Don’t care if you’re a professional TH-camr you know what you’re talking about and made a video to help people out so nothing but a big thank you bro 👍 my sisters 08 328xi has a slight noise and she thinks it’s the transfer case but I’m leaning wheel bearing since it only seems to come from the drivers side.
Great explanation of symptoms. I have a 2010 528xi E60 and the car is jerking bad when start driving and looses power but it drives ok after until you stop again and the same thing happens. I thought is the axle and replaced the passenger one but lifting car up noticed jerking bad coming from transfer case ... so by what you are describing here seams like is not engaging or springs are bad.. any thoughts> thank you in advance!
sometimes flushing the TC (transfer case) fluid with OEM fluid will make TC to run smoother. You may notice some metal savings in the old fluid but this is the stretched internal chain of the TC rubbing against the sidewall of the case and does not require a rebuild of the TC assembly.
thanks for doing this video. I would call the xDrive Transfer Case as a "forgotten" part...heck I did and I do most of my maintenance on my wife's X3...changing Transfer case oil this weekend @ ~112K miles. No symptoms but I don't believe the BMW "lifetime fluid" malarkey!
I had symptom #5. I was getting the ABS, Brake and 4x4 dash faults. ISTA was saying Calibration Faulty and the case released 4 drops of fluid. Going to reverse was locking the wheels. I replaced the Transfer Case with 65,000 mile used unit and everything now works perfectly. Root cause of fluid loss was I went 20,000 miles past the maintenance interval, living in 118F Summer temperatures. The DTF fluid evaporation came out of the top vent pipe. 2010 BMW X6M.
Having looked at a few you tube listings for x5 transfer box issues, I would like to say your advise is first class, I assumed my problem was the transfer box plastic cogs as most say this is the issue ? on looking at your comments I looked further, and it was the control unit in the boot next to the battery, it got wet on connectors --- I had left the roof open and a rain shower discharge via drain tubes then got into lower boot. So a big thank you for getting me to look further.
Thanks so much man! Great video. If you can answer this, I would appreciate it. My problem: 2015 X5 N55: on deceleration the car feels like there is a kick from the back. It feels like rough downshifts, but the car actually is in gear in manual mode. Just feels like kicking from the back. I pulled the fuse out to test it, and it drove smoothly in RWD only. When I put the fuse back in, it started again with the kicking. After watching your video, I feel like it may have to do with the symptom No. 2 (stuck in 4wd). What do you think? Thanks a lot in advance man! Well, here’s an update: I replaced the gear oil in the transfer case, and the problem went away. So before paying a lot of money for expensive replacements, try simply replacing the oil. It worked like a charm, thank god.
Thank you for explaining all the issues with transfer case my husband recently had the issue with all the lights own someone told him to change just the black wheel, but you gave us a good explanation the owner before us disconnect the sensor for it and when turning it was holding the 4x4
Hey.. I have a BMW X5 2006 3.0 . Mechanics did a scan and still are clueless! Codes say 227 & 228 ( o2 bank 2 control deviation and o2 bank 1 control deviation.. ) Also I have 4x4 DSC Inactive light on suddenly! and I hear grinding noise underneath at hard stops like down a hill...(NO Abs lights on) I assume Transfer Case Motor or Gear ??? Or oil ???...It feels like brake locks on when I stop down a hill.. What could it be??? Also... My check engine light has Always been on for 3 years ( Map Thermostat code) but every mechanic told me not to bother replacing that part... Recently The car has trouble starting every morning and when low on fuel. !! Cranks but No start for at least 5 cranks... *Maybe Fuel pump Relay?? *Fuel pressure regulator?? *Fuel filter?? *Fuel Injectors ?? They cant figure it out!!! Seems the Fuel Pump is working.. I Went to over 20 car shops in 3 weeks and am really frustrated :( What could it be ??? They cant figure it out !!!
I’ve noticed your eBay page is gone. Any chance you have a rebuilt transfer case for a 2012 x6 50i? You seem to be the most knowledgeable person. You covered my symptom (jerking upon acceleration = chain skipping), whereas diagnosis wanted to just replace transfer case with a brand new one. That’s not in my budget at the moment. Thanks!
hello thanks for reaching out , you probably have atc700 here is our link www.ebay.com/itm/264870165757?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=VbZ7dEvgRQq&sssrc=2380676&ssuid=VbZ7dEvgRQq&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY
This is the most helpful video i have seen so far trying to find whats wrong with my car. I have a 2012 bmw 528i xdrive. It started by making clanking noise so took it to leschwab and replaced the cv axels with aftermarket ones(cheaper). The problem didnt go away and they suggested to put OEM but i dont think it is the cv axels because the car makes clanking/slaping noise even when driving streight. When driving normal there is no warning lights unless i floor the gas pedal and than it says "drivetrain malfunction" your output power is limited to protect.... at this point i have the feeling is the transfer case because it does the hoping symtom you described when turning all the way( like it is in 4wd). Do you have any thoughts???
