    Ted telling Carmichael is actually brilliant. If Carmichael wanted to take Ted down, she would have to open an investigation into an ex-anticorruption superintendent. Therefore, it would start to blow a hole into the "we can't investigate institutional corruption" and AC would be forced to look into Osborne etc.

    • @SL0409
      @SL0409 3 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      @@Harry_SS H was just the codename AC-12 were using for the 4th man who was helping the OCG from inside the police force. This was buckells. AC-12 (and the viewing audience) mistakenly assumed H was 1 man at the top pulling all the strings and this wasn't the case which we found out during the final episode. The point of the final episode was to show that corruption is more than just 1 man and there are numerous corrupt factions in place and constitutional failings allow this to happen. Was Osbourne involved in corruption? Almost certainly yes he was. He wasn't H because H was the person who was communicating through the laptops and this was proved to be buckells due to the continuous spelling mistake over numerous years. The thing people aren't really grasping is the fact that H/buckells wasn't a criminal mastermind that brought together corrupt officers to work for the OCG he was actually just 1 man in a chain of corruption.

    The secret to Line of Duty’s success (in series 1 - 5) is the dramatic irony: we as the viewers know more than AC-12 in the initial episodes. We then spend the next few episodes watching our ‘bent coppers’ either dance around AC-12 trying to divert their suspicions or the OCG/corrupt prison officers and eventually, usually by the penultimate episode, our trio are as up-to speed as we are. Then we have an episode or two where we’re learning at the same pace as AC-12; it changes the tone and the tension builds to a climax that packs a punch.
    The suspense built at the end of those episodes was organic: it wasn’t a cheap cliffhanger where you’re left asking questions about what the AC-12 team have just learned and not revealed to the camera. You have, for example tracking back to series 4, just seen Arnott thrown down a few flights of stairs or, in series 3, seen Denton getting her brains blown out and Dot switching the number plates to reveal he’s in Arnott’s car.
    Most of the tension in this series felt artificial. The Jeremy Kyle-esque ‘who’s the father... you’ll find out next week!’ and the gun stand-off with two bullets being fired and not knowing who took them felt like cheap and lazy writing tricks, used by much less skilled writers to contrive an investment to tune in next week.
    Similarly, some of the powerhouse characters seemed very poorly written in the closing episode. Considering Carmichael’s ‘Star Wars-style’ entrance and takeover, she happily blended into the background and left our trio to run around intercepting transport and interviewing the fella she was trying to protect. Why does our controlling and petulant Pat now seem comfortable being out the loop and in the shadows until the final 5 minutes?

    • @leopold7562
      @leopold7562 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Because she wasn't trying to protect Buckles. She's protecting the real head of the OCG. Buckles is just a scapegoat, and she let them chase him because she knew that would keep them off the scent.

      Actually, Buckells could appear to be inept while intentionally covering for someone higher up pulling the strings...maybe Buckells was recruited early on for this position and was groomed willingly??? Remember things are not always as they appear. “Definitely” , after all of the relentless hype over the past week in countless TV interviews and discussions with the Cast members. ( I've actually seen more exciting, faster paced episodes of "The Simpsons")
      We see a half arsed car chase - with less drama than the one from the Toy Story 2 movie. Culminating in a feeble surrender by the heavily armed "men in black", and then a flaccid climax revealing "H" was actually the bungling, detective Buckell "what a pain in the ass". Which makes me wonder - Does "H" stand for Hemorrhoid??.
      So that's where they can stick the next series..😂😂

Both Daphne and Gail in the show got too close to corruption and were killed for it. One thing you can give Jed Mercurio props for is incorporating real life events into his stories. Thanks :)

    it really wasn't that bad, sure it was a little underwhelming, however they finished all the storylines, they wrapped it up nicely,, I do think it was quite clever the reveal of H not really being anyone, did want more action though, despite it being a tad underwhelming it was nicely concluded . Pluss the acting especially by Adrian was amazing. I did like how the final shot was them going over all the previous characters like Roz, Lindsay and the final shot bringing it full circle with Gates's photo on top was a nice touch. Who let Doc in to have a private chat with Tommy Hunter?
      Ian Buckells

They tied up some loose ends but leaving AC12 about to get merged, Ted on the verge of retirement and Osborne who is obviously up to his neck in it, pretty much winning DEFINATELY signals there is more to come. They'll find another bent copper, they'll investigate (hampered by Carmichael's interference), midway through the season some evidence will emerge connecting the case to the 4th Man/Laurence Christopher/child abuse cases and they'll discover there was another Mr Big behind the scenes all along using Buckells as his (or her) mouthpiece/patsy. Mercurio knows what he's doing.

    In every way, yes. It was unbelievable that the fourth man turned out to be Buckles, sad that Ted wasn't able to overturn his forced retirement, weak that Steve and Kate simply accepted their gaffer's waffly excuse for giving Steph all that money, infuriating that Carmichael didn't get tossed out for deliberately ignoring links to bent coppers even as she was taking over the section specifically tasked with investigating bent coppers, and dizzying that Jo was suddenly off in John Lewis land with gorgeous girlfriend and dog in tow. All the tension with Steve and Occupational Health came to nothing. The matey relationship between Steve and Kate seemed forced. It was too contrived that Chloe went away and came back with rich info, over and over again. Yet we never saw her actually doing anything to find all that evidence - it was all done offscreen. And conveniently discovering the box with all the DNA was just the final straw. Oh, and I'm sure lots of people misspell definitely.

    Ian Buckles was never clever enough to be H and this turned out to be an ending more like Scooby Doo

      Did you see the compilation that came out on TH-cam today of Steve and Kate calling each other “mate” ?

    I'd love to know who forged the document requesting Jo's transfer (putting Lomax and Fleming's names on it)? Couldn't have been Buckells, so who did it?

      That was the whole point
      They made out to the audience that "H" was 1 man pulling all the strings and the audience bought into this.
      Then in the final episode it was revealed that this was never the case at all and corruption is never just 1 man.
      Intelligent writing that went right over most people's heads
      Like people are thinking that the show outed buckells as a criminal mastermind and it didnt
      The problem for Jed (the writer) was the final episode was far too intelligent for the majority of the audience

      @@SL0409 I think it was trying to show that Central Police is a failed institution and will never be free of corruption. And that greedy, bumbling, opportunistic buffoon's can rise when sytemic corruption is endemic. You only have to look at current events to see that.
