I'll always find iconic that Drew was supposed to play Sidney, Scream was meant to be her comeback of sorts, but she told Wes it'd be a lot more interesting and impactful if she played the first girl instead and died in the opening scene, and she was right because the impact that had, the slayage of the century, it topped the charts, it forced all the other girlies to quit the industry, she won every award, she ate.

The original Scream is SO GOOD. Most of the performances are on point and the dialogue and framing is so self aware. It's peak irony-fueled late 90s

I think it's notable to say that for those of us dusty oldies who experienced Scream when it released, this was like Drew's "comeback film", which made it EXPONENTIALLY more shocking when she bit it in the opener! It was EVERYTHING watching it in the theaters!!

bit of a potentially unpopular take, but I really liked Scream 4! I always liked the Scream franchise because it mixed horror and thriller with comedy, and when I got to see S4 in theaters it did not disappoint.

I'm old, so I got to experience Scream when it happened. There are no words to describe how innovative and shocking everything about it was. We were all screaming at every twist and reveal. The opening scene with Drew had jaws on the floor.

I wish I liked Riverdale more than I do because I do enjoy the fact that they've cast so many former teen actors from teen shows and horror shows specifically and I think that's a fun nod. I skipped school to watch the first screening at my local cinema back in Feb 1997 (it came out to Oz a few months later than the US) It was 10am and only 5 people were there. I sat towards the middle and everyone else was behind me. Felt like I had my own personal screening. It was amazing. Went back with friends and a packed audience and it was still amazing.

I’m pretty sure there were 80’s slashers that also had more than one killer. Bloody Birthday (1981) had three killer children. But I do know Scream had taken a bit of homages from 80’s slashers. Also, Kevin Williamson came up with Scream and did 2 & 4 as well, I Know What You Did Last Summer, and rewrote The Faculty (which you need to watch, underrated gem and really shows why Williamson ruled 90’s horror), so Wes Craven only directed and honestly didn’t want to at first.
Also, you need to watch Jawbreaker, because that movie is your spirit animal!
