Vadivel Balaji (Tamil: வடிவேல் பாலாஜி) (17 February 1975 - 10 September 2020) was an Indian Tamil television comedian, mimicry artist and actor. He received the nickname Vadivel after gaining fame among audience for imitating popular Tamil comedian Vadivelu's voice in television programmes.[1] He was well known for his works in the television field and appeared in prime time Star Vijay television programmes such as Kalakka Povathu Yaaru?, Siricha Pochu and Athu Ithu Ethu [ta].[2][3] He also took part as a contestant in the eighth season of the reality television show Jodi Number One. Vadivel made his film acting debut in En Rasavin Manasile (1991).[4]
On 10 September 2020 in the morning, he died due to a cardiac arrest and stroke at the age of 45 at a government hospital in Chennai after fifteen days of treatment.[5][6] On 24 August 2020, he was admitted in two private hospitals; Billroth Hospital and Vijaya Hospital which were located in Chennai.[7] Both of his hands were reportedly paralysed after suffering a stroke and was admitted on ventilator support. It was revealed that his family members couldn't afford to bear the expenditure and on 10 September 2020, he was later shifted to a government hospital just prior to his demise.[8][9]
