    Thanks for the clear and concise video to replace the battery. After a lot of research, I found that the best After Market battery was Newer Tech and OWC was one of the few suppliers that provided this battery. The battery I received had a design capacity was 7000mAh and the full charge capacity went up to 7241mAh - Bonus, as the original battery design capacity was 6300mAh.
    I followed the instructions, and was prepared to pry the old battery with Glue Debonder and a plastic card but to my surprise, I could pry the battery off by hand with little effort - sometimes, you get lucky as I had seen some nightmare videos in getting the old battery out.
    The rest of the battery installation was pretty simple, and once it was charged up - I did a PRAM and SMC reset for the Macbook Pro - I was surprised that these final steps were not mentioned in the otherwise very complete instructional video.
    Finally - after 10days of usage, I calculated and verified that the new battery provided me with 5-6hrs of battery for web video usage compared to my old battery where it had 2hrs at 64% of design capacity.
    I hope this review is useful to someone in 2021 :)

    I can't thank you enough for this video! I followed it to the T and it was much easier than I thought. The hardest part is CAREFULLY removing the old battery. That adhesive remover worked great. I also used waxed dental floss to get underneath the batteries if needed. Again, thanks so much for this AWESOME video! You saved me a lot of money and aggravation.

    An excellent instructional video! I was able to replace an old battery in my mid-2014 MacBook Pro. Used 70% isopropyl alcohol as an adhesive softener. It is less aggressive than acetone, so the process requires a bit more effort, but it still works well.
    One minor point. Contrary to what the instruction says at 4:00, my mid-2014 MackBook Pro had just one screw fastening the battery-next to the connector. There were no "four more [screws] to remove as well-two on each side." There were holes there, to be sure, but they had no screws and were just covered with rubber plugs.

      Yes, I used a flat plastic pry tool that I had and did it "dry" as well! One note, my laptop didn't recognize my battery or charger after the install and the fan was on 100%. I researched the issue and by disconnecting the battery and holding down the Power button for 5 seconds, I cleared the "memory" and the unit fired up as normal and I was able to start the charging/discharging cycles.

    I bought a battery for my MacBook Pro early 2015 model for $55, bought an adhesive from Walmart $5, and use a cotton swab to remove and an old credit card, and it is working perfectly. This videos helps a ton. The stores wanted to charge me anywhere from $120-$280 to repair and the $120 was an estimate.

  • @joeplusolga

    Awesome. I used tooth floss without adhesive remover (for safety, in case of battery fire), and it worked great on my early-2015 MBP. Took me about an hour, slow and steady with the floss and a little bit of prying. The old battery was swollen and the laptop wouldn't sit on all 4 feet, so it was wobbly. After battery change, works great; just calibrating now.

    This video gives great step-by-step instructions with specific hints. I only had to wiggle a plastic card underneath three of the battery's six components, and all of them came out readily or with a gentle firm pull. So before getting an adhesive remover or a heat gun, just open the MacBook and see if you can remove the battery by simply pulling it out.

    Great tutorial, I didn't buy a kit but the big takeaway for me here was to use a cloth to protect the screen while removing the adhesive, I probably wouldn't have even thought of that, so a big thank you there. Other videos I've watched have used fishing string (or some other string) to get under the battery and remove it instead of adhesive remover, which I think would work well but I'll find out tomorrow when my new battery arrives. Best of luck everyone! :)

    We didn’t have any thread at home. So we decided to try floss. Yes teeth floss! We pulled the floss from side to side as a person would when flossing their teeth, except with a lot more force. The first time I put it under one part of the battery it got caught in the glue and broke. We put some olive oil on the floss so that it doesn’t stick to the glue. We had to change the floss 2-3 times for each battery part. But it was amazing. So quick, so easy. Did not damage anything. Thank you for this video, gave us this genius idea :)

    Thank you so much for this video. I actually managed to do this without using adhesive remover. I think over time the adhesive hardens a bit and I was able to remove the original battery by just prying with some plastic cards (I had to double up at times to get more leverage and force applied.) That being said ... I did puncture a cell slightly at one point and it DID SPARK, so be careful - using the adhesive remover may eliminate the need to have to use force on the cells when removing and may be safer overall.

    Pro Tip: While you've got the machine open, inspect the cooling fan and clean with can of compressed air if needed. Extra credit to those techs who remove the heatsync and replace degraded thermal paste. It's the little things you can tell your customers about that make them happy! Anyone have problems after installation? When I installed, powered on, keyboard, mouse are disabled, fan runs like mad, and refuses to charge.
    Update: A simple SMC reset (shift+control+option+powerbutton) solves the fan and charging issue. As for keyboard and trackpad, cover the connection between ribbon cable and unit incase tiny debris gets in, which is what happened to me.

    • @bboyk3vlar
      @bboyk3vlar 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, I had similar problems, except just not the charging issue. I had accidentally disconnected one of the cables so the hard drive got messed up. I ended up taking it to a computer store to get it fixed.
      Were you able to do anything about it?

    • @Artecus
      @Artecus 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@bboyk3vlar Oh, thanks for reminding me about this comment! I need to update it. A simple SMC reset (shift+control+option+powerbutton) at startup immediately fixed the fan and charging issue. I brought it to computer shop, too, and they discovered the tiniest fragments of debris between the ribbon cable and connection. So, no problem with trackpad and keyboard.

    This was an amazing DIY video, congratulations! Now I need help, when I turn the laptop back on, neither the keyboard or the trackpad work. The trackpad cable is properly set, and lets say it may have broken inside during installation, would that also affect the keyboard? The ON/OFF still works.

    • @hazelbenton9634
      @hazelbenton9634 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hopefully you've already figured it out, but yes that's it. The trackpad cable connects the pad and the keyboard to the logic board. So if the power button is working but those two aren't it's almost certainly a trackpad cable issue

    The only part I don't agree with is the calibration ! battery management on macOS system will not depend on charge/discharge process .. all you can do is reset SMC and NVRAM and you're good to go

  • @Bennett15ify
    @Bennett15ify ปีที่แล้ว

    I followed these instructions but my battery won't take a charge and the laptop won't power on. The screen only shows the red dead battery smybol. The magsafe charger doesn't light up at all, though I've tested it works with another computer. Any hints?

    • @poweredbyowc
      @poweredbyowc  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Greyson, if you haven't already I'd recommend giving us a call at 1-800-275-4576 we could probably resolve the issue if this doesn't help.
      If your Magsafe light is not coming on it's an indication that theres either an issue with the Magsafe or it's not receiving power, if it works with other computers I am not certain. It very well could be an issue with the battery, have you already tried an SMC Reset?
      1. Shutdown your Mac.
      2. Unplug the power adapter from your Mac and from the wall power socket for several seconds.
      3. Physically remove the battery or dis-connect
      4. Hold in the Power Button in for 20 seconds.
      5. Re-insert the battery (if it's removable) Re-connect
      6. Restart your computer.
