I LOVE the F22, F35’s especially the B, the B1B , B2 , F117 , SU-57 & 37 so much but have to be honest in saying rhe A10 Warthog is a top 2 or 3 all time for me . It’s mission, the regular amounts of damage it takes and keeps kicking, all the redundancies , the functional steam punk design and of course the 30mm . As a child frim 4 years old to my teens my parents had put up wallpaper for my older siblings. The pattern was A10 Warthogs dogfighting . Was very clear and realistic for the 80’s and the hours I’d soend jsut starting at the 22 A10’s all over the walls always made time in my room awesome. I’m hoping with the sensor /weapon system upgrades and Finally a digital helmet display I how the Air Force with freakin lay off retiring it. NO ONE wants it retired, the ground forces particularly, we have a massive fleet of active fighters and a massive amount of boneyard A10’s and parts , it’s the cheapest by far aircraft to operate and maintain , and it’s the best close air support platform in history. The air forces claim that the F35B will fill the roll is insane, there aren’t enough of them to support ground forces the way the A10 squadrons do. The much more often required maintenance of the f35 and the delicacy of the stealth coating and amount of the worlds most advanced flight system computers taking a single round could down an f35b if it hits the right spot. I know they’ve stated it won’t be a low and slow CAS aircraft but will stay high and out of sight using its sensors to dead accurately support forces but the A10 and Apaches mere sound as they near puts the enemy’s heads down and strikes fear in their hearts. Gives out boys some peace of mind. Not seeing their CAS aircraft at all is going to allow the enemy to continue assaults. The A10 destroyed over 400 Iraqi tanks in desert storm with 0 aircraft losses , its provided more close air support missions missions than all other CAS assets combined , the f-16, f-18 , Apache and Kiowa . The 30mm it’s terrifying, the Air Force hates the air craft becasue they feel it’s slow, out dated and “ugly” and want to dump the minimal amount of money needed to maintain them into futur fighter programs. I’m greatful our Congress refused to approve the retirement calling rhe a19 the greatest close air support platform the worlds ever seen and saved more Us and allied lives than any other platform. Then the slap in the face when they required the Air Force to dump $140 Million into updating the sensors and weapon targeting systems so it can be infused with the F35 and all other sensor fusion platforms and finally got them new helmets with data display and targeting on screen, no more markers needed for the windows. That $149M update will give Congress a reason to keep it in service for another 5 years at least. With the near peer threats of the Soviet Union and China and their low tech equipment but massive numbers the A10 I’m positive will be needed in a global war, the ability to fly and perform their missions without hydrolics and electronics will be needed where the Soviet Union is developing scramblers and jammers for our high tech combat vehicles. There is not a single reason that justifies retiring the large amount of A10’s we have when the Air Force top brass are the only ones in the US and allows that want it gone. So we can pay $130M per F35 having a much lower number of aircraft becasue of it the extreme expensive flight costs and maintaining costs compared to the lowest costing A19 platform is rediculous. I believe the F35 program and it’s Sensor Fusion with all our assets & allies assets will be a game changer, but never hurts to have a low, slow and beat them to hell option, use the tech and use the A10, keep the enemy on their toes. Noones asking for more A10s , we have plenty , their all in service , all upgraded and serviced, why scrap them. I’m also furious with the Air Forces decision to cancel production of the F22 so quickly, we could have easily gor another couple decades out of them. The f35 isn’t an interceptor , I can attempt that role and surely hold its own but the performance isn’t even close. Russia has amazing Sukhoi interceptors that are faster and more maneuverable than the f35 , I know the idea is to not be seen using stealth but the Russians or Chinese WILL crack the code on developing a radar thst will detect our stealth aircraft, the stealth research came from a Russian. If stealth is cracked, our small number comparatively of f35’s with no stealth will be well outnumbered and outmatched. Only the sensor fusion concept will have a chance of saving us and I pray they are never able to jam or jack into the data sharing or we are screwed. We’re retiring 95% of our Abrams tanks and artillery units in the Army snd Marines ,banking on sensor fusion and long range precision guided weapons to fight out next war unmanned but 12,099 Russian tanks storming Europe and ally he aircraft and manpower , if our sensor fusion program is ever hacked or jamable we have not rank battalions left to send to Europe, military personel numbers are being reducing relying on AI and computers to take over a lot of duties putting ALL our eggs in tech and smaller forces could be disastrous potentially. I’d hoped they’d maintain some traditional components, our tank battalions, the A10, F16’s , strengthen our troop numbers and continue tech development and advancing. It’s what we’ve done the last 35 years , never put all yo ur eggs in a single basket, especially banking on AI. People laugh about concerns of a terminator judgement day type event with AI but the top tech developers in the world like Elon Musk , too military leaders and allied leaders regularly push the AI rush to slow down , stating the concept of an ever learning AI will eventually become self aware , could easily chose to override orders from leaders and the possible shutting down of the AI could result in AI becoming defensive or decide all together human beings are bound to destroy the world, we are every day as it is and eventually a nuclear war will occurs, some psychopath like Kim Jung Un , Iran’s paychopath, some of our enemies connections to Terrior orga sizatuins, all it’d take is Kim going full oaychi which he’s close, or getting a terminal illness or soenthing and he’ll send all his nukes, he doesn’t care about his people or country and I could see him having a IG im going I’m taking the US with me. Him launching would have retaliation and allies get involved in both sides and we end up in a nuclear winter with 95+ % of humanity getting cancer frim fallout thst will blow around the planet for decades in the atmosphere. It’s scarry

Isn’t the MC130J thr new Specter gunship replacement? I didn’t see the 20mm, 40mm Bowfirce or 105mm barrels protruding. I think that was jsut the transport variant.

With the UK purchasing F35’s and F-18’s , F15xe’s they aren’t planning on retiring the Typhoon are they? What an amazing fighter and if sensor fusion and stealth is cracked by an enemy we’re going to need those typhoons !
