Why does the scotrail rivery CLASS 170 has 3 car while the fourth rail 170 has only 2?

there are two types: scotrail is 170/3, while the fourth rail (EMT) is 170/2

​@thekaiser_21 no, the SR ones are /4s and the SWT ones /3s.
Basically 170s came in the following lengths:
170/1, 170/2, 170/3 mix of 2 and 3 coaches.
170/4 and 170/6 three coaches
170/5 two
