You gotta understand that the character and the person playing the character aren't the same. I personally don't like roman reigns, but I think Joe is a pretty cool and nice guy. People have hated the character because WWE booked him to win 90% of his matches, he always won even when he didn't need the win, he was always shoved into the title scene no matter what and on top of that they tried to book him like a Cena clone, which just doesn't fit him very well.

No one hates Roman, people hate Vince McMahon and the creatives for consistently putting him in the main event. And he’s always the top guy, and others don’t even get a chance to shine.
There was a time when fans really did hate him. Maybe not him as a person, but definitely as a wrestler. If you watch his entrance the day after retiring Undertaker, there's no way you can claim that they're only mad at Vince.

@Joergen Schmoergen they do get similar heat just for being the guy I agree. It became cool to dislike cena, the cena sux/let's go cena tennis chanting became a thing whether ppl liked him or not, and now it seems he's universally liked by the IWC because he's not around going over on the Internet darlings as often. A lot of stuff cena was criticised for were for choices cena made, well I say made its more like booking decisions he enforced, and for politics backstage, but by all accounts this guy is the nicest guy you could meet.
