I have the same issue with temps not displaying on my Ryzen build, I think it's due to the kernel version as when I tested 6.8-rc (which has a newer kernel) they seemed to work properly.

I love your server, it was my inspiration to build out my DL380 into a plex server, and I have zero regrets... watching you try to guide your server into its rails reminded me of balancing my 380 on my head trying to guide it into its rails... cracked me up lol.
Once I could relate to the "just because" arguement, for getting new hardware 😂 but now it does not make sense anymore.

HAD A PLEX SERVER for 7 years now. I just upgraded/switched to my 3rd PLEX Desktop. 32GB of RAM & Two - 14TB Hard Drives mirrored using Windows 10 Pro 64bit RAID 1. All hardware free from work they didn't need anymore. So it cost me nothing. It is good to be I.T. I share over 1600 movies & over 100 TV shows in 1080p to friends and family around the country.
I started 2 months ago and I'm up from pre-installed hard drive, to a 500 gb external, to a 1 tb external, to a 3tb external, to 2 3tb externals. I want to eventually do a dedicated server build. This is my new favorite thing.
Yep. I bought a 4TB drive and planned to just download a few movies and add my favs running all on an old laptop I have. I’ve now used nearly 3TB in 2 weeks and I’m considering building my own server because the i7 chip I have in this laptop can’t really handle 4K transcoding. Down the rabbit hole I go…

Sorry man, I like living through your builds vicariously but this is just insane.
Jason, on the dynamix temp screen, type in “IT87” and then click detect. This works for a few folks before 6.8, but it didn’t work for me until I upgraded to 6.8. Lemme know how it goes.
IT87 ("k10temp") will work under v6.8, but likely get him CPU temp only ("Tdie" and "Tctl"). At least in my case with the X470, drivers are not available for the "ITE IT8665E Super IO Sensors" yet.

So just a quick question on your unraid setup, are you runing the unraid off the usb drive and then both getting thumbnails and the plex files on one of the samsung ssds, or am i getting this wrong?

temps work with the 5.x kernel so 6.8rc1-rc7 had that but they rolled back to 4.x in rc8-rc9 and stable 6.8
Inspired by your build I am doing something similar and using a 36 bay server case but I was curious as to how you changed the SFF-8087 cables for the hard drives you had originally to the SFF-8643 cables you used for your LSI card? It looks like you switched them sometime when you powdered coated the case. I have the same LSI control card but of course the SFF-8087 cables are not compatible. Any direction would be extremely helpful. Thank you!

Zen 2 temperature monitoring has been included in the Linux kernel very recently. It is possible that the kernel version unRAID is using is older and the patch is still not present.

I am looking to do a custom build where my component are built into the desk don't want to give too much specifics but my concern right now is sound as this will be located in my office / kids play area / future media room

great build Jason! I like the P5000 > RTX 4000 from a performance perspective, but you're right the RTX 4000 should support more codecs/video formats so i can still see your argument. Thanks for sharing this! :)
On my dual Xeon server I couldnt get the dynamix temps working either. I use Glances in a docker to monitor CPU temps.
weird, my Ryzen 1700, the temps are reading just fine for me. I just updated to 6.8.0. Although, both the MB and CPU temps appear to read the same. But I do have something showing up. I'm running the Asus Crosshair VI.

I have a Ryzen 7 100 build and the latest UnRaid update fixed my problem with seeing my CPU Temps.
i got my threadripper 1920x temps to show but i cant get my ryzen 1700x temps to work at all
That temp plug-in seems to work fine on my NAS with a Ryzen 2700. When I get some free time I'll boot up Unraid on my desktop with a 3900x to confirm if it doesn't like your motherboard.
what is the 4u case you are using. im looking for something similar maybe less 3.5 bays.
You should take your extra hard drives and make a ZFS pool, gets around the max 30 hard drives in a unraid pool. Checkout what Wendel from Level One Techs did for Gamers Nexus.
Ronald Clark that lacked so much. I hate when they edit out a lot of the need to know stuff to replicate it. How they had a problem with fitting it in. Then they cut to 30 mins later and briefly said we swapped it for a smaller fan. That on top of they didn’t go into any technical limitation of 30 drives. Nor why they didn’t use freeNAS
Anywhere to get build specs for Loki? Specifically the MB/CPU and other basics. Was running Plex on a Mac Mini that died, and kinda want to start buying ASAP.
You were asking about monitoring temps on Ryzen. I'm running a Ryzen 7 3800X on the AsRock X570 Taichi with Unraid 6.8.0-rc7 and the temps are showing up just fine.
I just finished replacing the 8 4tb drives I was using for my media server with 8 10tb drives. I feel sad now cause I figured that upgrade should last me for years, then you see videos like this and you get worried that maybe that much additional space won't last you as long as you think it will.
I have an old dell dual core, stuffed with old drives from sky and virgin boxes hahaha
I'm doing a large scale plex build. I'm not a super fan of HW transcode with a video card as it supposedly makes low rez video really bad. Do higher end xeons with 8 cores or more per cpu ( 2011, or 2011-3 chipset ) handle the transcode without Quick Sync? Should I get a dual xeon without quick sync, or a single socket 3.3ghz older cpu the has Quick sync onboard? I managed to get a 45drives Storinator case and need to fill it now. Is there such a thing as one server to hold drives and another that just does plex or is that too much.? My current 1151 3.3 xeon does 21 streams now. Thanks for answering if you can!!

