since I was in Elementary school
Back in the Midnight Club 3 days
for $900 I would buy the manuals to do a valve ajustment my self...lol

The shims kit is 700 with tools. If doing track days maybe worth it. Otherwise another 500 to have shop do it is worth it to me.
I can't decide if dude sounds like Cleveland from The Family Guy or the Creeper Old Man from The Family Guy........ I guess a mixture of both.
Lol
lol, it definitely didn't sound like someone who would be riding a sport bike let alone an Aprilia. More like an owner of a Ram Rebel or something. I approve of this voice though!
Hahaha! Herbert and Cleveland combined 😂
You CAN put a passenger on the bike just need to change the rear seat, its got rear pegs

APRILIA PASSION LIVES ON!
My Tuono has no rear brake pressure, stubborn neutral, blows fuses when pulling the battery, runs hot and more but I love it
Your bike sounds great, but your right I think loud bikes attracts cops. I have a ZX14R with stock exhaust and I love it.
201 horsepower? Oh shit! That's a fucking beast!
Peace! D
I've got a 2017 rf awesome bike
$900 is nothing compared to a Ducati Panigale or MV Agusta Buddy! The valve service more than double that!
I was so worried coming into this video, but glad you came to your senses by the end. I ride a 2015 RSV4. It's a love affair!
One thing we can all agree on, no matter how inefficient, expensive, or unreasonable a bike may seem to others, it'll still be that one bike you love no matter what.
Go get ‘em MP!! If I ever get west I’d love to do a HD ride. Love your bikes. Lots of attention to detail. Keep on keeping it real.
Right on PG
Too late, my aprilia '18 rsv4 rf le is begging me to go for another ride!
I've never smiled so wide!😈
The only dealer in my state wants 1500 for valves but I'll just buy the parts to do it myself and watch Shaun Neilson's video on how to adjust it he's got a great detailed video on how to do it
The Muscle Biker MB lives! Where u been?
Jesus christ and i remember i adjusted my friends valves for 50$ one time had no idea that's the kinda prices dealerships charge..
just buy your parts from Italy, Fedex delivers in 72 hours
With a great power comes great responsibility 😉
I’m thinking about picking up a used 2016 model for $4000. I’ve ridden sportsbikes all my life, and this model is extremely alluring.
Lol it doesn't run for $4,000
@@Zalonka this one had a salvage title because an accident had knocked off the kickstand.
@@Zalonka fr, I found one for $11k and that's the cheapest I could get
Don't expect to ride a champagne bike on a beer budget. That helmet is ridiculous btw. Just sayin'.
G. W. , so because it's an expensive Literbike, you should expect to get hosed on service and parts? And have poor warranty support?
900 dollar for valve service, thats cheap. In Norway = 1500 to 2500 dollar
Take ur bike for a trip to Poland 😜
Same in Switzerland 😅 i think its a okey price..
Meanwhile your valves are trying to punch holes in the CH.
Played the sound of that V4 on my hifi set. Neighbors didn’t like it but I did 🤣 rode a 2019 RSV4 last Saturday. Damn… almost lost my license so yeah… gotta have it 😂
I'm going to buy this bike in a couple of years (used with hopefullly low miles) and it is going straight to the track!
24k for the first one.. vs 12k..
CVSiN 2015 R1?
Why do you sound so surprised? I mean, you didn’t know the cost of a major service when you first bought the bike? Well now you know.
Loving my 17 Tuono. No regrets!
Except reliability problems just wait and see. Also fo not rode in rain. Last time I ride mine in the rain cost me £400
FYI... $900 is what you'll pay for pretty much ANY V4 bike at a dealer... Honda included.
Texarmageddon double the camshafts of an inline engine
Except Ducati... about $2k!
Sorryimtruthful well if it’s still designed like the panigale... the whole damn bike basically has to come apart
Anth C huh I don’t get your comment to be honest
Texarmageddon yep, it is.
And it might be more work with that front brace in the way?!
The Italian beauty’s are sooo expensive
My Sxv 450 service and maintenance costs are the same as on big bikes!
And it’s just a supermoto fun bike...
You gave me all the reasons to get an RSV4 and I want the RF. I have a ZX-10RR now and I want an Italian bike bad
Oli B I have a rf.She is little less powerfull but much more effective than a s1000rr for example
@@tomlou975 Effective in what way ?
George-Paul Sand She is easier to drive and she doesn’t at the slightest acceleration
Oli B, you just read my mind!
Back in 2002 when Honda came out with the VFR800 with Vtech the valve adjustment cost $500!! And no where near the joy of riding an Aprilia 1100 V4!
The service pricing is exactly the same as my triumph speed triple 1050. I was doing 12,000 miles a year and it was costing me £250 for the 6,000 miles service and £850 for the 12,000 service and I do that yearly
