I just love the creations of Julie Picarello’s. Patterns in Polymer is my favorite PC book.
Liz, hope this helps!
1) you must use a medical grade tissue blade - they have a very thin, sharp edge and are slightly flexible. The thicker blades will not work.
2) if your clay has been worked quite a bit and is warm and soft, the blade will drag rather than slice through the stack of clay. Pop the clay in the fridge until it is cooler and firmer, and the blade should slice cleanly.
3) lastly, it truly is a matter of practice makes perfect! Practice on scrap clay to develop your skills.
I absolutely love her style 💜
Wonderful technique! Thank You Julie Picarelo!
It's great to see her demonstrate a little of her technique "live"!!
Good question! The tissue blade will glide more smoothly through a stack with clean, even edges, so slices will be more consistent. While I did not have time to go into it during filming, I will sometimes use the edge trimmings as part of a collaged bead design - they are pretty cool!
Julie, you are amazing. The beads are gorgeous!! Gonna try this technique soon.
Hi Maureen! To answer your question, temperatures vary based on the clay you are using. y favorite Premo clay cures at 275 degrees, and the curing time is a minimum of 20 minutes, but I typically double that. Using a toaster oven can be difficult, as the way they work is to cycle on and off as
Hello Julie, how are you doing today it’s nice to meet you here 😊
Whoops! Missing the rest of my response...here it is! As the toaster oven cycles on to maintain temp, clay too close to the coils can scorch. To help minimize scorching, make sure your oven is calibrated correctly by using an oven thermometer to test. You can also make a "tent" of aluminum foil over your clay to protect it as well. Hope this helps and I wish you all the best on your polymer journey!
I have your book and love it, but it is great to be able to see you at work in this video, too!
Thanks.
Just beautiful and amazing work!
Wow! Loved those beads...the colors, the shapes...really neat designs. Have to give it a try and am going to subscribe. Thanks for sharing your talent, Julie.
Hello Sandra, how are you doing today it’s nice to meet you here 😊

Hello Lantos, how are you doing today it’s nice to meet you here 😊
Great tut👍🏻
Too cool
Thank you 😊
I bought your book and it's fantastic and I love your designs 👍🏻
Me, too! Julie's technique is by far my favorite, and her book is packed full of instructions and inspiration...sooo cool!
Brilliant!
Hello Sharondale, how are you doing today it’s nice to meet you here 😊
What is the next video you mention at the end of this one? I was trying to locate it but can't. You say something about a necklace technique. Thanks!
very nice!
I just tried making this but blade did not slide throught the clay as smoothly as yours did. Do you know why that happens? Do you have tips? Thank you
I love your book Patterns in Polymer! You are an AMAZING artist. One question pls? With the shortage of Premo Clay I am not able to find Premo White Translucent to make your Jecru. Is there another PC colour you would recommend? I am anxious to do this right.
What is that surface mat you're cutting on?
That is beautiful. I have a little toaster oven and have burnt the clay. How do you know what the right temp. is so you don't ruin a beautiful masterpiece?
Does your book tell how to sand & finish the pendants?
Like no other
how to make this clay?
🤗
this is premade polymer clay from Polyform
Hello Kathie, how are you doing today it’s nice to meet you here 😊
I made one of these.. ,kinda looks crummy to be honest... that brown color is just... blah...
Hi pesto12601!
Here's the cool thing about polymer...if you mix a color and just really don't like the end result, you can so easily change it. Ugly brown? Add gold to warm it and make it shimmer. Boring mauve? Add Alizarin or Purple to make it pop. Any mixed color that you are not 100% happy with can be changed into something you love!
Wishing you all the best as you continue your polymer journey!
