- Regrets? I've got a few...
Meet, Murray, my 2022 Africa Twin Adventure Sports. We've done some things and seen some things.
I'll do my best to tell you what it's like to ride and live with the AT/AS for just over 16,000 kilometres and nearly three years.
Murray is my mate, which makes it harder to admit to some of the bike's obvious deficiencies but being honest with each other is what true friendships are built on right?
Cheers, Damo.

Fantastic review. I've been waiting with bated breath for it. The accuracy and relatability of your analogies shows just how well you understand the products you review, your craft as a journo to simplify the complex, and your ability to convey that information to the viewer and consumer. That is the true art of communication.
Welcome back to my screen, Damo- I've missed you!
As a slightly older fellow Aussie I absolutely get, and enjoy, your language and nuance. Thanks for another beautifully filmed, well produced video.
Personally, I'm a "returning" rider recuperating from bilateral knee replacement, looking to get back on two wheels soon.
Do love the AT, it's probably at the top of my list, but kinda intrigued about the value proposition of the upcoming CF Moto MT-X...
I bought mine last decemeber. There is something special in Africa Twin. Greatings from Poland
There really is something in that name. Dzięki za obejrzenie z Polski!
Love your style! Humour plus detail certainly keeps my attention. Nice review, it’s on my radar for full open license time. Thanks mate
Thank you mate! Definitely give an AT a run. They’re a great overall package. But you’ve gotta give it a name!
@@advlife Bastard! Not you, the bike 😉
@@advlife Bastard! The bike name not you 😉 Keep up the great vids
I'll be buying a '25, in a few months. I'll be getting a Adventure Sports ES manual. Look forward to everything you can count on just working on a Honda, for years and years to come.
The ES is a great system 👍🏻 Good choice.
Remember, you’ve got to give it a name 😉
@advlife Oh it will. My Dad started that tradition with his vehicles, and I've followed in his footsteps. Glad to know that you and Ritchie Vida do this as well.
@Jeremiah_Johnson139 Your dad sounds like an absolute legend 👍🏻
@@advlife He fought fires and saved lives. None bigger, in my eyes.
Same configuration as me I picked mine up in November I'm loving it so far. I hope you enjoy the new bike ride safe and have fun.
😂 loved it!
What a year.. and you hit the nail on the head.. perfectly imperfect..
Living with a Super Tenere (“the Ox” two up travellers) and can relate… you get to bond with them when you work on them, punish them and when they get you there reliably..
Always look forward to your TH-cam videos.. a master at work and a funny ..ker!! Thanks !
Thank you mate. And for what it’s worth, IMO the Super Ten is one of the most underrated bikes Yamaha has ever produced. Such a great bike for the long hauls
We're in agreement about suspension importance and ease of use (or lack of) with electronics. A few months back I rode 5 different 900 ADV bikes over 2 days and the electronics varied from very intuitive to completely incomprehensive. It wasn't just me, the other 4 riders couldn't work out the interface on one of the bikes either, and not having the users manual with us we had to just give up and wear a hat. Being tall comfort is another thing I class as important and I decided I didn't like 1 of the bikes in about 10 minutes of riding due to the position the seat/tank junction forced me into. Love the vids, keep 'em coming. You should do one down this way, you know where I am.
Spot on Woz. It can useful - but only if it’s useable. There wouldn’t be too many windscreens tall enough for you mate!
I must admit .... I had to subscribe because I liked your music choices! lol. I guess the content is okay.. 🤣🤣🤣 Ty for great video!
Glad you enjoyed the video - and the tunes!
What a review 💪🏽👏🏽! Always had an eye on Africa Twin. Now it’s getting closer to the shopping cart. Cheers mate 🫣😉 greetings from Oman.
Good to see you again with the Africa Twin Adv. I really hate the brakes and hard/rock seat of my 23 Africa Twin Adv ES manual with almost 14 thousand kilometres, applecar is frustrating, stopped using it. I love my big heavy dinosaur, 100hp is more than enough..
I had the same initial experience with my CarPlay connection on my 2023 ATAS. However, I found that if you connected the helmet comms to the bike AND NOT the phone (delete it off your phone!!!) it connects faster and works perfectly all day long. Problem was the bike and the phone fighting for ownership of the helmet comms unit (Sena in my case) and eventually it would become unusable like you experienced. So frustrating!!!!
I now have a tiny wireless USB CarPlay adaptor attached to the USB on the bike and just leave the phone in my pocket. It connects quickly, is just as fast as the hardwired method and hasn't failed once in about 5000kms of riding. If the helmet runs out of battery or you aren't running a comms unit you can still use CarPlay by pressing and holding the RETURN button when the screen shows you a message about connecting a helmet. It then just launches CarPlay and lets you get on with things.
Took lots of research and messing around to discover all this. Should have been clearly outlined in the manual.
Cheers, AD
PS: I tried a few cables also but in the end it had nothing to do with the cable.
PPS: Great Video. I too love my AT and catch myself staring at it in admiration often.
Impressive production. Well done.
Awesome video indeed. I still miss my ATAS before she was taken from me in such tragic circumstances. We had so much fun together and yes, I did end up forking out for new suspension front and rear. She was a totally different bike after that. There' a good fix for the Apple CarPlay / Android Auto, get the wireless dongle, it works a treat.
Love the tyre combo, I was using that as well. Bloody awesome
That was a rough way to lose a bike mate. Hope you're travelling well!
@@advlife Very well now, it's just nice to be back on the dirt!

