I loved Dragon Age 2 as well, it breaks my heart to see people speak so poorly about it.

It deserves a lot of the crap it gets just not for the right reasons.

All its flaws, yet it is just so enjoyable to go through. Just finished a playthrough 😁

Finally someone giving DA2 some love. I truly think it gets the most flack because it isn't DAO. It has the best *personal* character story in the series, and while the combat is "dumbed down" from DAO, it still managed to keep a balance between action and strategy while DAI threw the latter out the window.
I also liked the DA2 elf look because they looked more like a different species than small humans.

What do you mean the best 'personal' character?

I have to agree that this is my favorite DA. I love them all, each for a different reason but this one has the best companions, and what I think is the best story. That's what I look for in these games and it delivers in spades

As a neptunia player my brain has been broken and I am no longer able to register reused maps, so it thankfully doesn't bother me.

I was so disappointed with this game when I played on release. now that my older, more thoughtful self is playing through them again, I think it's my favorite. What a great story.

Nah Origins had far better writing.

@@adeptdamage3669 They're all pretty childish with how their written. It's hard to say if one was way better than another. I just liked how 2 was just as much a story about Kirkwall as it was about the champion and the amount of time that passed in game allowed for a much broader change in character progression.

      @@mrspaceman2764 How was Origins childish?

    • @mrspaceman2764
      @mrspaceman2764 3 ปีที่แล้ว

It was dark but there weren't any jokes, situations or characterizations that a 10 year old wouldn't understand. It's not the writers fault, most games are written to appeal to as wide an audience as possible. It's not Tolkien. Not that a 10 yo would have the patience to play Dragon Age. My point wasn't that Origins was childish but that all of them are. So are 98% of all video game stories.

Interesting points! I'm interested to hear your points in the following videos.
DA2 was made during the "brown is realistic" era of video games, so it makes sense that some of their environmental designs were.... less than exciting. If you haven't already, I recommend reading Matt Rhode's old art blog, specifically for the Darkspawn. It gives you some understanding on why they made certain design choices. Then again, understanding development choices doesn't negate your opinion-- it's more of an explanation for why you hate what you hate.

Thank you! Just that first sentence summarized exactly what i feel about this game.
I dont care that the community generally hates it and i know all of its flaws, but i loved it!

Pro templar Hawke gave a friendly romance with Fenris. Both Merrill and Anders hated me. Varric liked me same with Averline and my sister Bethany liked me but Isabella left me(I'm replaying the game to romance her so she can stay with me because I'll need her quest for the supplier and master craftsman achievement and friendship with 4 teammates achievement as well)

Enjoying your video as much as I despite DA2 which is quite the accomplishment
Thought I like to not I am not a fan of the rivalry/friendship system as it punishes moderateness or ambiguousness on one hand while all the characters will stay in Hawke's orbit even if he is cruel and abusive to them. From a story telling perspective I find that among the worst element of the game. There is so many unhealthy relationship that should be ended, escaped but no mechanic to do so. Yes the DAO could be gamed but the characters weren't so beholden to the protagonist and could and would put their foot done if your actions violated what they held sacred.

I do agree that there should be opportunities to cut ties with followers both from their side and the players. But one easily overlooked feature of the rivalry system I think, is that you can be a rival with someone without being cruel or abusive towards them. You don't have to chose the aggressive options, just disagree with them. Maybe you're trying to keep Merril away from the eluvian for her own safety. Isabela's rivalry in particular can be more about pushing her to be a better person, and she'll even thank you for that in the end. Accepting a slaver's ship might have made her happy, but it isn't the right thing to do, and she acknowledges that. Likewise a rivaled Anders will realize that he isn't rational any longer.

Unpopular opinion, but i personally think that dragon age 2 has the best characters though of course with a few exceptions.. *clears throat* carver..

How did DA II strip the game of strategy?... You must've mistaken it with Inquisition. DAII has better strategy than Origins. Objectively better tactic system, class synergy and class design makes sense for their role this time. Also the difficulty makes strategizing necessary, instead of just clicking another one of 6 kinds of healing pots with 0 cooldown.

This may be a point that comes down to individual taste in game mechanics. Even then, the idea behind certain mechanics might be sound but the overall execution is lacking. The combat across the series has problems and high points that vary game to game.
With that said, the video was never meant to focus too heavily on mechanics but the game as an overall experience.
It may be something we revisit later though. We'll see.