@orlinbobchev i fixed the problem. It was the cv axles the problem. The mechanics was not seating the teeth of the axel on the wheel correctly. I put the teeth right and hold it while the mechanic tightened the bold and havent had issues in 3 years. The drivetrain fault was a different issue. My timing chain guides were broken and causing it to go out of timeing when accelerating. Had to change the guides and new timing chain. It's been running like a charm since
@orlinbobchev Bmw cv axles teeth are very small compared to other manufacturers, and if you dont hold them in , they will jump when you tighten the axle bolt
Great video...thanks alot. More videos please.... On turn, specially left, I hear clunking noise. On slowing down, hear clunking. If I start and push the pedal, then clunking. Is this transfer case. Can you get clunking from front suspension. Thanks
Helpful!!!! I have a 2011 X3 328i Xdrive. It gets stuck (ALWAYS around the first 10 minutes drive) when I stop at a red light or hit the brake slowly. Then I kick the brake pedal and it “unlocks”. Drive on a highway for miles and doesn’t do it again. I think it falls into symptom #5 of this video. Looking forward to replace that bearing. Thanks for the help.
Thank you, my friend. Extremely good information. I own a 2006 BMW x5 4.4i. and all three lights (4x4, DSC, and brake) I replace the speed wheel sensor on rear right) The lights were still on, then I replace the T.C. controller, and the 4x4 and DSC lights went off for two days, now are back and I replace the transfer case actuator, but I don't know how to calibrate it.and the lights still on. I know that is a smarter guy than me out thereso I hope you could help
Want to pick your brain on something. Over the last couple of days, on deceleration I would hear a rumbling vibration in the back end of my 2004 BMW x3 2.5i. Today, I was driving about 30 MPH and I heard a bang toward the rear of my X3 and then there was no gear that I could shift to. No "gear" light lit up on the dash, and I could hear the gears trying to engage when I shift, but it wouldn't lock up in park, or move in reverse or drive. No fluids on the street, but there was a little look of fluid on my rear differential. Could that be it? Thanks for your feedback, and please, keep making videos! You provide great detailed information!
Hello Arcan. Great job on this video my friend. I changed the gear in the transfer actuator from plastic to bronze. It worked fine but the next day those same lights came back on ( ABS 4X4 ) do I need to reseat it or maybe a fuse, what do you think, please?
Eric I own 2014 x3 and car is indicating that transnfer malfunction had a mechanic worked on it an he replace drive shaft but my car still make the same noise like a turbine sound almost like when a wheel bearing goes bad car shifts fine
Thanks for the video. I used your info to rule out transfer case for my "non-rhythmic mystery clicking rattle" at low speed. 2014 X3 does not have any of the other symptoms you mentioned so I'm going to look away from transfer case for now. Have a great day.
Did you figure it out? I might have a similar issue here. 2013 x3 have not very loud clicking noise around 10 mph. Usually happens when start after park or turn. No vibrating totally gone after speed up.
Hello, great video. I have a question. How to test the transfer case of 2012 BMW X5 xdrive 35i? It has a flat gear a size of flat screwdriver where the actuator motor mount on. Not sure if it should spin or has more tension . Thanks
Very nice video. I have e60. My actuator went bad and gears wore off. After replacing with some random amazon brand now I am getting that scenario 3 where it locks into on slow turns. Should I replace the actuator again or you think there is deeper issue? Note I did replace oil and did BMW replace oil procedure with ISTA that did something related to actuator. Also no codes found when scanning. And it happens only after about 40 min drive. Also not always just sometimes. And when I turn off my car I hear that loud sound almost like something dropping (assuming spring releases back)
Great video, thank you! I have symptom number 2 after going through water in a major flood we just had. Prior to that I had transfer case problems but it was the Reluctor Rings around the rear axles causing the rear abs sensors sending the wrong signals to the computer and Transmission, brake system and Transfer case. Drove me nuts. I just pulled the actuator motor out and had some water in there and in connector. The gears in the actuator are good. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
I took my car to a highly recommended place. Ever since they touched my car I’ve had so much issue. My car has a transmission flush, transfer case gasket and Axle replaced not I have vibration in my car. Only way I can calm the vibration if I turn on my fan. Today my 4x4 abs brake lights came on. I should of never let those Guys touch my car. Anyone reading this going to a high end places doesn’t alway mean quality work. It just mean you’re paying more for the location and name.
Great video dude! My e53 awd light was on when I bought the car 3 years ago along with abs light. I had T case oil replaced but it would not calibrate. Codes are 54C4 and 54C8. I did replace the resistor with a BMW original one, it says it is invalid! I use DIS software. There is no vibration when turning or anything. any ideas?
