Wrecked Vulcan 1500 Rebuild/Bobber build

- I bought a wrecked Kawasaki Vulcan 1500 for $1000 on Facebook marketplace, it needed a lot of repairs and modifications. I repaired all the damages and chopped off the subframe to modify the frame for the bobber conversion, Over 10 hours worth of footage in 40 mins enjoy.

It’s refreshing to see a young man who’s stacking dimes with a tig and not just using a mig because it’s easier. Not a big fan of the bobber look but to each his own. I’m working on restoring a 96 Vulcan 88 vn1500

when started watching, the motorcycle mechanic in me started screaming your ruining the bike, in the end, im super impressed in the little details you even took into account great job.
Lol yeah, I was trying to spend as little money as possible and I owned this seat and headlight for like 2 years so decided just to do what I can.
Love the bobber build! Two more things I would have done: small rear fender and exhaust wrap.

Exhaust wraps are a great way to trap moisture against the headers and promote rusting.
Maybe different forks with spring shocks up front.

That was really well done, the restoration of it mechanically, the new aesthetic on the finished product, and the video production. 10/10 would watch for 40 minutes again.

@@Benjamminoutdoors It worked. The pacing was good. You showed all the elements of what you were doing and how you did. The speed up footage and background music worked. I think if you had left much more of it out it would have been annoying to notice something in the finished bike, like say how you redesigned and welded up the footpegs, and realize that was missing from the build section. This was a big project with a lot of parts. For me, I liked seeing how the work is done, so all the detail is almost as important as the reveal at the end. Definitely look at your stats about how much of your audience bailed or fast forward through which parts. You're not going to make everyone happy, so pick the type of viewer/video you want to make, that you get good response from and do that well. There's a place for longer form if that's what's working for you. Looking forward to more.
You should upload the 10 hour version sometime... that was awesome.
Not a lot of people know about the wire brush bristle to clean jets, you surprised me on that one. Good to see.

great job, that's how i used to customize my bikes when i'd get them. only i couldn't weld but you did good. really enjoyed watching you work with your hands, didn't even notice the background noise(music) play what you want just keep building. made an old guy proud.

I have to tell you this is the first video of yours that I've watched and I have to tell you I am absolutely thoroughly impressed I really love motorcycles but what I love more a kid no disrespect intended I'm 54 years old I have children your age I'm sure you're not far off for my kids ages and I have to tell you I'm watching what you doing and your willingness to get out there and try something and learn something new and figure things out and not just sitting there hiding and playing on a computer all day you earned a lot of respect for me right there the work you're doing on that bike is killer most people twice your age couldn't do that keep pushing and I'm telling you if you love stuff like that you can make it darn good living at it, I know people that would pay right now to have you do what you're doing to that bike to theirs keep it up young man I wish more young people could follow what you're doing and be able to put for that effort or even want to put forth the effort to do something for themselves I think it's awesome and I hope you'll tell your parents that I said damn good job people damn good job

Thank you so much for taking the time to video the build. A man after my own heart. A driveway build with no "lift" or fancy tools (other than the TIG welder). I am impressed. One critique, if I may. A couple of coats of primer and some wet sanding before painting would have made for a better paint job.

Tip on getting that dent out of the tank, seal off fill with water and put in freezer, check on it every hour until it’s popped. if you put to much water in it could crack but that ca be fix by welding.but ideally if you keep checking on the tank you should be able to prevent. Works like a charm, Used it back when i raced motocross for dents in my exhaust pipe on kx 125 and 250 back in the day lol
Yeah that would have been nice! But I don’t have a chest freezer, my freezer is too small for a tank of this size

I'm a fan of any motorcycle, but bobber hasn't always been one of my favorites. Having said that, you did a great job and I think it looks really good. I wish I still had my ironhead sportster because I kinda want to try building my own bobber now lol

I see a lot of myself in you.. I also resort to improvising. I often get to work on my motorcycles with minimum tools and with parts scavenged from the junks of motor garages.. Great way to put one's signature to a build... Thanks for the wonderful video..

got to lower that seat all the way down and put a rear fender onto the bike so it has a smooth flow back down to the rear wheel.. the back half really just drops off a cliff with the seat being so high. its one of the main reasons the Honda shadow vlx makes such a good and easy bobber conversion. the fake oil tank under the seat if the seat it put smack down on top of it is perfectly in a descending line with the top of the rear wheel making a smooth flowing line/ profile from the gas tank all the way back down to the top of the back wheel.
You might be able to lower the rear shocks to accomplish something similar without adjusting the seat height. Ive seen some people move the top of the rear shocks mounting points anywhere from 2 to 5 inches forward to also adjust the rear. Not sure if it has much room as far a ground clearance would go with the vulcan. The virago bobber conversions have a similar problem as well.
Dude you did an awesome job and the video was very thorough. I’ve built a lot of bikes over the last six years, mainly bobbers and I noticed a lot of the methods I use, you do too. I’m about to start another build next week I’m calling project “Bad Company” she’s a 94 Suzuki vs 1400. Keeping this one though, promised myself I wouldn’t sell it.

@@Benjamminoutdoors that’s a great idea, I wouldn’t mind seeing that. You’ve a talent for it for sure, I’d love to have a small business doing this kind of thing but I doubt there would be much call for it here in the UK. The weather goes against us here near the Scottish border.

I am the original owner of a 97 "Vulcan 88" that still runs like a champ and looks like it just rolled off the factory floor. That 1500 powerplant is bulletproof. It used to be called BUBF, butt ugly but fast." I made some mods to improved the appearance. In '97 the 1500 was the largest displacement production engine you could purchase. Mine is the 4 speed carbureted.

All in all a good build . But as a professional mechanic I do have one complaint . Marettes are not the correct method of joining wires in any vehicle application . The wires should be soldered or butt style connectors with shrink tube on them are the preferred method . With the vibration of the motorcycle a marette can come loose and fall off exposing the wires .

Your bondo job was ok, just needed to feather the edges out better, and would have been better if you had etched primed it and then primed it before the coloured coat.
Great job. Need some kind of baffles for back flow. Bad for motor without it.

i have to agree. the spring saddle is un necessary with tbe rear springs still working. you would get a better look with a regular saddle.

Remarkable! Just some low short fenders for me.
The first thing i did when i bought my '96 classic was to change the plastic oil gear ,that way ,i wouldn't waste all the time and money i spent restoring her by wrecking the motor.if ever it failed.
