    I bought one of these, tried every other car in it's competition. Kia was the only one to give me all the features that you'd usually have to pay extra for all included in the price. AMAZING.

    The car here, LG61 WWY, passed its MOT in September 2020 with 65k miles on the clock after 9 years on the road. So it could still be out there, being all reliable and stuff.

    Got one recently and am calling it "pensioners car" :) Only because never drove anything below 1.6L and less than 115bhp. My Rio is 2016, 1.25l producing 86bhp (i think), so i feel taking off on a slow side. 1st gear is very short too, thats mean playing with a stick a lot in a slow narrow and hilly places where i live. But as soon as she's going is superb! On a cost of petrol side am doing between 35 to 40 mpg, remember folks in hilly narrow roads! Still 20 mpg more than my last VW Beetle (2004, 1.6L)!!!
    Very practical, very comfy and easy to drive and i love it! Will never come back to more saucy cars for sake of tax, insurance and mpg... Yes am almost 40 and start getting mid life crisis;)
    In the end it is lovely car, well build and doing its job very well!
    Was looking for newer car for almost 4 months, did my maths and research, and i choose Rio and am a happy bunny.
    Thanks Matt for yours honest reviews of all cars! Helped here a lot!

    Excellent review of a really good little car.
    I drove the 1.4 petrol and was really impressed how smooth and quiet it was, perhaps a little slow.
    I too can't stand the badge snobs who are stuck in the past and really have no idea, Hyundai/Kia are on a roll and are now making excellent cars.

    Bought my Rio 1.4 Tec about a month ago and I must say I am very impressed.
    The extras you get as standard are really awesome. Park distance Control, Electric Wipers, Electric Lights, Bluetooth, Climate Control, Leather seats etc... And it gives me 5.5litre / 100km (18.2km/l). I was completely sold when I found that the new Kia range were done by an ex-Audi engineer. And I can see that in the quality of all the finishing as well.
    Lastly, when I compare the price with other competitors, in South Africa, VW Polo, Ford Fiesta & Mazda 2, are between 10% - 15% more expensive. So the choice was obvious.

    My old best mate had one of these. He used to call it the sewing machine because you had to get the pistons going up and down very quickly to make the power. I borrowed it for a week and having had owned a Mazda 2 (and loved it) I found the car had some incredible blind spots. The dash instruments are nice, its quiet, warranty is nice. The brake assist is more of an annoyance for someone with good clutch control. The 1.4L 6spd was gutless. Good car but if fun is your thing, it's not for you.

    i actually already own this car, my first car and i must say, i love it, i have driven the Ford Fiesta and the Renault Clio, but i dont really like them, ok granted the rear window is a little bit of a problem same with the A pillar, but that being said, i find it harder to park in the other two, its great to drive, but dont expect the 88mpg, i drive as smooth as i can and cant even get that on the motor way, but i do get the high 70s in the 1.1 diesel, you get about 400-500miles of range in the tank, depending on how you drive and where, but be aware there is a few more problems with this car, for one, when you put the wipers on you get a very bad chattering from the drivers wiperblade at the bottem, and the worse one, is sometimes you cant put the car in reverse, you have to select first, and then reverse, the lip in the boot is high, BUT for me, it isnt so bad, i keep my daughter pram in the boot so when we go shopping, none of the shopping falls out and i do keep the pram in the boot when we go shopping, the back is actually alot bigger than you think, my 6ft 4 brother can actually sit in the back with room to spare, his head does graze the roof but nothing that he isnt used to, you do get some major noise when going over a rough patch on a road but no more than any other car, over all, its a really good little car, nice and easy to drive around town and on backroads, a little bit more noisy on the motorway than id like, but a good car

    • @magicgryszun9216
      @magicgryszun9216 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Voltikz Hi! Just to clarify the reverse shift problem, not sure what year is yours, but i have 2016 with only 10k and found same problem; wont shift to reverse sometimes and am going to neutral and reverse. Mechanics (i working for) said cause its fresh new gearbox and it will eventualy worn a bit and i would be able to shift from any gear to R. Now done almost 1k and problem occuring rarely.

