  • The Jota Moncadeña originated in Moncada, Tarlac as an interpretation of the Spanish Jota dance by the local people. It combines Spanish and Ilocano dance steps and music, featuring bamboo castanets. Another name for the dance is Jota Florana, which was traditionally performed at funerals to accompany the bereaved family and represent melancholy through the high pitched clicking of bamboo instruments. The dance includes slow sections named for death or fainting that are performed to funeral marches.
