It was a surprise to find out he'd asked for the marriage because of love, causing his deep disappointment that the FL wouldn't agree to marry him until she got the shares. He allowed this disappointment to dictate his bad treatment of the FL during their marriage, ruining any chance for shared happiness.

After reading and I realized who it belonged to, I was shocked. She was from a very affluent family and was being forced to marry into another affluent family. In the diary, she dreaded it, she couldn't stand the touch of the husband to be, as he was a womanizer. It was one of the biggest wedding in the town. She lived miserably for several years before she got a divorce. So this happens in real life where the woman don't have a choice of being sold like a commodity.
The male lead is clearly scum why is she the one being held accountable for his behavior.
