Objectively they got a better player but I remember Paul George and the rest of the players talked about how it fucked up the locker room. Granger was George’s mentor coming into the league and then the rest of the players really liked Granger’s presence in the locker room. They were 41-13 with granger and then they ended the year 15-13 after he got traded, so they went from a 63 win pace and probably a chance to go to the finals, to another ecf exit

Trade stuff can definitely be difficult. The balance between the human side and the business side is tricky. In one way yes these are real life people that can be significantly affected by being traded, while each team is trying to do what they believe to be in the best interest for their organization. I think I theoretically like a lot of your ideas, but no in in-season trades would be a WILD change to the concept of teams/players view of expectations. I kinda like (the potential for) things getting mixed/changed up, it allows for new and different things to happen in the midst of stuff that may rightly call for a change. Plus when guys move around it's not just the same season getting played out over again, when things get shaken up and there is new faces in new places, it helps keep things interesting I think. But I generally understand your side of what you're saying and why. Anyway, another thought provoking video, so thank you again. Always good shtuff my friend.
Yeah, dude I'm getting roasted on tiktok for some of these takes. I think for me the trades are so often that I'm burned out on the drama. It's exciting at the trade deadline, but after I've seen these star players in every jersey in the NBA, it loses significance for me. I would love to see a "Hard Knocks" style documentary following a team through the whole season. Really see what these guys go through and the bonds they make with their teammates.

I liked everything you said in the video except the No Trade Clause, cuz it can lead to the player just being complacent like hey I don’t need to perform well, i’m getting my money from this team no matter what. Just looking at the bradley beal situation, he can kinda just stay on suns as long as he wants even if they continue sucking.

They were struggling with injury with a more and more unreliable cp3. They needed a bigger change than just benching cp and replacing ayton with a marginally better center. The kd trade was probably not the best route to take, but they couldn’t just do barely anything and expect to get better.

Prohibiting in season trades is a horrible idea. If you're a bad team or maybe a mediocre team and the trade deadline is looming you in your mind believe that your team has a chance to get somebody who might improve you before the end of the season. The same thing goes if you're the second or third best team and you pick up somebody at the trade deadline and have a really good second half of the season. That can't happen if there's no in-season trades. On top of that it gives us something to speculate about and provides a lot of interesting content. It's like a second roll of the dice. If you're a fan of a bad team and you know that you have no chance with your current roster then you're just going to tune out eventually. Even if it doesn't work out you still feel like your team is at least trying to get better while it still mattered.
Has there ever been a team that has won the NBA, made the finals or made deep playoff run with thier best player not being a top 15/20 player in the league. Like a team filled with top 50 but not top 15 players

You also should have mentioned that when stars are outgoing or sub textually saying they want there team to trade for some player there also saying I'm willing to trade my current teammate for somebody else
I don't doubt that it messes with people heads, like your entire life gets changed in like a matter of days, but I think instead of no trade clauses or no in season trades, maybe have like a grace period for the front office to say hey you're getting traded heres like 2 weeks to get stuff figured out. Have like transition meeting with the new teams and such. I doubt many teams would do it but it would be cool to have like a designated vet spot on the coaching staff for new or young players. Maybe a retired or ex player. While trades can have a negative effect in some cases, I do think it's made the league better overall. The more disparity in the league the better imo. I'm not one for dynastys.
I agree. there should be some warning. we're all adults just tell the players about the trade talks. It'll hurt, but they'll understand it's business and appreciate the extra time to prepare.

Enabling more players to have a no trade clause is a good idea, but maybe limit it to all star level players and to players that sign an extension with teams that drafted them. Rewards players for their good play and commitment to a team.

I don't mind if players want to be traded.. But if you know you're a tier 1 superstar, don't go teaming up and destroying the essence of competition, man. Even Kobe was going to leave for the Bulls and Clippers back in the day (never happened, obviously), who didn't have guys of extreme caliber as he was himself. He wasn't going to go to the Spurs, Nets, Pistons or Mavericks. It's not so much if you leave as it is how you leave.

The one year rookie deals would be minimum contacts not rookie scale
