    The 200GE makes more sense for the money. 300Mhz difference between the 200GE and 240GE isn't really significant enough. But if for an office environment and you don't plan to convert it to a gaming PC, then I'd give the 240GE a bit of thought. But yeah, 200GE still the way to go mostly.
    I'd love AMD to make a tri-core APU with VEGA 5 graphics for the same price as the 240GE.

    • @cosmizu
      @cosmizu 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      That'd be interesting but i dont think amd or intel is going to make a tri-core cpu. But AMD has before, so i will keep hopes up

    MSI GYABYTE ASUS ASROCK All allow OC with AGESA 1006 BIOS. These CCXs are gen 1 Ryzen 14nm so the same OC limits should apply With only 2 of 4 cores active there might be a little extra the 200GE can hit 4.05 but 3.8-3.9 is a 24/7 number. the question not answered here is will a 220 or 240 GE reach 4.0-4.1 as a 24/7 number. The multiplier and the BCLK are both adjustable it would be nice to know what combo works best for temps and power and if possibly the iGPU or RAM could get a small boost.

      Depends on what’s you’re playing. Normally people don’t pair a mid-range GPU with budget dual-core CPU, and it can be a bottleneck most of the time compared to quad-core CPU.

    Hey Zach and all who see this post in the future... (Future user @ 5/22/2022) I'm still using this Athlon 240ge/B320/16 gigs of ram @ 2666mhz as a daily driver. I upgraded to a discrete Nvidia GT 1030 DDR5 a year after building new. It still holds up as a light media center and older light gaming rig. No complaints in daily use and also sips power and very little heat output into my room.

AMD announced the 220ge and 240ge months ago, so I was wondering when they were going to get released, if at all-someone in the PCpartpickers.com forums said that they were probably only for the Asian market. But now we know they’re not, and we know about their performance, which is great!

    Buy the 200GE and overclock it to 3.9 - 4.1 GHz. (Look in the BIOS update notes for the motherboard you want to buy if it supports overclocking for these chips first) The 220GE and 240GE are not worth the extra money.

  • @MrArocenaGames
    @MrArocenaGames 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    I don't see the point in the 220 or 240GE. Overclocking the 200GE can get you a very stable 3.7-3.9GHz on an MSI or Gigabyte 350/450 motherboard and gives you the upgrade path to a Ryzen 5 or 7.
    Which is what I did for my daughter's PC when it broke (was an old FX-8120 system). Rebuilt with the 200GE on a Gigabyte 350 motherboard which allowed me overclock the CPU to 3.7GHz, then when we saved up enough I upgraded to a Ryzen 5 2600 which I ended up taking for myself (I gave her my I5-6500 build to game on). Not entirely sure what to do with the Athlon CPU now though.

      i3 8100 for single-core performance (i.e games, emulations, etc... as Intel CPU scored higher for single-core tasks), 2400G for iGP (integrated graphics - similar to Intel HD 630 on i3-8100, but far superior), multi-threaded workload (2400G supports SMT 4-8 instead of i3 4-4)...
      If regional pricing for i3 are more expensive than Ryzen 5, go with 2400G, 16GB 3200-CL16 DDR4 and add a RX-580 down the line. If both priced similarly, buy the 8100 pair with regular 16GB DDR4, and buy RTX-2060 if you can (or just buy an used 1070).

    i have a hard time recomending these chips to anyone, not because of the chips themselves, but the platform. ddr4 is expensive compared to ddr3 (45 dollars vs 28 bucks on ebay for 8gb) and the motherboards are way to expensive if you dont have a cpu to flash the bios. (the cheapest b450 motherboard is 68 dollars) sorry but an i5-2400 is 30 bucks and beats this, 23 dollars saved on the cpu, 17 dollars saved on the gpu and 50 dollars saved on the motherboard (you can get 15 dollar lga 1155 motherboards with IO shield) and that is 90 dollars. that is a used gtx 1050.

      Athlon isn't worth it for GAMING, be more specific, do not confuse people (probably wasn't your intention anyway). Athlon is not made for gaming but only for office kind of use, it's iGPU exists there for a reason, but gaming isn't one. These other series like 220GE and 240GE, seems like AMD made just to pump out a bit of money of people who think 100 MHz will do something, it might but its unnoticeable.