Absolute gold…Mazel tov big nuts…It’s not a home theatre system it’s a motorcycle…braided butt hairs of a Bolivian unicorn…road bike journos an irritable bunch particularly in the mornings before they’ve had their soy lattes 😅…missed you Damo. Funny shit aside thanks mate you’re the most entertaining but still one of the most knowledgeable adv moto journos out there 🤙
Cheers mate! 🙌🏻
Always look forward to a new video from ADVLIFE, awesome video, love your humor. My name just happens to be Murray and I have a 23 Africa Twin Adventure Sports ES DCT. He shall be named Damo. 🍻
That’s brilliant mate - and a good choice of name.
Another great video Damo 🍻🍻🍻
Thanks 👍
Exellent insight on the adv market today. Humor is perfect.Maybe we need more focus on components rather than electronics and hp. Did You try Adventure Sports 1000? That suspension is much more suited to off road and has more travel than new models. Maybe it is stiffer?
I've got the exact same bike. Review is very good. Got everything bang on. Funny dude as well 😂
I mean come on …. Is that not the best looking ADV bike …. Especially in black that thing makes you want to ride it
100% agree. Murray is dead sexy
14:06 how did you not feel the bug on your neck
I did. Was I trying to ignore it and the leach on the back of my neck. I freaked out as soon as I shut the camera off 😂
I totally agree with you on the suspension topic!
Best ADV presenter on here. Great stuff. What will you move on to??
No idea what will come next. My short list is too long ha ha
Very nice video! By the way, it seems hard to find the inner piece in the nature of Australia 🤣🤭. At least in frame of meditation 😂😂😂 May be it's better to ride the bike to get this meditative experience ☺👍 Good luck and warm greetings from Austria!
G'day Austria! Much safer to be on a bike here than trying be one with nature. :)
Thanks mate, great vid 👍
Cheers mate! 🙌🏻
Fantastic video mate! Stay upright 🙂
I had same frequent disconnection issue with my android auto on my 2024 AT. Bought a cheap wireless dongle and it fix it. I reckon it's vibration that causing the frequent disconnection. Never had a problem ever since i use the wireless dongle.
I had exactly the same problems with my CarPlay disconnecting, after a lot of discussion with the dealer, Honda finally decided to replace it, the whole unit. Hasn’t dropped out since
My dealer had zero interest in helping...or answering questions or serving customers - so I'm stuck with it. Bummer - it was a good thing when it worked.
Ahh that really sucks, Hopefully another dealer can assist. Apparently it’s a known issue at honda, so once the dealer tells them that you’ve tried new cables they should kick off the replacement. I told them that I use the same cable as in my car and it works fine there, it was enough to spring them into action.

You never said what year Murry was.. I'm guessing a 2021? Lots factory improvements for 2024/25
Another Masterpiece of a video! Or is it just because i own the same bike…🤔🤔🤔
Ps: a respring and a LSK off road dongle would solve 90% of those issues
a little bit of Allman Brothers Band in Africa Twin would be good though...
Good call. It's always good to have a bit of Allman Brothers in anything :)
Excelente video, tu estilo es unico... jajaja
gracias!
extravagant extraordinary entertaining highly informative report - LOVE IT!!
Could always just by a 2016/2017 crf1000L as it has no electronics apart from fuel injection, no abs, no traction control, no android auto, no touch screen, just 1000cc 2 brakes and a clutch, everything else is the rider. In 15 years all these bikes with all these modules will end up as scrap when the modules stop the bike from running. I have 70k on mine and keeping it forever for the simplicity on longevity. Mick
Seems like everybody gets the adventure sports model of this bike to review, not many of the base model unfortunately
Great video! Few and far between but I'll take the quality over quantity every time. Keep up the great work!
