You should research how the nuremberg trials went. Enforcement of laws ex-post facto, torturing witnesses, gathering of false confessions. Several prominent US judges left Nuremberg because the trial was clearly a sham trial. Like you said, it was all revenge and no justice.

He was one of them and was basically an office worker. He asked many times to be transferred out of there after realizing what it was like and they denied it. He spoke out against it immediately afterward for decades and did many things to help bring actual SS soldiers to justice. If he refused then he would've been shot. Tell me how that's complying.

It’s just he’s so old that being sentenced to death or life in prison would just only make his last days miserable. He might as well just Live for however many years he has left, and die knowing he did something morally horrific, and that he regrets what’s he did during that time.