Hi my friend , my car has the simptom number 3 when I go over 50 or when I go slowly like wen I am in traffic, do I have to replace the whole transfer case or could be something else thank you
Thank you for the video. I am experiencing 4×4 light that stays on and I ve tried the steering and could not clear it. Your recommendations are greatly appreciated
5F3A transfer case internal (06 530xi 6 spd manual). 1st gear jerks back when rpms are low or at a low speed & you lay off the throttle, also you can here a clung when you stop accelerating feels like if it were a bad differential bushing??
Good video and thanx for your sharing. I have a problem in my e53 2004 (with actuator motor). The 4x4, abs and brake are lights on when the engine on (still off in contact position). The fault is 54c8 and calibration faulty always. I have change the second hand module atc and actuator motor. My mechanic also have open the tc and the condition still good. Please advise. Many thanx
Hello! I have a BMW f30 320xd, (WBA3D51010J476018), a few days ago I received an error on board (Driving Stabilisation), the car now only enters comfort mode and I have traction only on the rear wheels, after some investigations I found the following code: 48097D ( Transfer case - open clutch position, rear drive only), I mention that the failure occurred in the morning immediately after starting the engine. The car has no transfer case symptoms, does not stutter or make any strange noises. I replaced the actuator on the transfer case and it worked fine for 3 days after which the error reappeared on the board, I took the old actuator apart and found a swollen capacitor in it. Sincerely, Octavian
I have a ‘07 525ix. Since last week, I hear a whine while driving. I went to my mechanic and said it comes from the transfer case. Is it something bad? I dont have any errors
thanks for a great video. thinking of buying a 2005 x5 but dealer says bad transfer case. where the best place to get parts for this . I live in victoria BC Canada
Dear...i have a real vibration at 80km and 120km... I checked the rear driveshaft its ok balanced I checked the new wheels/rims and balanced them I removed the front drive shaft but issue still I checked the rear shaft convertor I dont know to what check...i thought it might be the transfercase but in your video you said its last unit may cause the vibration...if you have any idea i appreciate it. Thanks for the good video.
Hey great information . Would like to know the price for a front differential X5 2012 . Issue left axle came out and mechanics only replaced my axle , after two days driving , now they said is my transfer case
I have that symptom on slow hard turns i feel wheels where locking up . Couldnt figure it out till I saw this video. My 4x4 light comes on around 5 miles of driving whenever I start driving
I am in the the E83 Owners Group Too - That's how I found your video. Great video, very informative. You may not be a professional TH-camr as you put it, but you are a professional! You actually have content instead of click bait. I am getting intermittent ABS/Brake and 4x4 light. It's usually @ startup or immediately when shifting into gear. Other times it doesn't do it at all and everything working properly with no lights. I am getting multiple codes from transfer case malfunction to servo motor current measurement faulty. I have inspected the internal actuator gear and it is good. Wondering your thoughts on whether it would be a bad actuator motor or the control module. When it's a cold start I get the issue, after driving the car for a little bit and turning car on/off the lights clear and no issues. I'm stumped and don't want to throw parts at it. Again great video, you are an asset to the community - don't every apologize for being yourself even if you are a little sweaty or whatever. Obviously you have a passion for what you do and are thoughtful enough to try helping others by sharing your expertise. Thank you!
Question, I have an E70 in my shop now that has a no gears forward or reverse problem. You can select drive or reverse on the gear selector but absolutely no movement of the car. I can faintly hear something turning when in drive. Then select park and you can hear the park paw engagement and a gear sound winding down to a stop. I checked front cv axles and they are fine. Spin front tire when jacked up and front half shaft turns. Have you ever seen one of these transfer cases break a chain where there is no transfer of power from the transmission to the drive train? Has a code 5F3A for internal transfer case fault.
Only info I got from the customer was car was driving fine. Loaned car to friend to run to the grocery store and it left her stranded. No info if there was any warning, popping or a sudden snap sound.
@@kevinphillips4469 hello Kevin there could be a few issues but first thing comes to mind is output splines on transmission ( or housing for that splines ) or both in most cases are stripped its between tcase and transmission even the car goes into gear it can’t fully transfer power to transfercase so it turns shafts , it usually happens when people keeps driving with faulty transfer case and it eventually locks up while driving and messes that output splines on transmission
@@kevinphillips4469 one simple test to make sure that vehicle needs both transmission and transfer is try to push the car while shifter in P or try to park car down hill with out parking brake applied if car rolls , connection between transmission and transfer case ( transmission output shaft splines and transfercase input splines ) are stripped , broken chain would not do that specially if your rear driveshaft still turns which eliminates broken chain locked up tcase issue matter fact you wouldn’t have winding noise when you put it in drive anyways
@@kevinphillips4469 and that poor guy borrowed the car has nothing to do with it I can guarantee you owner already had bad tcase for a while now and been driving it like that
Sorry, but I must take issue with one thing you said: "The actuator only goes in one direction and is reversed by the powerful spring in the transfer box". This is not the case. The mechanism in the actuator motor is worm and wheel and cannot be turned back, no matter how powerful any spring is. The motor has to power in both directions to engage or disengage the clutch. In which case Im not sure what the function of the powerful return spring is. It may be to minimise any backlash in the system between the actuator and the clutch. I would appreciate your comments on this.
