As airplane travel becomes even more unbearable (unruly passengers, squeezing ourselves into smaller and smaller seats), and remote work becoming more common, train travel in The United States could see a resurgence. I hope so!!! I love traveling by train. So relaxing and comfortable. There’s room to spread out and the view is more interesting than the view from an airplane. I am crossing my fingers that Americans will support a more robust train system in this country.
Here in Europe trains are a great alternative for the exact reasons you mentioned. High speed lines can get you to cities in different countries in hours. I think the US should consider it but we live our cars.
My fear is they will want it to go full electric or fully off for "climate change". Black smoke is scary to liberals.
The only hope I see, is if Biden at least stays for another four years. Trump wants nothing to do with trains.

It's because Amtrack is run by the government. We need more private train services. If it's subsidized, there's no incentive to make it nicer. I'm 55 and Amtrack trains look the same as when I was 5

The best American train ride would be in 50th place compared to Europe. It's the one area that the U.S. is woefully behind in. The views may be nice, but the amenities are government run garbage
