  • These slippers were sent to me to be completely reconstructed, keeping only the uppers. I started shooting the project late, after I discovered it was a bigger project than I first thought. I spent hours working on the uppers before I started shooting, so there is quite a lot of work done on them not documented.

That turned out much better than I thought it could! The damage to the uppers was significant, but you did a beautiful restoration! That is a very interesting construction you did as well. Why did you use a glue on welt instead of a real welt?

I don't understand what you mean. Real welt? As in welted shoes. These were not welted shoes.

@@davidsonsshoerepair sorry I'm not a cobbler so I am not sure how to ask this clearly. You stitched on a new glue-on welt, it looked like you could have attached a real welt and stitched that on like you did, then stitch the welt to the outsole to hold all of that new cork and outsole together. I'm just curious if there was a way to have done a welt conversion?

@@mike2228 It wouldn't have been a proper welt conversion, and it would have come with some disadvantages. I chose this, because in my opinion, this was the best way. For many reasons. There is always hundreds of things to take into account and I weigh them all together, to make the best combination of strength, durability, flexibility, reparability, price, and looks. And last but not least. The customers wishes.