hello thank you for your comment ,but you are absolutely wrong i have spent so much time understanding the mechanism of this units looked into all the wiring diagrams etc , matter fact as of today i rebuilt over 500 tcase for german cars most europeans have same logic including range rovers , and yes plastic gear and worm gear will turn backward if you apply enough power with a pipe wrench or something that will fit tight inside the spline which i made special tool for it , if it's not turning backward then you have bad plastic gear in it that is sticking
Hi, thank you for your reply, but I have examined an actuator and no way can you turn it backwards. It would risk stripping the gear if I tried hard enough..The helix is too shallow. Plus, although I have not had the experience of stripping an ATC400 there is no sign of the powerful return spring mentioned being shown in any exploded diagram. So your explanation leaves me confused. Bearing in mind I am referring to the ATC400 as fitted to a 2006 BMW X3. Other models may well have a different design. There seem to be lots of contentious things said about the ATC400. My local BMW Indie here in the UK assured me that there was no point even looking at the ATC400 until I had fitted all star rated tyres first. This is clearly rubbish because all the wheels rotate at different speeds evertime you go round any bend in your car, so there is absolutely no need to have tyres all the same size to within a close tolerance. I am almost looking forward to stripping my ATC400 to see whats what in there! I would agree that its never a bad thing to change the oil in the transfer gearbox, and lots of people have stated that it has improved things in the box. I would be the first to admit there are elements of the ATC400 that I do not understand, especially how the control unit electrics work, and the significance of "readjusting the adaption values". Also how the resistor works and what it does. Presumably you can buy different resistors depending on the needs of the transfer box, but they only ever seem to be sold as "resistors" without any reference to different resistance values that might be available. BMW obviously think they have a winning formula with this box as they seem keen to use it on more of their models, despite it having a bit of a chequered reputation amongst customers. Maybe its just not robust enough when faced with clients who like to floor the throttle every time the lights go green. Another interesting question: does the box distribute power by the clutch being made to fully or partially slip all the time in which case you would think its lifetime would be measured in days or weeks, It would, if your main clutch was made to slip all the time.
👍 Nice job on the video. You explain very well and very thorough. If you wanted, you could easily be a pro youtuber. Your confidence will grow with every video because I predict people will respond well and thru that positive feed back you will be encouraged to do more and be more and more comfortable in front of the camera
I have a x3 3.0ld msport was driving it and it was making a nocking/clunky noise when it was changing gear then further up the road as I was still driving there was no drive just rolled and oil has leacked out what could it be oil has leacked at the front
We had to unplug the transfer case because the car shakes/shimmies, almost like a broken motor mount, but it goes away when transfer case is unplugged. It get's worse between around 20-60mph Car drives fine without transfer case plugged in.... obviously rear wheel only... and the 4x4 error... but this is expected with it being unplugged... Any ideas?
I'm in the orlando area and I'm looking to figure out whats going on with my 328xi and if I need a new transfer case. I'd love to ask you some questions about your shop location if possible. Great video and thank you in advance.
I also have the 328xi model and everytime i let go of the gas around 2k rpm the car jerks and it’s irritating i was wondering the same problem my transfer case after replacing tc fluid & transmission it still jerks. What happened to yours?
I have a 2019 740i BMW and recently i started feeling a “hesitation” from 1st to 2nd gear ⚙️ but then the car drives fine. BMW service department said it’s the Transfer Case so they changed the Transfer Case Fluid and said “You need to drive the car for at least 150 miles so the fluid can circulate better and if the hesitation doesn’t go away after that, then you need to Replace it and they said, it would cost me around 6k just for the Transfer Case and that doesn’t include Labor Cost…Anyone else ever had this issue?
Excellent video and you did a great job. Between all the comments below very few actually paid attention to what you said. Some of you idiots didn't listen when the man said...don't come up here with "well it sounded like this thump thump thump....and did a long hiss with a creak in the dashboard and then the sun turned darker after I passed the sycamore tree. Folks. Get your car scanned. Get the codes if you are going to ask a mechanic to give you advice on how to fix your car on youtube. How many of us use the link he posted? Ya'l lhave GOT to do better. Hell purchase a scanner at least.....before ya'll come up here wanting the man to take his GOOD time to give you direction to fix your BAD shit.
Can a faulty transfer case take all the drive from the rear my x5 has no drive what so ever from the back but the front trys to kick in until I turn then there is no drive at all.
Great video i have the first issue u metion lights come on after i drive but my car once i re start the car and start driving above 2000 rpm the light trio dosent comw on only the 4x4!
