Hardly anyone shows what goes on underneath the levers. I'd like to see more details on the workings of the interlocks, rods and cables. Thanks so much for sharing. 😎👌🏼
If you’re interested in detail, there are lots of places you can search. This could be a reasonable one to start with: www.svrsig.org/ To do with the Severn Valley Railway; there are lots of links to previous GWR/ BR Western Region practice etc there. Lots of detail there - even some animated ‘dog chart’ diagrams for certain signal boxes, which I haven’t seen before. Have fun!
Gotta love all these "Lever Pulling Experts" You do what you've got to do to get a lever out the frame! this is a pretty informative video, for people who want to find out about the workings of these old boxes.👍
I remember back in the early 2000's talking to some chaps down there about signalling stuff, when I was living still in Berrycombe Vale alongside the old North branch trackbed. I loved it, listening to the bells and noting all the nice interlocks and stuff. My late father was employed by Swanage Railway in his retirement and he was the walking rule book spending his whole life except grade E and F in lever boxes and a lot of it rubbed off on me. Nice to see you all got rid of the 50's scabs and damage, she was in a sorry state when I saw her first down there, gleaming like a new pin nowadays. I met her officially when I was lampsman at Waterloo, or rather the poor sod who trudged up from the now gone lamp arch with his ancient trolley loaded with fresh lamps, sundries for the train and crew, any stores to go down line. Moving to Scotland this year and have promised I will go do some volunteering up there, don't think they need a TOPsman but am old skool booking hall trained, can drive anything BR blue and can flag or signal pretty much out the box too, I was going to volunteer at Bodmin but my missus hated the place (I didn't) and forced us to move to Dorset :(
Great video!! Are you planning to use 6435 on any auto trains this year once she has come of hire to other railways and are you planning to start overhauling 4247 once 5552 come out of the workshop??? Thanks for your help!!
6435 will be away on hire for most of this years operating season, though once she returns she may haul some auto-trains but she is getting pretty close to the end of her 10-year ticket. 5552 is still undergoing her overhaul and will probably be out later this year all being well. 4247 then may go in once 5552 comes out, depending on our operational requirements.
@@bodmingeneral5480 ah cool, it will be nice to see 6435 running after all her repairs, and it will be nice to see 5552 running aswell. Hopefully 6435’s overhaul won’t take to long due to the work taken place on her.
Hmm pulling levers like that spells doom for the brass interlocks, s'posed to pull firmly and cleanly as sooner or later if the interlock billets don't prematurely wear the lock plate the lever pulls against will wear and then the lever draw will overpull upsetting a very delicate system of levers, rods and cables down the line. Put the lever into the belly holding with both hands and walk it firmly back til it locks, your S&T dept will thank you.
If you have any questions you can ask us here! Also if there's anything else you'd like to see let us know!

Dunno if Mike and Emma are still involved but do convey a hello to 'em as it was me they exchanged with back then.
Very interesting presentation! Well done.
I was always curious what that bottom room was.
I hope they don’t knock the old signal box down in the town I used to live in.
Has the panel been updated for the new track layout for the new platform, or is the trackwork and signaling still to do?

If you pull a signal as hard as the one in the opening sequence you'll eventually end up breaking the drive rod. Be gentle with it!

you lucky bods can't figure out block signals!
