I finally finished the entire episode. All jokes aside, phenomenal conversation you guys had here. You took the review/analysis seriously enough but also kept in your genuine humor. Really loved this one. I haven’t seen Brokeback Mountain in years but it truly is a good movie. I also remember the dinner scene with the father-in-law vividly. The way Jack stand up for himself is powerful.
The movie is also so sad. The scenes where the Heath character is learning about Jack’s death is immensely painful. I feel for him in those moments. I might have to go back and watch this again.

PLEASE do Lords Of Dogtown! Hearing you guys mention it made me remember how much I love that movie. That Heath scene when he turns up the music and makes surfboards after everyone leaves is just one of those perfect cinema moments.

This movie really deserved better. It caught all the homophobic memes and jokes. I always knew how straight ppl oversexualized gay ppl but damn, the way society reacted to this film was stilll baffling.
I know ppl don't care to think of the harm the jokes and oversexualizaton causes LGBT+ ppl, but it was so unfortunate. Even Jake Gyllenhaal thought it wasn't a big deal. But Heath Ledger would shut down jokes from his friends. And he refused to perform at the Oscars cuz he didn't see homosexuality as a joke.
I'll always admire him for that and how he spoke about this film in interviews. Ppl kept assuming that Heath kissing jake was the most difficult part of the role. It was honestly ridiculous how many times the men were asked about how they prepared to do the sex scene (and it was more baffling since it was brief and had no nudity). And since that was brought up so many times, Heath grew so irritated. He said how he knows what love feels like, and how to kiss so he did it. It's not that complicated.it was a bit anxiety inducing and uncomfortable sure, but he didn't do anything weird or gross. In his words, he just kissed a person with a soul.
And he also found it ridiculous how so many straight ppl calling him+Jake brave for being in this film. And how some saw this as a career risk. He said how it was just acting, he did nothing brave or traumatizing and how ppl need to relax. He treated homosexuality like it was normal and it's honestly the most authentic allyship I've seen from a straight guy.
He was so passionate and devoted to this film. And I'm also glad this Introduced him to Michelle, had a kid, and made Jake the godfather.
This film was a milestone. Heath+Jake did an amazing job at portraying men who had to worry about their safety for showing love and happiness at a time when being gay was illegal. And how Heath was so perfect in the role that even the author of the original short story said he understood the character more than she did.
However, it's still really sad how a lot of gay ppl were traumatized by the hate crimes in this film. Gay media around this time always had the characters dying of aids, die by their own hands or get brutally murdered. It was a luxury to see a gay movie with a happy ending. And of course society mocking this film or showering the actors with praise for simply kissing each other was salt on the wounds.
Anyway, this is one of my top faves. It really didn't deserve all this nonsense.
When people talk about their favorite romance movies, love stories, (Titanic, The Notebook, ect.) I sometimes bring up Brokeback and it's funny to watch people's energy change. But I'm like regardless of how comfortable you are with the gay relationship, you can't deny it's a beautiful love story.
I fucking love you guys! lol

Heath was discovered unconscious by a masseuse [with no cpr training] that had been recommended by one of the Olsen twins. Instead of calling 911, she called the Olsen and so Heath died.

Haven't watch many episodes of this but every one I do I enjoy so much. I love the deeper conversations and deeper sides of the guests we get to see that are sparked by the simple topic of a fave movie.
This is my favorite format for the show. Just Andres & Carlos & Skeleton talking about film. Sometimes the guests just make the show about themselves and not the film that the gang is discussing.

I've never seen the movie, and I never will see the movie. I like watching movies, especially any good movie. But Brokeback Mountain is a movie I'll never watch. By the way I'm not homophobic. I just have no interest in watching a g*y movie.
