Wow, what a blast from the past! I was the train bearer/page boy in white shirt and black tights in the danced sections. I was 13 or 14 at most around '89/'90 when this was filmed. The lead dancers playing Melisenda and her beloved are none other than Jeannette Zingg and Marshall Pynkoski, co-founders of Opera Atelier. Brand new when this Rhombus Media production was filmed in Toronto, Opera Atelier is approaching its 40th season ( 2026). I danced with them for 35 years before retiring in 2021. Dancers were, as best as I can recall: Jeannatte Zingg (Melisenda) Barbara Szablowski Karina ?? (memory fails me) Marshall Pynkoski (Melisenda's Knight) Roderick Johnson (The Moor) Antonio Francisco (Rival to the Knight) Carl Strygg (The King) Jeremy Nasmith (A Pageboy) The singers are listed in the description.
scarpia64 Many thanks from Lima, Perú. I like Falla's works. I saw a mise en scéne of El Retablo when I was a child, in 1977. I'm a violinist, and played the 2nd violin part of "Nights in the gardens of Spain" in 1989. By the way,... the violinist maestro at 01:07 looks a little bit like one of the puppets of Master Peter's Show, isn't he? =D Many thanks again!
THE VIOLINIST IN 1:07 JUST HAPPENS TO BE THE GREAT CANADIAN MEZZO-SOPRANO MAUREEN FORESTER'S FIRST HUSBAND...ALSO CANADIAN....YES ...A VERY EXPRESSIVE FACE ...AND A GREAT GUY.... Justino Diaz
