    Thanks Kevin for sharing my video brother, I really appreciate that!!!! Have fun with both of these cookers!! Kind of hard to compare an algorithm cooker to a PID controlled cooker for sure but both brands have their place in the market and looking forward to see what your feeling is on these!! Have a great weekend bro!!

    I think your going to stick with the Traeger.
    I have an Oklahoma Joe off set stick smoker and it’s my favorite. My pellet grill is a Rec-Tec 700, and my opinion hands down it’s the best.
    Yet, I’m interested to see how you work these smokers, and to see the outcome. Great Video

      I was hoping to get my hands on the OKJ offset, and that's what i was trying to get but they wanted to send me the pellet. Its definitely a beast of a smoker, but i'm a simple person and they are trying to pack a lot into a one grill does all option. I just released the steak comparison this morning, interested to see what you think. Have a great day and thank you for watching, commenting and subscribing!

    Definitely interesting, the rider is beefy but man it does take some work and know how. It blew out my inkbird, runs extremely hot and can’t wait to see you sear on it, I’ll tell you it’s like an inferno on searing. Good series Kevin! Have a great weekend brother!

    My brother has that 1300$ trager I have the dxl, we've concluded like you said temp would be an issue if you don't know the hot spots or how to use the 2 smoke stacks, however we do. We've came to the conclusion with cost, versatility and solidness of construction and of course the tase, throw a 15$ pellet stick in on your cooks and the joe wins. One more big plus with the joe, cooked 10 racks of st. Louis ribs and 2 whole chickens. AWSOME. We have a large family and the joe can make a lot a lot of food all at the same time.

      I’m right there with you, it’s definitely packs a lot of bang for the buck! Have you gotten any smoke flavor out of the Joe? I’m about to switch the pellets up because I still haven’t gotten any in the first 3 cooks. Thanks for watching, subscribing, and commenting!

    I liked the build and apparent structural quality of the Oklahoma Joe pellet smoker, I used it about 9 times until it broke down. Of the 9 times, the area where the burning would take place would fill up with pellets on start up, and when it finally lit, it would make so much smoke, it looked like the house was on fire. It was totally embarrassing to light knowing neighbors were looking out their windows. After the 9th use, the pellet auger seized up. Took it apart several times to clear jams, I bought a new motor, used it once fine, and the auger motor went out again, always using the specific pellets for this smoker, and emptying the hopper after each use. Feeling incredibly ripped off and inconvenienced. I’ve since noticed the same bbq-er I paid full price for was being sold at Safeway’s for 50% off less than a year later so I suspect there were some major issues. Time to take my chances with another company (probably treger)

    I use the Traeger 1300 have been for a couple of years doing catering so give you my feedback.. Pros.. smoking space is massive you can get a lot on there. It holds temp brilliantly (although the temp on the digital readout is not whats in the chamber). It heats up within 20 mins and gets back to temp really quickly. its super simple to use and even has set smoking menu if you were say doing a brisket, although never use them. Cleaning wise really easy. btw Traeger does the best roast chicken hands down better than a conventional oven. Cons.. Shelves dont slide in and out which is really a pain (you can take them out but when smoking you want to slide them out to turn the meat). The digital knob is super sensitive and a pain. Smoke wise I changed from traeger pellets as they were not doing it, but I also find that you really need to smoke at lower than 250 to get any good smoke to the meat, so most my smokes are 225 to 250 unless chicken. Internal chamber temp is not the same as the readout, at times 20 degrees different. Its electric...

    I love my Traeger. I think many people still flock to it because it is a well known name by now. I know I did. After starting the industry, they really have their engineering dialed in ensuring a strong degree of consistency. They arent in a rush to design out the quirks of pellet grills which Weber failed at from trying to hit the ground running, but Yoder has successfully done at a premium price. That being said, for OK Joe's first crack, they did a great job of working with the pellet grill concept as oppose to reinventing the wheel. Their models still have so much room to grow and the price point is a major scale tipper.

    • @ComparisonCooking
      @ComparisonCooking  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Completely agree with this assessment. I thing ok joe will have a really great combo pellet and grill all in one. They will be able to dial in the smoke feature pretty easy from here and keep that sear going really well. Traeger has the leg up, the tech is just amazing, thanks for watching, commenting & subscribing!

    Thanks for putting this comparison together, after watching I ended up buying the new OK Joes with the upgraded controller, price of the new one is on par with the Traeger. Like you said if I am going to be really cooking BBQ I am going with my offset, but having the convenience of pellets comes in handy on smaller cooks. Thinking the new OK Joe will fit the need for me. Let’s hope they address some of the issues from the first version.

    Man. that's a tough one, I might have to go with the Oklahoma Joe. I still love my Kingsford Stockade smoker, it's still a beast, but soon as we move into our new house, I'm looking into the Treager. I wasn't too hip on pellet smokers at first, but after watching this, I might have to give it a try. Great video, Kevin!

    • @ComparisonCooking
      @ComparisonCooking  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Your first offset to pellet experience, your offset will sit and sit and never get used. The second time around, I feel better going back to the offset and using it just as much as the pellet. Just kinda of a heads up, incase you start seeing your offset sitting for weeks. When you move into a new house you probably will want a pellet for set it and forget it, as you will be probably running around on the weekend doing house projects.

    If you want reliability and a consistently reliable pellet grill Oklahoma Joes Rider DLX is not for you!! Bought 2 of these 18 months ago. One for my son as a housewarming gift and one for myself. After the first year they both had an ER2 code. Oklahoma Joes replaced both igniter’s and control panels. Today is Memorial Day with friends coming and I was about to smoke some ribs and the ER2 code came on AGAIN!!! Looks like I’m breaking out the trusty Weber Kettle….don’t waste your money on this grill!

    Yeah well, I have a 3400 series and I just don't like my Treager any longer. $900 bucks and it doesn't hold temps or even get up to the 450 like it claims. I truly hate it. Now, Treager wants to charge more than double just for their new smoker which supposedly holds temps. Sure. That's fair to all of the past buyers who gambled their money on them. I'm now gonna buy the Masterbuilt 1050. At least I'll be getting what I paid for and not some brand name which doesn't even give you a freakin' shelf or hook to hang a spoon. My advice to anyone thinking of purchasing a Treager.... if you have money to waste, sure get it. BUT, if you want best bang for your buck... look around and find another option. There are just way too many smokers out there than to buy into a name that doesn't perform.

    • @ComparisonCooking
      @ComparisonCooking  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have to agree with this assessment. My 2013 Traeger was such a joke. Very frustrating piece of equipment. The new one does hold temp well. I would just never personally pay for it at these prices when all these new brands truly have a searing option.
