Waiting for the Fall

  • Subtitle of this is “Synclavier Regen 1st Impressions, Part 2”… I just posted the first impressions video three days ago (2 days, 23 hours ;) ). This is a very different piece of music, though still maybe not a complete song.
I was going for very atmospheric. I purposefully avoided the thirds (though there are 7ths) so you really can’t tell if it is major or minor or, perhaps, even the key. The resolution at the end of the two passes has elements of both major and minor, so still ambiguous.
The “singing” is almost more chanting. The message of the song is avoided almost as much as the key. It can easily be taken as “economic”, but I hope the video points more towards environmental.
Except for my voice (which is as bad as usual, but hopefully not any worse), all sounds are the Synclavier Regen. I did use a lot more reverb in Cubase than in the first demo, but a few of the sounds rely on heavy use of Regen’s reverb and chorus, so I would say this is still heading towards a demo.
All of the sounds are ones I created in the last week, week and half, and are all additive/FM. A couple I used on the 1st Impressions video.
    Hope you enjoyed!

Nice work again Trent. The visual fades are hypnotic and work well with the music pace. (I love a slow pace - which is difficult to do well). The organ tone builds successfully for a dramatic compositional swell. You typically have a sparse lyric which translates meaning effectively. Very, very good work!
...oh, and NO _ your voice is NOT bad, You are an original. I love it.

Thanks, David! The beginning of my 1st impressions for the Regen was so dense with different sounds that I thought this more sparse, building song would make a good counterbalance to it.

Thanks for those track created with the Synclavier. I love this thing. One of the things that keeps me from pulling the trigger Is my fear of sounding "too 80s". It seems like It's not the case.
Have you used the Synclavier as a sampler yet? I'm curious about that side too.
Anyway, thanks Again for those videos

Thanks! It is a great instrument and I've really been enjoying it. No, it is not stuck in the 80s! I've played with some of the samples that have come with it, but haven't used my own - I hope to soon. There are a lot of preset timbres that use samples. The conventional ones are pretty good, but the more untraditional sounds using samples and FM are great - definitely not 80s!
