One Piece really knows how to balance the writing, from serious and dramatic, to silly and comedic, and it never fails to maintain that balance, so it never gets too silly or too sad.

Always nice to see Sanji use his brain both during and outside fights, and Usopp...the moment he starts feeling shame for all the lies he was planning to tell his friends and refusing to run away, despite having all the reasons to be scared, is so good. I was so disappointed this was cut in the LA😕

I've also seen fans theorize that he smokes so much cause it also decreases appetite. It's just headcanon but it would make sense given his past and how we often don't see him sit down with the others to eat.
My headcanon is that Sanji is closeted trans and smokes to deal with dysphoria. He associates masculinity with usefulness and tries to act super masculine because of it, but he's much happier when he lets his guard down. I can't go into all of my evidence because of spoilers but Post Marineford and Whole Cake Island have a lot of stuff that support this headcanon, though it probably isn't canon.
@@pieperson444 CANONICALLY Sanji was smoking since he was a kid after Zeff saved him, was because only older men could smoke and Sanji wanted to be taken seriously among the older chefs. Also, Sanji is ethnically french so his simp'age has roots in his romantic heritage, not his character. And, During Marineford Arc, Whole Cake Arc, Wano Arcs Sanji was given choices and dilemmas, so, Add in his condition during Fishman Island Arc and how it was cured and 1000+ episodes in proves your headcanon is actually a theory.
Sabaody Arc was an attempt to destroy the crew. You're cheery picking things out context, is not your headcanon, that's your fanfiction.
Headcanon is your theory of the missing lore, Fanfiction is you missing the lore to cook up theory. Im just clearing things up.

While LA was fine in a vacuum to show the world of One Piece to a large audience that is not used to watching anime... they had to cut too much.
The great example is Usopp talking to himself how he's going to lie to his friends that he tried his best and then realizing he doesn't want to lie about it.
Such scenes are sort of small talk scenes, a dialogue you can just skip over if you are not paying attention, but with a TON of character development.
Or Zeff telling Sanji how scary Luffy is, because people with his resolve are the most dangerous in the world and so on.
Yo. So true. Couldn’t have said it better ourselves! That’s why these moments, one after another, just hit. The impact is way harder because of how much it’s developed in the anime!

Probably sound like a broken telephone for saying this again, but I promise this'll be the last time- The LA did Usopp a great deal of injustice. Look at the bravery he shows in this moment, the introspection, everything is just great writing!!
One thing I appreciate about this fight is that we see the start of Zoro and Sanji clearly trusting and depending on the other's abilities and strength, despite how they have been butting heads since Sanji called Zoro stupid in Bartie. Zoro seems to be the vanguard, holding off the onslaught, while Sanji takes care of the chaos happening, in order to get them out of whatever predicament they are in. They are so complementary as combatants.
We also get to see how Sanji uses general smarts and IQ in his fights, very different to the mostly battle centred IQ luffy and Zoro have. I also love the one liners Zoro and Sanji have, Zoro's feeling heavy and weighty (pun intended), while Sabnji's is hot and sassy (I couldn't help myself.)
Lastly, been very busy lately, and have had to watch the last few uploads days past the upload dates, but I wanted to attach a part of my comment on the last video, in case you guys weren't able to see it;
Worth noting, in the last video drop I discussed the idea of information in this world; its sources, how the spread of information, tales, legends and mythos, etc does so much for the world building (because of what it makes us wonder). As a person who primary views and experiences this story as a fantasy epic instead of a shonen, I have always loved Johnny and Yosaku's speech about the legend in the making that the crew is. I think people overlook the weight of those words and how they are sprinkles of just how these guys might shake up the world someday. They add to the would-be legendary tale the strawhats' journey might end up being,
" Burn their images into your eyes"

I guess we could divide characters in 3 categories at this point: devil fruit users like Luffy, "regular" super strong people like Zoro and Sanji, and normal human beings like Usopp and Nami. But no matter the category, OP characters still manage to survive the craziest things lol

These fights are so enjoyable, really show, as you guys said, the place each crew member is at - and gives us a nice showcase of their distinct strengths and tenacity. And all 3 took a lot of punishment during these fights, in their own ways. For me, the scene where Arlong "inspects" Zoros wound always hits the hardest, though ( I really like the animation, and the colour inversion, probably due to censorship of the gore, just works here).
As others have commented, OP does the emotional rollercoaster well - balancing emotion and goofy fun really well, giving you at times emotional whiplash in the best way possible. And we're just getting started in this regard.

