As a British person, can I just say that Rainbow Rowell writes British soooooooo well?! If I hadn't known, I'd think she was British! Didn't think much of Red, White and Royal Blue, though. I thought it was too American! 😂😂
Kat, you don't know how happy it makes me seeing a video like this from you!!! I'm an OG, started watching ur videos when I was 13 ❤ now I'm 26 and started reading again!
Best feeling is seeing a favorites list with half books you love and half books you've never read haha. Evelyn Hugo, Hunger Games, and Time War are some of my all time favs as well, and Carry On and Mistborn were great, especially the magic systems. It's so nice to see some wlw novels make other people's lists. Some of my similar favs (of many) are The Priory of the Orange Tree and the Burning Kingdoms series!
So excited for When the World Tips Over. I'll never forget the first time I read I'll Give You The Sun. It filled my heart with so much warmth and hope❤
7:42 I've read The Stormlight Archive until RoW and there's still no way those books could replace Mistborn (Era 1) as the best of Sanderson in my mind. I really like Adolin and Kaladin, but Vin will be forever with me
Addie LaRue is my favorite of ALL times, the amount of times I have read that book is insane. The Infernal Devices is my ultimate favorite fantasy trilogy too, Cassandra Clare made the perfect love triangle. She created Will and Jem and I never looked back
I’m so happy you’re back! You always inspire me to read, write and make content I picked up most of your faves as I started watching you years ago glad to see some of them still here. Would love your thoughts on The crimson moth/ Heartless hunter, also S.T Gibsons work I wonder if you’d love their prose. ❤
Such a good list!! Some are on my tbr and this is really encouraging me to finally get to them. I was getting worried when you hadn’t yet got to Carry On and couldn’t believe it wouldn’t be there 😅
I think i just added four books to my tbr because of this lmoa. You and Christine helped shape my taste in books so Im pumped to read the few books off this list that I havent gotten to yet! Mostly the new Jandy Nelson lmao. I had to skip through most of the description because Ive inherited Christine's intense dislike of knowing anything about a book lol.
If you loved “Carry On” I recommend “Sorcery and Small Magics” it was very much Simon and Baz vibes and a magic school and enemies to lovers it was really fun
Sarah J Maas is queen! I agree ACOMAF is definitely her best book, but I will say Queen of Shadows (book 4 in Throne of Glass) gives ACOMAF a run for its money! It is so good! Heist, romance, humor, and tons of action! What more could you want?! I was sweating the whole book haha. Plus the finale to Throne of Glass does not disappoint. You will laugh, cry, and want to throw the book across the room!
if you haven’t read anything by R F Kuang, you must! it’s so unbelievably good, she is so unbelievably intelligent and you can really feel that across all her books, I think you would enjoy Babel or the poppy wars books more as they have more fantasy/magical realism!
i literally just bought babel last month because the ebook was on sale!! and i've had poppy war for ages but haven't gotten to it yet! this is definitely a sign that i need to move her books up the tbr!
"Perfect online presence" killed me 🤣 Yesssssss love The Hunger Games! I am fully ready to reread the trilogy (once again) this year right after Sunrise on the Reaping. Ughhh I still haven't gotten around to Strange the Dreamer. I know, terrible!!! The Night Circus has been my favorite book for years, nothing has been able to take its spot. The Girl who Fell Beneath the Sea by Axie Oh came out a couple of years ago and is likely my most recent favorite! I also adored Sistersong by Lucy Holland. Highly recommend if you haven't read them yet!
I predicted your number 1 and I was right! (bc I read it upon your recommendation and also absolutely loved it) 😅 also, I'm surprised The Murderbot Series wasn't on this!
haha good job!! i think most people guessed carry on would rank first, and it was close but time war is just INCREDIBLE. i'm so glad you loved it too! murderbot was def a contender, it would surely rank in the extended top 20 version of my list XD
Kat, I think my reading tastes are similar to yours in some ways, but different in a lot of ways too. I also have This is How You Lose the Time War in my top favourites, and I love Jandy Nelson and Laini Taylor. And ofc the Hunger Games, you will always be famous. If pressed to choose a top ten, I think this would be the list: A Month in the Country by J L Carr The Northern Lights by Philip Pullman The Charioteer by Mary Renault The Owl Service by Alan Garner Little Women by Louisa May Alcott East of Eden by John Steinbeck The Tombs of Atuan by Ursula K le Guin Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neale Hurston Skellig by David Almond This is How You Lose the Time War It's really great to hear you talk about books again!💫