moto...I prefer to think of the higher ownership cost as exclusivity :)
I think u can mitigate some of the wheelies with wheelie control but watching your vids my guess is that yours is OFF or turned waaayyyy down lol
I don't have enough mileage on mine yet so I am still blaming finding Neutral on it being new (let me wallow in my blissful ignorance for a while).
If I could tow something with my RSV4 it would be an extra gas tank
I think pipe may be the loudest exhaust for the RSV4 but even my Graves pipe is pretty thunderous when it spins up.
Your vids are the best Aprilia on utube!
Thanks AR. Yeah, I keep my electronics turned off unless I hit the track, and even then I use #1 setting. LOVE wheelies.
My upcoming service will be no more than 1200.00 here in Florida. Is what its these bike are so fun. But have a 2nd bike
Maybe in Florida, Yes. But here, in liberal toilet bowl NYC rates are much higher. @@GenghisKhan311
no passenger is good, less resposibility, in case you drop the passenger on a wheelie
Less weight, more controllable, more fun 😁
Trouble starting hot? If it hasn't always been a problem then it is most likely because your valve clearances are too tight.
or when its hot
ignition(key) is on
the fan is running according to themostat
robs power for cranking
Or the timing chain is out.
I used AF1 for parts and oil and that cut a lot of the cost down
Legio XXI Rapax worth every penny!!
The dealership let you bring in aftermarket parts and oil for them to install?
Sphinxno1 what.. I am stuck with a street triple rs and still lusting about a tuono :(( do you recommend stripple over a tuono?
Sorry you had so many problems, looks like you had a lemon. I have a 16 Tuono, bought it at 300 miles, 3500 miles last year, one oil change, one new rear tire, runs amazing, no issues whatsoever. What an experience every time I hop on it.
@@florinvid same here going 2 years not a single problem 18 rsv4
Lemon law, full replacement or refund.
Need parts? AF1 and HSBK are your friends, not so much the dealer, if you can find one hehe.
What helmet are you wearing?
This bike is not for putting around town. It needs to be on a track or carving a canyon highway. I have a '15 RSV4 aPRC ABS and it hauls ass and handles excellent.
I got a pillion seat and the cover, the seat is actually almost okay, it's quite soft, that helps
Is there an option to get that pillion seat for passanger?
@@bekenvower pretty sure if you buy it off a dealership you get one with it and I think it shouldn't be very expensive to buy it as an aftermarket part
I have zero regrets buying my Apulia RSV4.. ZERO, and I'm 5' 5". If someone thinks the seat is to high. Get a fucking Harley.....
I like your channel man. I wish I could wrench on my bike the way u do. I plan on doing a build on my bike over the winter. I’m learning a lot from your channel.
A V-4 is always going to be expensive, Honda's alleged reputation for reliability with theirs is at a high servicing price too.
They say the engine needs to be dropped from the frame to do valve checks on this bike
You take the good, great, phenomenal with the slight annoyances of owning a beautiful Italian. That Comp Werkes sounds phenomenal. I hope they come out with one for the Tuono! It's either the Comp Werkes or AR our SC Projects for that motor.
I paid 1300 euro for the Valve check in Germany, so 900 dollar is OK
SOOOOO true on everything you said. I have a 17 and I found that I can’t reposition the levers much. The left clutch lever will hit the toggles. I kept getting a warning light and didn’t know why. When I held the clutch in at a light it would touch the forward toggle and deactivate my ATC. BUMMER. Good thing I only clutch at a take off👍
I took mine to a independent mechanic that charged me $600CND (US$450) to do it, 6 valves needed to be adjusted.
What the hell is goin on with that helmet lol..
Tie Fighter pilot
Lmao
Dukey_40 It's his motovlogging gimmick.
Good video bud ... thanks for the stickers again 👍
The reason it doesn’t like to hot start is the starter wire. Common issue. I think the solution would be to swap out the wire for a thicker gauge. I believe AF1 has a kit for sale.
My service just cost $1,976. Feel better now? That RSV4 rr in Australia. 👍😎 great vid by the way!
Do a video with that zipped up leather biker jacket n the Levi’s jeans like a gear review
Did you have to get a race ecu for the slip on? I’ve heard there a lean spike if you don’t. Thanks man! Enjoy your channel!
Thanks for the maintenance info.
I thought about buying a pre owned 2010 but now NO F--KING WAY
Great video, brother and love the bike.
Try ordering a set of OZ Wheels, you’ll be waiting for 3 months and counting...
Something about Italian companies.

@Muffinman....nope not customs (yet). My wheels aren’t even MADE yet. Something about the “Forging” material is out of stock?!