I am having hesitation on my 2013 335 f30 xdrive under load, no misfires on the engine side, no codes. The hesitation is more prominent when I put the car in sport or sport plus. A guy working at the dealership checked the car and said most probably it is transfer case(not engine or transmission). How can I be sure before I invest on one?
So mine has grinding noise bad and won’t wanna go. Is there any way I could try putting new oil and new actuator motor ? I towed it home and drove it off the trailer and it wasn’t locked up anymore or making the noise. Light are still on. I wanna fix it before I drive it and make more damage. I replaced the drive shaft in 2018
Hello i have a x3 2006 and i see your video the trasfer case and i cange the chain and i eliminate the issue but afther that i have a 54c4 and 54c8 and i want know if you have an idea cos some people speak about the sincro and other about the trasfer case module for your help i thank you and you have a lot experience about the transfer topic make more videos helps a lot thank you for you answer
So i have a 335i xdrive... clutxh is new cuz i thought it went out... So i had xdelete on... no power, but felt like the clutch engaged in all gears and reverse. Turn xdelete off, and it moves foward, but its very choppy and jerky.. and moves faster but feels like its slipping.. but its not.. Heres the catch, it will move foward, but when i turn the wheel left or right, no movement until the wheels are straight again... Could that be the transfer case or a sensor? Ps.. wont use xdelete again lol
Hi Erkan I have a 2008 X3 we had the common stripped gear and fixed that. We still have the yellow brake light and 4x4 light on as soon as we start it.I can actuate motor from the module red/wht and brown wires also have data. am I still looking at wire or module problem or inspect transfer case?
hello have you checked the actuator cam where actuator motor sits ? it wasn't loose right you shouldn't be able to turn it by hand ? also another problem , most cheap replacement gears made in china are bad , they won't function properly , i always use expensive made in Europe gears , i tried 20 different plastic gears found most of them faulty
After further diagnostic it has two codes from Restraint A1 and VTG 55C4 both have same code type "No message from DSC" which is anti lock brake module I assume. So I will follow up with those codes. Also have a code 04 set then clear but resets when turning steering wheel more than a have a turn LEW steering angle sensor code 04
Hello chief, Lmao. “The freaking, The Train.” My 2011 e90 328i xDrive is giving me ‘code error’ on my scan tool. Nothing on the dash board. car runs fine. The only symptom I have is a little ‘shuddering.’ But I don’t know if it is coming from that. But when I scan the specific code, the code says ‘code unknown.’ Please help and advise chief
Question(My 2007 x3): My transfer case was changed to a used one and it removed the ABS/Brake/4x4 lights from being on. Now I hear a scratching sound from the back that was NEVER present before. Do you have a professional opinion what could be happening or what could be checked?
Hello Erkan, greetings from Europe. BMW Scen code 5DEA : “Reduction of torque feed forward due to friction work in the VG. ( Transfer case: temperature)” I found Transmission Mount gone ( no Rubber left) Also opened the Actuator and Plastic gear is good. So what you think? Coz of bad mount !!! Thanks a lot Man
Hi can you help me please. I have problem with my Bmw e70 3.0 tdi xdrive 2010 .When i tour right or left side ,car start to make vibration most likely when engine hot And when i start from first gear to drive, car make little push and then normal. I changed gearbox oil Transfer case oil, but nothing changes .i hope you understand what i mean .Thanks
I have a 2004 X3.I have a "Clunking" sound when I go forward. When I try to back up, and turn steereing wheel in either durection, the vehicle wants to lock uo and not proceed in reverse. Can u advise?
Hi I have a 05 x3 and I belive the low trans fluid light comes on a gear symbol When the light is on the vehicle downshifts hard I know the trans fluid is full and clean. I've changed the actuator and the transmission control module. Then I replaced the transmission and it's doing the exact same thing any idea what I should be looking for to get this solved thanks
Hi mate my 2005 x3 makes clunking noise only when reversing normally when put foot on clutch what could be my problem someone said was non star rated tyres
Hi Erkan , I have 07 e83 x3 and I have a gear light on and not going away even reseting , it used to kick or I should say take off at a stop , what should I do
Hi Erkan, I have a question i have staggered setup of wheels on BMW F34. I want to change tyres from star marked runflats Pirelli Pzeros to Falken FK510 non star marked, 1to1 sizes as previous but some forum guys said that this could damage transfercase of xdrive ? but why? normal tyres non star market will have some much diff in circumference but when you use car rear are wearing quicer so some circumference diff are always no mater it star market I am right and I could install my new Falkens and try it out? what you expierience ?
It’s not about about oil brands or if one is better from other. Open transfer box and clean it properly otherwise even you change 10 times in a month the oil will not make any difference 🥰
Mine does this. Jerks like it's skipping a gear when taking off from a stop. Thought it was transfer case, so I flashed with xdelete to go rwd only. Still does same thing, I'm thinking transmission now. Ever figure yours out?