Just wanted to mention I just ordered 2 ea 12 TB WD Red drives directly from Western Digital, turns out they had a pretty good PLEX discount. Saved $208.00, the final cost was $532.46. They will make a sweet addition to my Synology DS1819+ NAS.
I'm curious how much of that space is actually used. Do you do full bitrate blu ray rips? My Jellyfin server is at about 16tb used, and I have 1400+ movies and almost 100 shows. most are 1080p movies, usually between 4 and 10gb each. I've run out of content to download. Not all are as high quality as I would have liked, but stll, I'm barely hitting 16tb.
I couldn't imagine 300tb or trying to back that content up.
why not get the wd 14tb or 16tb drives? Also why not use the WD ssd nas drives for your cache setup. Also you should try transcoding using devices running on a 4g/lte connection to see if you can get the 28 streams you got originally. Go the full 48 drives if you have the capability too. Go Epyc cpu for Loki.

I am building a plex server for myself. I have a couple questions; which is better with a Raid 5 setup with 4 x 8TB hard drives - (1) use the motherboard to create a hardware raid? or use a SSD to put Windows 10 OS and then use the software to create the Raid 5 ? For the HD format use GPT over MBR ? I have room for 8 drives.

How do you like the RTX? Do you think it's ultimate number of transcodes is hampered by it's RAM size vs. it's number of NVENC chips? Right now I'm running a unlocked GTX 1070 for the two NVENC chips that makes it closer to a P5000, but I went overkill on my build elsewhere and would love to run a "real" graphics card for some occasional high resolution gaming. I've seen theoretical estimates for the RTX Titan in the 40+ range (not that I need that, but I'm skeptical since it has no increase in encoding chips vs. your RTX4000 only more RAM.
I think the ryzen issue has to do with the linux kernel. IDK if linux kernel 5.4 will fix ur issues or not, I am having the same issues waiting for the new kernel to be able to upgrade my x470 bios.
Is the P2000 good for transcoding x265 to x264 for plex?
I have the same temp problem but with my dual Intel Xeon E5 2680 V3 CPUs. It is quite annoying.

And here I am with a ten-year-old Athlon II x4 build running Plex on only 10TB of space and 4 GB of DDR3.
No is the answer to the temp sensor question. At least with my knowledge. Spent about 4 hours on it last weekend and every turn led to a dead end. Mostly kernal related if I got the gist of it.
How many clients are you serving with this server and whats your upload speed if i may ask?

What about ECC memory? Curious if you were considering that since you cared about ECC with Zeus. Last I checked, while Ryzen "supports ECC memory", it's not validated by AMD.

@Dynizzle, i think ryzen does support ecc, but because it is consumer grade hardware it only support (depends on the model) 32-64gb.
@Byte My Bits since you're building a server, why not going with epyc series which support +2tb of (ecc) ram, and also were built to work 24/7?

Currently running the same case, but MB/CPU changed out. running a ASUS Prime X570-PRO, Ryzen 5 3600 and (right now) Version 6.7.2 2019-06-25 (NVIDIA flavor). Using the Dynamix family of plugins the CPU/MB temps are populating and the fan speeds as well.

what is your opinion between Hetzner EX-62 NVme and Hetzner AX51-NVME. EX-62 has an Intel i9-9900k and AX-51 is Ryzen 7 3700X. I am look to transcode around 25 stream mainly from 1080p to 720p

Manually set the docker data location in settings. Use SSD, not hdd

@@paulstir Yep! It's pretty simple. Sorry for the quick reply earlier- use the unassigned devices plugin in Community Apps, so you don't have to put the PMS data on your array- the array is too slow. Or, use the cache drive only- but I went direct to a separate SSD, so it's completely removed from the mover and etc

@Bytemybits I have unraid on a 2400g on a 370x motherboard and I can see the temps with Dynamix System Temperature. Fix System Problems is awesome for nailing down the source of problems you are having too. Hopefully that helps you out otherwise the big resource I've been using is space invader one
