In the 1970's I lived in a very small South Dakota town in South Dakota and listened to the CBS Mystery Theater on WNAX radio. I really looked forward to these outstanding radio plays!
As a kid in Fairbanks, AK I was a regular listener of this show. Until the local station changed formats. Oh, how I missed it! That creaking door, and the original narration. "I'm E.G. Marshall." Yes you sure are, baby. Thank you for uploading these.
Many old time radio shows are available in different formats on otrcat.com. Depending on the show, I can get 40 hours on one MP3 CD for my old MP3 player for $5. These are nice to listen to, except they are not portable. Or at least I don't know how to download to my phone etc. Better here because they are free.
Cold winter nights...time to pull the bedclothes over you with ghost stories and fantasy! Perhaps two radio play ghost stories I’ve produced AND a brand new mystery listed on my channel “Claude Chabot Presents” right here on YT AND a radio fantasy comedy, “A Trip to the Moon” starring Joyce Randolph of The Honeymooners, which features Larry Robinson, who, as a child actor, actually worked with Orson Welles. Here’s the link: th-cam.com/video/Hex2ltykNTM/w-d-xo.html--Claud. If you don’t want to click the link just search “Claude Chabot presents” on TH-cam.

This one was the one that started it all off and thank you for the uploads as they have been such a good tonic to me of a nite and for that I thank you!!!
I remember going to bed as a teen, listening to my pocket radio. There was a channel out there somewhere that broadcast episodes. Fantastic stuff. Lets one use their imagination rather than watching television.
mriordan53 when i was recovering from eye surgery, i found some great re-runs of old radio shows on AM radio. i loved them, and i love them even more now! i wish you good health, my friend! take care! :))
Hell yeah, this is the stuff that freaked the crap out of me in the 60's, bless your heart for posting it David Van Pein!!! All subscribed and belled. And bless your heart. At least while my heart holds out with all these scary stories!
Interesting link about this great show on Wikipedia. The actors were paid a surprisingly low $73.92 per show. Writers made $350 per show. Sadly, Moorehead died of cancer only 4 months after she appeared in this.
@@soylentteal Might have depended on the party. I mean, I've seen many options over the years and I'm nowhere near Hollywood. If I were? Who knows whose bed I would have ended up in. I mean, in the late 70's to late 80's, there were often 3 to 6 people in my bedroom, so who's to judge? Certainly not me!

I am sure it is very easy to Google but I feel the desire to say it here anyway. FYI for those who may not know, Agnes Moorehead played the character of "Endora" on the old television show "Bewitched". She was a really impressive voice actress, as well as screen and television.
Today is the *45th* anniversary of when CBS Radio Mystery Theater made its debut. My father was 16 and my mother was 12 at the time. 🤓 EDIT- 3:15 P.M.: *finishes video an hour and 30 minutes later* This was the second episode of the show that I listened to. The first was "The Summer People". I listened to it on October 25, 2018, the day after the *43rd* anniversary of when it first came out.

***** No. The 1974 dates are correct for "CBS Radio Mystery Theater". There were 1,399 episodes aired from 1974 to 1982. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CBS_Radio_Mystery_Theater
1974 is the correct date. Hyrum Brown (I think he was behind this) was trying to revive radio drama as a viable entertainment option and CBS radio gave him a platform to do it from 1974 to either 1980 or 1982...and Sears was behind a completely different attempt at reviving radio with a different format nightly, on a different network (I think it was Mutual, but that could be way off)
Love ❤️Mystery Theatre 🎭 listened to this when I was 16 came on at 10:07pm each night...I would fall asleep listening....so happy to fall asleep listening again...:just like old times! I love listening!!!
These shows are from the 1970's. I don't know why some of you can't just Google CBSRMT and see for yourselves it is NOT from the 1940's. Good grief!!!!! Everyone who knows radio shows should know that.

I have a vague recollection of an episode involving wallpaper. The realistic pattern came to life(?) Am I remembering that right? Anyone? A jungle design, and soldiers(?) lost in it(?)
+Jack R. I think you're looking for "The House on Chimney Pot Lane". At 1st I thought you might be referring to "The Yellow Wallpaper" (Agnes Moorhead does an amazing job in it)..but when you mentioned a jungle I'm pretty sure it's the Chimney Pot Lane story. At any rate they're both great stories!

The fear you can hear. Why can't entertainment be like this today.
Because people have allowed themselves to become moronic, their senses dulled.

What a fabulous way to open up this radio broadcast back in 1974 by have Agnes Morehead on board. 💟