I get one time clunk everytime i take off. Doesnt matter do i leave with 1st or 2 gear. Clunk comes around 2000rpm with peeeeep and 4X4 light only, then the light goes off and on at low speed, at 70km or up all good.. can this kind be my transfer case? 5DEC is only code i'v ever got..thanks
@@ronaldslager1714 i did. It was rear ABS sensor. I chanced both of them, and one abs ring since it was the main reason why my sensor was bad( there was rust under the abs ring what coused the ring to touch abs sensor and to break it)
I tooked the car for BMW specialist, and he checked the abs sensors with scanner, and he sayd they are all fine. Thats the reason it took me months to figure whats the problem, so one day i ordered cheapest rear abs sensors just to test it ( because 5DEC code can mean "left rear abs sensor" in E83 cars.
when i'm driving my X6 4x4 there is a vibratiiom coming from under the car, I have a code 5F3A. I changed the actuator motor module. The fault light came back and start vibrating. when i jack up the car and let it down and start driving it ok. the next day i start driving the vehicle it starts vibrating again, Any advice?? or fix?? only vibrations problem
Quick cuestion I got a 2015 bmw 328i gt and we replaced the transmission for a used one but we noticed that if we put the steering wheel straight it moves foward or reverse but if we turn left or right it goes to neutral.do you think it might need the transfercase?
Hello first let me start by saying great video. I have a 2016 X4 28i and the problem that I have is that I get clumping and jerking while accelerating from a dead stop. As I accelerate the car it intermittently will jerk, clump or give a slipping sensation. The car runs great at higher speeds and no codes. I bought the car used and have never changed the transfer case fluid. What do you think this could be?
Finally! Someone who explained the transfer case and not just the actuator. Thanks man!
Finally a good video explaining the transfer case! Thank you. Keep up the good work.
Great explanation of symptoms. I have a 2010 528xi E60 and the car is jerking bad when start driving and looses power but it drives ok after until you stop again and the same thing happens. I thought is the axle and replaced the passenger one but lifting car up noticed jerking bad coming from transfer case ... so by what you are describing here seams like is not engaging or springs are bad.. any thoughts>
thank you in advance!

Codes say 227 & 228
( o2 bank 2 control deviation and o2 bank 1 control deviation.. )
Also I have 4x4 DSC Inactive light on suddenly! and I hear grinding noise underneath at hard stops like down a hill...(NO Abs lights on)
I assume Transfer Case Motor or Gear ??? Or oil ???...It feels like brake locks on when I stop down a hill..
What could it be???
Also...
My check engine light has Always been on for 3 years ( Map Thermostat code) but every mechanic told me not to bother replacing that part...
Recently The car has trouble starting every morning and when low on fuel. !!
Cranks but No start for at least 5 cranks...
*Maybe Fuel pump Relay??
*Fuel pressure regulator??
*Fuel filter??
*Fuel Injectors ??
They cant figure it out!!!
Seems the Fuel Pump is working..
I Went to over 20 car shops in 3 weeks and am really frustrated :(
What could it be ??? They cant figure it out !!!
Thank you for this video. It's the most thorough video I've seen and I've see dozens on this subject
4x4 light came on , lost power and started jerking for few seconds. Any one had this problem before?
I’ve noticed your eBay page is gone. Any chance you have a rebuilt transfer case for a 2012 x6 50i? You seem to be the most knowledgeable person. You covered my symptom (jerking upon acceleration = chain skipping), whereas diagnosis wanted to just replace transfer case with a brand new one. That’s not in my budget at the moment. Thanks!
hello thanks for reaching out , you probably have atc700 here is our link

my shit is gone I played drove it from Miami to homestead now my shit gone but ima rebuild it from scratch 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Hi, I have the same car and pretty much the same symptoms, without the error. Did you manage to fix it or find if it was the transfer case?
@orlinbobchev i fixed the problem. It was the cv axles the problem. The mechanics was not seating the teeth of the axel on the wheel correctly. I put the teeth right and hold it while the mechanic tightened the bold and havent had issues in 3 years. The drivetrain fault was a different issue. My timing chain guides were broken and causing it to go out of timeing when accelerating. Had to change the guides and new timing chain. It's been running like a charm since
Thank you, for the reply, first time I hear about that there is correct way to do it. I will check for tutorials
@orlinbobchev Bmw cv axles teeth are very small compared to other manufacturers, and if you dont hold them in , they will jump when you tighten the axle bolt
@@Vini.bra1981 very interesting, we are talking axle to the car tyre, not axle shaft thats going to the engine, right?
Thank you for taking your time and making this video
I need a transfer case to buy for a Bmw 528 I x drive 2010 how do I get it from you
hi we have links in description
That’s sounds like a cv axle for both of y’all
Hi, I have a judder but only when turning. It feels like the chain is slipping? Does that sound correct? Thanks.
