They've heard Beth Hart's & Joe Bonamassa's cover of the song. Which more than did her & it justice. But I'd still love to hear them do Etta's original version.

Jay & Amber, you'll love her "At Last", "All I Could Do Was Cry" and "Trust in Me"!!
edit- Ethel Waters was the first to sing this song live(1933 with Duke Ellington and His Orchestra).
There are well over 200 covers of this song, including notables Lena Horne, Etta, Billie Holliday and Frank Sinatra.

I hadn't heard this version before but I like it. The one I'm familiar with is the one by the great Lena Horne from the the 1940's movie Stormy Weather. There was a version done by Ethel Waters and Billie Holliday. It is a blues/jazz classic.

@@jenniferkasowicz9463 Lena is great! Such a legend. I just listened to Billie Holliday's version that is really good too so different than Etta and Lena's version. It is interesting how each singer puts there own unique touch on a song and makes it their own.

As a metalhead since 1978(8yrs) there is no better music than the blues. Without the blues, there is no rock ‘n’ roll, there is no heavy metal. They owe it all to the blues. Etta James is one of the greatest. Nina Simone - Feeling Good is a great song you should listen to. Enjoyed the reaction.

Billie Holiday, "Lover Man" or "Lady Sings the Blues" can't be beat. Ella Fitzgerald forgetting the words to "Mack the Knife" is a classic. "You'd Be so Nice to Come Home to" (lots of beautiful versions, but Helen Merrill's version from The Cole Porter Songbook is smooth and jazzy.

The first night in my new room I turned on the radio ( & I still remember the first blues song I had ever heard, " Mannish Boy " by John lee Hooker . In Texas where I moved from they had a little law down here called "Jim Crowe" which basically made anything non- white illegal,no shit. That was.the best show! Only Sundays midnite to six. As others have said here, Ella Fitzgerald, Billy Holiday are fabulous and you HAVE to check out Bessie Smith. Jay and Amber -keep safe and lots of love and hugs. Etta James actually made her name as one of the greatest GOSPEL singers of all time before she became this incredible blues/jazz/R&B artist. If I live to be 100, i will never comprehend why she didn't become a bigger star and have more hits. Just a phenomenal talent. You've probably already done a reaction to "At Last," as that's the song she's best known for (and for good reason). But there are some other good ones, including "A Sunday Kind of Love" and "Tell Mama."

This song debuted on stage at the Cotton Club, sung by Ethel Waters in 1933. She was the first to record it later that year. It's also been performed by by Frank Sinatra, Judy Garland, Ella Fitzgerald, Dinah Washington, Clodagh Rodgers, Reigning Sound, Lena Horne, Billie Holiday, The Spaniels and others. In the modern era, Lena Horne's version is probably the most well known version because she performed it when she co-starred with Cab Calloway and Bill "Bojangles" Robinson in the smash hit 1943 musical film by the same title. In terms of record sales, Leo Reisman's orchestra version was the most popular, with the original Ethel Waters record doing quite well also.

She was shy about singing because she had a natural alto voice but I remember her singing this when I was a little kid, with a lot of soul. This is a classic song. My mother used to play a boogie woogie version of it on the piano.

My favorite Etta song is "Come to Mama". Then jump to the late 80's with any song off of her album "Seven Year Itch" but especially "One Night" and "Damn Your Eyes", or "Breakin' up Somebody's Home". That entire album is killer

We’re currently rewatching “Agent Carter” and being reminded of the truly great music that came out of the first half of the 20th century. Glad to know that it will continue to be appreciated for many years to come. ❤

Yes, I'm an old man, but I really miss slower but more soulful music from vocalists like Etta James. Some songs are permanent classics. "Stormy Weather" is one of those songs.
