I was so on edge here I remember even getting jumpscared when the teensies would freeze the game and talk to you directly once you got thwacked by a knareen
When you're very young you're a bit less skilled and use less logic to analyze and solve problems. As a result the Longest Shortcut is my most hated level, I spent hours trying to complete it. Even if it took me 15 minutes at most last time, it's still deeply engraved in my brain how annoying it was. Now I like it because of the snowy level afterwards, that music is just so relaxing... and menacing somehow
Those Knaaren where the first thing i was truely scared of in a video game. Even after playing Silent Hill. You can't hurt them and the chase music is so sudden and loud, you can't help but panic.
0:18 Into the Deadlands 2:03 The Chasm 3:21 Panic - Chased by the Knaaren 4:49 Haunted - Carrying the Egg 6:16 Haunted - Zombie Chickens! 6:50 The Great Hall 9:47 The Knaaren Labyrinth 11:20 The Knaaren Labyrinth - Bone Corridors 12:31 The Knaaren Labyrinth - Spiraling Tower 13:43 Deadly Traps - The Toxic Room 15:43 Deadly Traps - Surrounded! 17:42 Reflux - The Knaaren Warrior 19:53 The Lavomatrix Twins 22:44 The Spinneroo
Source of nightmares for years as a kid, and I still get chills playing through this part o the game. The Knaaren frightened me so much, especially when they chased you, and the traps, the ghosts, and that statue level are some of the most stressful stuff in my gaming life.
For me the scariest (and surprisingly the only scary) part is when you fall into the ground and globox is captured. Then the music kicks in and there's a super narrow path and an invincible Knareen chasing me. Then, once I fell into the hole with the power up, I literally didn't dare to get out for a good 15 minutes because I heard them say scary stuff and then scream violently. I literally used the power up to scout as much as possible before finally ringing the gong and making a run for it. The only scary game that actually scared me without jumpscares, horrifying looking monsters, complete darkness or random sounds. Great job 👏
What a comparison hahaha. I absolutely loved the two first Abe games, I think the only thing that struck fear in my young heart were those leeches in the 2nd game
@@birddaddydetta Sadly I have played Exoddus way less. On the other hand I believe that Rayman kept some of that 90's flair (being in a surreal world and released in the early 00's).
Oki even when your video is simple mix of the sounds, I love it!! It's nostalgia! I'm a big fan of the Knaaren people and of Knaaren music and even tho I know every sound from that level it sometimes gave me jumpscare as the music kicked into chilling sounds of the desert XD I was listening to this while I was drawing fan art of Reflux on my pc. Good job!
This area scared me the most because to was the first time I felt helpless in a video game, while the Kanaren taunt you , you cannot hurt them and all you can do is run
Man the music that plays during the boss fight with the knarren leader was so scary as a child. It’s that weird voice that does it. This whole level was scary as a kid but that particular song stands out to me.
What scared me when I was playing for the first time was not the Knaaren look but one thing... *the fact that they are invincible* . Except for Reflux...
For me i kinda think that it wuold be better if they put 2 levels between the dessert of the knareen and the land of the living dead considering that tye gap beetwen the land of the living dead and clearleaf forest was filler
Ah yes, the childhood traumatiser desert.
Indeed! I got so, so many conflicting emotions when running into a hooded menace whom then drained my life as if it were their birthright.
It make young kids in 2003 have nightmares of they are sensitive not me though age 10 in 2003
I was so on edge here I remember even getting jumpscared when the teensies would freeze the game and talk to you directly once you got thwacked by a knareen
Oh same
I remember the feeling of relief after beating Reflux and fighting hoodlums again
And especially the Longest Shortcut that comes after.

Oh man, I almost wanted to hug them
6:16 Yep, that's the sound of nightmares

I felt that. Love it now. Kid me was not amused.
Because, the Knarren was undefeadet....

Nearly 20 years later for me, this still scares me. My dad's a legend, I asked him to beat this for me because it was to scary. He's the best.
CD2: lets have a fun and lighthearted adventure!
CD3: lets make you regret life as a whole.

The transitions are perfect
I stop playing this game for months when I was a kid when I reached that level because I was too scared XD
I got my dad to help me. He quit shortly after realizing that knaarens are invulnerable.
"Make him write bad checks" always tickled me playing this level
These soundscapes are rad
Excellent job on them!
thanks!
My favourite level of the whole game~
This feels like a 90's game like Abe's Odyssey visually but it was in the 00's

Loving the Soundscapes :) thanks for making them!

And they said Land of the Living Dead is a hellscape

I love your videos!!
Hey could you extend the start sounds before dead lands like it thank you
the best kind of childhood trauma ♥
What scared me when I was playing for the first time was not the Knaaren look but one thing... *the fact that they are invincible* .
Except for Reflux...
Nice lore error past self...
Anyway, Reflux is also invincible, but his magic staff is not, and damaging it can weaken and knock out Reflux...
The absolute fear I felt playing this section as a kid cannot be understated. That's probably why I never made it past this part as a kid lol
I like Rayman 3 Hoodlum Havoc it's my most favorite Rayman game I also like Rayman 2 but Rayman 3 is the best one.
Rayman Revolution PS2 is the best version of Rayman 2
@@RobertK1993
I like that one I even have it
The Valley Kingdom of The Vultures...
This level feel it a from a totataly different game it so different from Land of livid dead
For me i kinda think that it wuold be better if they put 2 levels between the dessert of the knareen and the land of the living dead considering that tye gap beetwen the land of the living dead and clearleaf forest was filler