CV joint
Wow dude you saved the day ! I have an X5 50i 14 I’m gonna email you right now
Hello, great video.
I have a question. How to test the transfer case of 2012 BMW X5 xdrive 35i? It has a flat gear a size of flat screwdriver where the actuator motor mount on. Not sure if it should spin or has more tension .
Thanks
hi i took the front shaft out and I'm driving bmw x5 e70 3.0d xdrive 2012 on rear wheel drive without any problem no light on dash
What about the tugging, missing, trailer towing feeling? No codes. No lights.
And when I turn off my car I hear that loud sound almost like something dropping (assuming spring releases back)
Did you ever figure this out?
Great video, thank you! I have symptom number 2 after going through water in a major flood we just had. Prior to that I had transfer case problems but it was the Reluctor Rings around the rear axles causing the rear abs sensors sending the wrong signals to the computer and Transmission, brake system and Transfer case. Drove me nuts.
I just pulled the actuator motor out and had some water in there and in connector. The gears in the actuator are good. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
What did you end up doing to fix this? Just had this happen to me after driving through some water as well 🤦🏼♂️
I took my car to a highly recommended place. It just mean you’re paying more for the location and name.
very useful and straightforward honest knowledge, thanks!
Great video dude! My e53 awd light was on when I bought the car 3 years ago along with abs light. I had T case oil replaced but it would not calibrate. Codes are 54C4 and 54C8. I did replace the resistor with a BMW original one, it says it is invalid! I use DIS software. There is no vibration when turning or anything. any ideas?
Wow. That was awesome, I now wish I lived in Florida.
Hi my friend , my car has the simptom number 3 when I go over 50 or when I go slowly like wen I am in traffic, do I have to replace the whole transfer case or could be something else thank you
On my e90 325xi when I start out I hear what sounds like medal rattling and at 20 miles I hear a whirling sound
Thank you for the video.
I am experiencing 4×4 light that stays on and I ve tried the steering and could not clear it.
Your recommendations are greatly appreciated
Did u get it fixed? If so what was the problem?
2010 E60 automatic transmission harsh shifting even from park to reverse or drive and all gears. Is it possible to be transfer case or not?
5F3A transfer case internal (06 530xi 6 spd manual). 1st gear jerks back when rpms are low or at a low speed & you lay off the throttle, also you can here a clung when you stop accelerating feels like if it were a bad differential bushing??
4X4 error/AWD Malfunction
Yep
Hello Erkan, I live in central Florida and my X5 transfer case needs service. I would like to have you repair it.
The symptoms you described clonking noise on turn and between gears is happening to my audi q5
Thats your cv axel making that clonking noise when ever you accelerate from a stop or turning your wheel.
thanks for a great video. thinking of buying a 2005 x5 but dealer says bad transfer case. where the best place to get parts for this . I live in victoria BC Canada
Thank you brother. I was able to fix my problem with your advice.
Dear...i have a real vibration at 80km and 120km...
I checked the rear driveshaft its ok balanced
I checked the new wheels/rims and balanced them
I removed the front drive shaft but issue still
I checked the rear shaft convertor
I dont know to what check...i thought it might be the transfercase but in your video you said its last unit may cause the vibration...if you have any idea i appreciate it.
Thanks for the good video.
Great I have problems in my car but the abs and break 4x4 show off if my speed 80 pass show on again but no front wheel so what is the issue.
Hey great information .
Would like to know the price for a front differential X5 2012 . Issue left axle came out and mechanics only replaced my axle , after two days driving , now they said is my transfer case
Watching the video my car does symptom like you mention that 4 wheel drive looks . Is there any way how to test the transfer case ?
Thanks in advance
@@kevinphillips4469 and that poor guy borrowed the car has nothing to do with it I can guarantee you owner already had bad tcase for a while now and been driving it like that
You sound great! Understood every word
Another interesting question: does the box distribute power by the clutch being made to fully or partially slip all the time in which case you would think its lifetime would be measured in days or weeks, It would, if your main clutch was made to slip all the time.
very usefull info, great video re bmw transfer case. codes 5Fc4 and 5Fc8 at the same time mean anyghing? I am trying to calibrate but no luck,
👍 Nice job on the video. You explain very well and very thorough. If you wanted, you could easily be a pro youtuber. Your confidence will grow with every video because I predict people will respond well and thru that positive feed back you will be encouraged to do more and be more and more comfortable in front of the camera
Best video that I have found. Great explanations.

It get's worse between around 20-60mph
Car drives fine without transfer case plugged in.... obviously rear wheel only... and the 4x4 error... but this is expected with it being unplugged...
Any ideas?
You have great info brother thank you following you 👌🏼
I'm in the orlando area and I'm looking to figure out whats going on with my 328xi and if I need a new transfer case.