I've really been enjoying the Sparrow Falls series by Catherine Cowles. I want to find a good fantasy series to sink my teeth into, but I've been too busy to make time. I'll have to carve out some time this weekend ❤
@Katytastic it's a small-town romance series that actually has the Best of Booktok tag. I don't really use Tiktok, but I saw a FB ad about the book lol
Totally agree on The Hunger Games trilogy! I just finished Catching Fire a few minutes ago and about to jump into Mockingjay!! It just a perfect lil trilogy! 🖤❤️💙
Such an astute observation on Schwab. I’ve followed her career for years on story premises alone. Addie LaRue is on my TBR this year, then Shades of Magic. The cover of Bury Our Bones in the Midnight Soil reminds me of Anne Rice’s The Witching Hour & the premise sounds like lesbian Louis and Lestat so, I’m hoping for some correlations there 😂
Have you ever read The Crystal Shard from R.A. Salvatore? Its one of my favorites, I do see a lot of people not liking the Legend of Drizzt series. He’s at like book 39 at this point, and I LOVE a series. Three Mages and a Margarita by Annette Marie is another fav, Misfit Pack by Stephanie Fox, Off the be the Wizard by Scott Meyer. Curious to know what you think. I am now adding these to the ever-growing pile of books I want to get to 😂😂
hmm i don't think i got up to the crystal shard, but i did read & enjoy homeland (and maybe book 2 of the prequel trilogy?) back in the day! i remember thinking the underdark politics were SO COOL. dunno why i never continued with it (probably just intimidated by the number of books lol) i'll have to look into those other ones too!
I was so sad we don't have any in common. I was so hopping Clockwork Princess would be here and that it would've replaced the one book I think is sooo overrated (won't say which 🤫). Still I'm interested in some from here. What do you think of the second and third book of Carry on?
clockwork princess was SO CLOSE to making this list, i really went back and forth a lot about it XD and while i do love the other carry on books, they don't quite live up to the first! super fun reads but just didn't give me the same high that og carry on did!
The most amazing thing about This is how you lose is that it seems to be a different book every time I read it: love story, political thriller, and so many more. 📖 💕 🕵️♀️
New video let's gooooo! We share so many favourites, I'll just have to follow your recommendation on When the world tips over, I guess. Poor me, having to break my self-imposed book buying restrictions 😁
Okay if you like Red White and Royal Blue you NEED TO READ The Nightmare Before Kissmas by Sara Raach. Kat it’s so good please, I’ve already reread it twice and I never reread
I am so happy there are new videos so regularly lately, I've missed these
‘Fool For Love’ rewiring brains is a cannon event
The glittery top is amazing
thank you!! i have nowhere in real life to wear it, so i have to glam it up for youtube XD
I was shook when there was a book coming up *after* Carry On! This is How You Lose the Time War is so great though
So excited to see you back in the booktube world. ❤
💕
If you ever do decide to reread throne of glass and finish the series I feel like kingdom of ash is a great finale!
ooh that's good to hear! i definitely want to reread & finish the series, it's just gonna take SO LONG and there are SO MANY other books in my tbr XD
I was there for the Carry On obsession lol. Miss those years!
As a British person, can I just say that Rainbow Rowell writes British soooooooo well?! If I hadn't known, I'd think she was British!
Didn't think much of Red, White and Royal Blue, though. I thought it was too American! 😂😂
omg kat!!! you look SO good!!!
Saw the title and I knew that Carry On would be in it lol.
lol it's basically the "free space" in the kat's faves bingo card XD
I feel like I've been transported 10 years ago while watching your videos and how I fell in love with books! Thank you so much for coming back!
i feel like a teenager again watching this omg!!! booktube nostalgia is real
So glad The Hunger Games made your favorite books! They are my favorites as well! Cannot wait for the new book, too! I’m tired of waiting for it. lol
lol seriously i am counting down the days! (just 42 to go!!!!)
@@Katytastic🎉🎉🎉

I just read Mistborn for the first time and is my first time reading Brandon Sanderson and the way you describe his writing is absolutely on point

hmm interesting, i wonder how i'll end up ranking them! mistborn really is SO GOOD though so i def understand you favoring it XD

completely agree w queen of shadows ranking just behind acomaf! hmm maybe rereading throne of glass series will be worth it for that reread alone XD
Do it!!! 😂❤

have you read any alexis hall? a lady for a duke and rosaline palmer are my faves
i've read 'something fabulous' and it was such a fun romp! been meaning to read more by them!
I recently reread The Hunger Games trilogy and honestly it was so much more impactful as an adult
I also adore Carry On❤❤❤
I’m ready to enroll in your hypothetical creative writing course lol
