    Bulk hair extensions can be a drag when you need a weft. Doc will show you how to make a weft, no sewing machine required!
    Products Used:
    Bonding Tape:
    www.doctoredlocks.com/doctored...
    Liquid Gold Adhesive:
    www.doctoredlocks.com/liquid-g...
    ShapeShifter Professional Monofiber:
    www.doctoredlocks.com/doctored...
    Steps:
    1. Cut a piece of bonding tape the width of the desired weft.
    2. Brush a generous layer of the adhesive onto the tape.
    3. Spread hair across the adhesive, leaving about an inch over the top of the tape.
    4. Cut a second piece of bonding tape the same length as the first. Secure one end of it to your work surface - sticky side up.
    5. Brush a generous layer of adhesive on the tape. Remove the end from the work surface.
    6. Place this strip over the first piece, sandwiching the hair between the two strips.
    7. Using a flat iron, apply heat to the tapes.
    8. Trim the top of the weft.
    9. Your wefts are complete. Simply remove the backings to install.

    You are welcome! If you add a few drops of instant nail glue or liquid crazy glue along the weft, you will have no shedding at all. This works with all wefts - not just ones that you make but with bought ones too. As to how long it will last, that depends on the type of hair you use and how it is maintained. Just like all other wefts, the hair will fall apart long before your sewing will. :)

    I have a ponytail of my niece's hair (long story) and was going to surprise her by making extension clips for her. Sally Beauty rep said to buy their $20 wefted hair to use, much easier, but can I use this method then sew clips to it? I'm worried it's not strong enough for it.

I've been searching for this for so long. my problem is, that I'm from Germany so there are a few thing that I could not understand. when you use the tape on both sides of the hair, how can you use it afterwards? you need one side that doesn't stick to put it in, but you put doubleside tape on both ends?

    Question! Would it be possible to use this method to make a sort of tape in fringe? Is that even a thing? I know there are clip in fringes, but if you wanted extra hair in the front without clip-ins, could tape ins be an option?

    • @doctoredlocks

      You could certainly try it - the problem would be getting it to blend. If you had enough hair to cover, I don't see why it would be a problem.

    • @doctoredlocks
      @doctoredlocks  7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      It is a resin based adhesive. Goes on as a liquid, dries into a golden colored resin. Remover dissolves the adhesive completely - way better than latex adhesives!

    How is the weft reusable after the first use? Doesn't the tape extension remover also break down the liquid gold and cause the weft to fall apart? Thank you!

    • @alexahowmanyhamsters1312
      @alexahowmanyhamsters1312 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry I know you posted this forever ago lol but did you ever find the answer to this? :)

    • @doctoredlocks
      @doctoredlocks  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Reusability is possible, but not guaranteed. You are absolutely right that if remover gets inside the weft, it will break down the liquid gold.
      Because of the non-porosity of the tape itself, the liquid gold usually stays intact for a few uses unless you are excessive or aggressive with the remover.
      I wouldn't consider this a forever solution, but a fast solution for bulk hair additions. :)

      @alexahowmanyhamsters1312 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@doctoredlocks Thank you for your reply! Is there another more "permanent" glue or would they not be safe to have near your scalp? :)

    • @doctoredlocks
      @doctoredlocks  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not really. Extension adhesives are designed to be removed. As your hair grows, you want to he able to move them up.
      There are more stable wefts that would last through more uses. Modern tape hair and/or wefts with this adhesive would get you closer.
      This method is best for hair that is in bulk that needs a top binding to be more useful. :)

    • @doctoredlocks

      The only downside to using Kanekalon is that it might get snarly quickly over time when they are installed. ShapeShifter is ideal because you can straighten it back out and it stays silkier. If you've got Kanekalon on hand, I'd definitely try it! Its always good to experiment and find what works for you. :)

    Can you put this on your head if your bald from chemo? I want to make some for my mom but with her own hair before it falls out.

    • @doctoredlocks
      @doctoredlocks  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can absolutely make wefts from her own hair. If someone is bald though, then I would use the wefts to make something that is more like a wig - that way, if you decide you want to use the wefts as extensions after her hair is growing out more, then you can just take them off of the hairpiece/wig you created for her. I would look at getting a top piece that isn't her hair for the top as partlines can be tricky.

    • @doctoredlocks

      The liquid gold saturates the hair strands. The tape does not. Tape aline will not hold bulk hair.

    Hi! Thanks for sharing the video. Quick question, when installing, could the weft be sewn in this way or would I have to use a fabric tape of some sort?

    • @doctoredlocks
      @doctoredlocks  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You can't really sew in no-sew wefts because the seams will rip.
      You'd want to use the sewn weft tutorial to make more durable wefts.

  • @yisette100
    @yisette100 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hello, I want to know why you put adhesive on both sides, thanks

  • @doctoredlocks
    @doctoredlocks  10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    The only thing that makes it hard is that sewing into the caulking will just tear through. So what you can do is use a fabric tape and adhere the weft to that, then sew the clips to the fabric.
    That will work better than trying to sew into the caulking. It's still not ideal, but will absolutely work. Just be careful when you brush them not to pull too hard. They will still be more fragile than normally sewn wefts.

      To be honest - this is an older method. It used to be that you would put these pieces in and it would grip the hair on top and bottom of it - but people have switched to using the sandwich method of installation. So for that method, you would just use one side of sticky tape, not two, when you create your pieces. This video is on my reshoot and update list. Hopefully you still got some ideas out of it. Sorry for the confusion! :)

    How can I make a no sew weft to create a wig? I can't sew through this tape you're using or can I ? Or should I use fabric tape ?

    • @latoyawilliams52513
      @latoyawilliams52513 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      try a wig cap and then hot glue the wefts on the wig ..

    • @traceymallard
      @traceymallard 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      okay but I would need a hot glue gun, and I don't know how flexible this tape they use actually is..also whats the price on hotn glue guns? and I guess I would have to colour the weft tape black so its colour wouldn't show.

      I'm not sure for your particular situation - gluing or sewing are popular options.

      This video was "how to make" not "how to use." There are lots of ways to use this type of hair. Thank you for your interest though! Maybe we will make those videos sometime. :)

    I would worry that the flat iron would singe or burn the tape

    • @doctoredlocks
      @doctoredlocks  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can always test your temperature with a scrap piece of tape and adjust if needed.

    my hair is incredibly thin and fine especially at the crown. what are my options for extensions? I really want synth dreads but if hate to spend the dough only to find i couldn't use them. What's a girl to do???

    • @doctoredlocks
      @doctoredlocks  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      There are lots of options. We have a tutorial for how to make a dread piece for bald girls - or people that want a temporary style - so worst case scenario, if you install them and find that they don't look quite right, you can use that tutorial or make a piece for the top. :)

      Thank you 😊 I'm going to make the piece as soon as possible, I'm so excited! I've always had very thin hair so I've been very limited as to what styles I could do but I've always loved the look on others. I'm like a kid in a candy shop! Ill let you know how it goes. Thanks again ☺

      Hi there, I'm not sure exactly what you mean. Can you try asking it in a different way?

  • @doctoredlocks
    @doctoredlocks  10 ปีที่แล้ว

    Are you asking how to make skin weft? Is that what you mean? If so, you really can't make skin weft yourself. It requires a "rooting" manufacturing process.