On a separate note has anyone let you guys know Netflix dropped a One Piece prequel? It's a one episode adaption of a manga chapter Oda wrote and published before One Piece, and the main character is one of Zoro's ancestors! It's called Monsters: 103 Mercies Dragon Damnation (and if you wonder why they named it that its the name of one of Zoros future attack names). Idk if you guys wanna cover it cause it ends with a scene out of a future One Piece episode, giving it new context, but I don't think it would ruin the experience since it might be years before you guys reach that episode.

After what we’ve seen from him. The way he stood side by side as a part of the crew on the walk to Arlong Park, the LA kinda pales in comparison. Hopefully they’ll give him some more shine in their second season!
Seeing them team up was such a high light! Kurobi goes in for hit on Zoro and Sanji steps in. When it comes down to it, they’re comrades on the same crew and Luffy is kinda like the glue holding it all together. The rubber cement perhaps. Lolol is that fair to say?
Sanji got a lot of cool moments in these episodes, showing his style and like you said, his fight IQ. Some of the best episodes so far! We’re ready for the grand finale of Arlong Park!!

My guy! Ussop's Hammer! Ussop's Hammer! Ussop's Hammer! lol I think they did a great job showing the 1v1's though these episodes. Zoro with Hachi and the different sword styles even with Zoro so tore up. Sanji with Kuroobi, in and out of the water. Honestly, i believe Sanji's got on of the best fight styles in anime. And then Ussop with Chu getting a little braver. The animmation was so well done. But they all took a beating as well so now, it's Luffy's turn! Can wait! Love you're reactions and can't wait to see more One Piece and other anime you decide to watch.

One Piece hits very hard, there are backstories that make Nami's look not that bad. Manga just finished with a backstory for a major character, it was so profoundly sad and heavy I am still thinking about it weeks later.
Also East Blue ends with the next arc, the live action didn't cover it.

Ahh it will be interesting to add little review how you feel about LA now that you watched anime.
Bc I'm sure you see that fans were really content with LA bc it was really good but of course it didn't even come close to original... But as stand alone LA did great.
I can't wait to see you on new waters, and new content you didn't see before, haha all after Arlong park.
But for now we wait for some epic ending to the arc.
From this 4 episodes I like
* Zoro and Hachi fights, and how you feel that he is in pain and like one of you said in a lot of animes they do this "he is all healed now" (ehh when how huh), so I like this about Oda that he shows that characters need to heal and rest,
* shock from Zoro wonds, when you see how even Arlong is suprised you really feel how heavy the situation is bc even he, who hates humans, see that it is too much,
* Sanji fight with Korobi, especially under water, yes he is losing but it is interesting to see the difference and possibilities and how Sanji finds the way to run from water, and last kick, cool Sanji
* Usopp decision to fight and not lie, yeah, Usopp for sure goes on path to grow haha
Nami decision to fight, little thing in this espisodes, but this "it is enought" to me is big for her character, to fight even if we die bc it is enought of Arlong,
* it shows them all coming together they village and the crew

Mihawk is on a very different level. He's one of the seven Warlords of the Sea. Those are among the strongest pirates in this world. You should try to do an One Piece original OST.

As a kid you miss some of the most subtle parts of the story and it may hurt less as is very likely you have yet to fully develop empaty, but believe me, you still understand what's going on, kids are not dumb, if they are older than 5 they get most of what goin, they may lack the experience to fully understand everything but they still understand.
Treating kids like they can't comprehend things, especially bad things dosn't help them at all, if anything will perjudicate they development as it privates them from geting usefull experience and may make them resent you for treating them as idiots just because you are older(at least i remember being frustrated when my parents refuse to let me see something or talk abaut something to me and when i look it up in secret later it turns out to be a very simple thing or something that fidn't had any efect in me)
Definitely some good points on that! When it comes to One Piece it just seems if it’s almost meant to be watched multiple times! Not sure if anyone commented this yet but One Piece is rated 14 years old and above rating even the official One Piece game I played OPTC it mentioned you have to be 14 years old and above, but younger audience sure start watching One Piece because it is fun/ goofy too but I think the younger ones tend to watch anime like Naruto first which is more kid rated than One Piece IMO
What’s cool about OP though is it really seems like there’s something for everyone regardless of age! It’s got a little bit of everything!

Dude yes!!!! It’s just tough with their time constraints. Suppose they did the best they could have. More or less. It would have been awesome to see those extra things though!