Most people say it feels good to help another people. Does it🙏?
Driving on slow speeds and hard turnings it makes clanking noise down there, is it the chain or the bearings?
I have a 2019 740i BMW and recently i started feeling a “hesitation” from 1st to 2nd gear ⚙️ but then the car drives fine.
BMW service department said it’s the Transfer Case so they changed the Transfer Case Fluid and said “You need to drive the car for at least 150 miles so the fluid can circulate better and if the hesitation doesn’t go away after that, then you need to Replace it and they said, it would cost me around 6k just for the Transfer Case and that doesn’t include Labor Cost…Anyone else ever had this issue?
So when you talk about the drive line not turning does that mean the transfer case needs to be replaced? Or is it more than that ?
How can i know what fuse is the right to replace just in case was the fuse the problem
Great video i have the first issue u metion lights come on after i drive but my car once i re start the car and start driving above 2000 rpm the light trio dosent comw on only the 4x4!
Erkan i had symptom 1 and took it to BMW they are saying the transfer case if failing. What would you suggest?
I am having hesitation on my 2013 335 f30 xdrive under load, no misfires on the engine side, no codes. The hesitation is more prominent when I put the car in sport or sport plus. A guy working at the dealership checked the car and said most probably it is transfer case(not engine or transmission). How can I be sure before I invest on one?
tc oil was changed and did not make a difference.
Ps.. wont use xdelete again lol
you did a good job bro. thankyou for the info!
Hello chief,
Lmao. “The freaking, The Train.”
My 2011 e90 328i xDrive is giving me ‘code error’ on my scan tool. Nothing on the dash board. car runs fine.
The only symptom I have is a little ‘shuddering.’ But I don’t know if it is coming from that.
But when I scan the specific code, the code says ‘code unknown.’
Please help and advise chief
Question(My 2007 x3): My transfer case was changed to a used one and it removed the ABS/Brake/4x4 lights from being on. Now I hear a scratching sound from the back that was NEVER present before. Do you have a professional opinion what could be happening or what could be checked?
Hello Erkan, greetings from Europe.
BMW Scen code 5DEA : “Reduction of torque feed forward due to friction work in the VG. ( Transfer case: temperature)”
I found Transmission Mount gone ( no Rubber left) Also opened the Actuator and Plastic gear is good.
So what you think? Coz of bad mount !!!
Thanks a lot Man
Hi Erkan, if my transfer case broke, will it still make the clanking/grinding noises with the car in park and engine idling?
good afternoon I have a bmw 2011 x5 50i with a bad transfer case I live in Miami FL.
Hi, Should you warm up your car in really cold weather?
Good video with useful information Erkan, thanks.
Hi can you help me please. I have problem with my Bmw e70 3.0 tdi xdrive 2010 .When i tour right or left side ,car start to make vibration most likely when engine hot
And when i start from first gear to drive, car make little push and then normal. I changed gearbox oil Transfer case oil, but nothing changes .i hope you understand what i mean .Thanks
Thanks a lot you saved my day😊 Great video
Nice video! Thanks. Was wondering if a low viscosity synthetic ATF like Amsoil ATL is suitable for this transfer case?
Negative I wouldn’t run anything but oem in bmw transfer cases I’ve never had a issue knock on wood but I’ve heard they are very finicky
It’s not about about oil brands or if one is better from other. Open transfer box and clean it properly otherwise even you change 10 times in a month the oil will not make any difference 🥰
U got any transfer cases? 2006 330xi manual 6speed
How can we contact you directly for a rebuild
Is jerking motion with acceleration from the transfer case? No warning lights. No vibration.
Mine does this. Jerks like it's skipping a gear when taking off from a stop. Thought it was transfer case, so I flashed with xdelete to go rwd only. Still does same thing, I'm thinking transmission now. Ever figure yours out?
@@rgjr2207 I had the fluids changed in the transmission, transfer case and differentials and my X5 is now running normally.
Same here!!! Did u ever fix it?? Please tell me what was the issue!!!! No mechanics can figure mine out ..
@@ronaldslager1714 i did. It was rear ABS sensor. I chanced both of them, and one abs ring since it was the main reason why my sensor was bad( there was rust under the abs ring what coused the ring to touch abs sensor and to break it)
Sorry for my bad english😅
I tooked the car for BMW specialist, and he checked the abs sensors with scanner, and he sayd they are all fine. Thats the reason it took me months to figure whats the problem, so one day i ordered cheapest rear abs sensors just to test it ( because 5DEC code can mean "left rear abs sensor" in E83 cars.
@@mynameis309 thank you!!!!!! I hope they can figure mine out. I will ask them to check this sensor tomorrow!

What do you think this could be?
did you figure this out?
I have a 2013 BMW X3 , the dealer wants a crazy amount to replace transfer case... im in Florida, Fort myers...where is your shop?