    • @Voltikz95

      @LA Detailing it was a great little car, I replaced with a 2016 KIA sorento because I needed the extra seats, but my personal experience with Kia has overall been very good, take care of the car and it will take care of you, are you asking how my rio was? If so, it was an amazing little car, I can honestly say I miss it, it hardly used any fuel, granted the smaller liter engine leaves you wanting more power, but if your looking for a cheap to run reliable car I couldnt recommend it enough

    good review :), i have been very interested in this kia rio for along time and i am impressed with the 1.1 diesel - 3 cylinder, if i had the money i would buy one. but atleast someone has finally agreed with the idea i have had in my head for such a long time, to make diesel turbos, small but very economical.

    I don't deny that I was impressed by this car. It's cute and it has a lot of nice things about it.
    But what would stop me from buying it is that Mat pointed out that rear visibility isn't so great.

    • @loumidis15
      @loumidis15 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes,but many of those mini cars have that exact problem....I have sat in many with the same problem like polo,ibiza and of course mine Skoda Fabia but you get used to it....I think that kia is a nice option regarding the money you pay for it :)

    • @eternalhalloween1
      @eternalhalloween1 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      loumidis15 Well, you have a point. Maybe it's best to test drive and see if you can handle the limited vision.

    • @loumidis15
      @loumidis15 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      eternalhalloween1
      yes,absolutely right.You can test drive the car and see how suits you best.the problem is that in my country the test drives cars are limited because they sell too much.... Either way the rear visibility problem is solved by parking sensors which actually in my country are usually provided free by the auto dealer as a present for buying a new car :)

      I personally own one but was very disappointed in the fuel consumption. Car owns a great design and good suspension. I can barely look at all the positive comments about the cars being very fuel efficient. THAT's not true!
      How many of you are actually being paid to make such comments..

    • @eternalhalloween1
      @eternalhalloween1 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Steve Cheung How bad is the fuel consumption?
      I can relate to what you're saying.
      I used to hear such great things about Ford. But the Ford I had broke down so much, it should have had a warning label on it. Now people made lots of fun of Dodge. But I had WAY better luck with my Dodge.

    I'm in the states just now and note here that the Kia Rio comes with a 1.6 liter 138 HP engine and a 6 speed auto gearbox, if anyone from Kia reads that how come in the UK we get a 1.4 107 HP engine and an old fashioned 4 speed auto. Oh we also only get the option of hatch back where the USA gats the sedan too, please explain why we pay the most but as usual get less choice and specs.

    Here in the states, they took away the nice, out-of-the-way rear headrests and put in tall ones that help block the view to the rear. Our government at work. Kia removed the grab handle above the driver's door (left front), but I see they removed the right front one on your car. But that's the one used the most because there's always a driver. What's up with that? The cousin to the Rio, the Hyundai Accent, still has those handles.

    The 88mpg is so high because the "gallon" of gas in the metric system is much larger. It is really more like 50 american mpg (that's a rough, off the top of the head conversion)

    The 88mpg figure (73mpg US) is for the 1.1L three cylinder Diesel engine with a manual gearbox in the UK. The 1.4L engine with a manual gearbox has a real world return of 41mpg (34mpg US). We get the 1.6L engine in a much larger car called the Kia Cee'd, and that (again, manual gearbox) returns 43.3mpg (36mpg US).
    If you are getting 26mpg (31mpg UK), blame your driving habits and automatic gear box. Put it in manual mode and change gears around 2.5/3k rpm for max efficiency. 2k for a diesel.

    it doesnt say much about the quality of the cars. the more and more popular kia/hyundai get, the smaller their warranty will get. the large warranty was only put in place because people believed that these brands(korean) had poor quality so they needed the warranty to quell people's concerns. here in america they have a 10 year 100k warranty and have had that ever since i can remember. it is an increased cost to the automaker but it does greatly benefit the consumers.

    @PeetPeeet So what? Look on youtube "BMW 335i Lemon Series" or "BMW Build Quality Issues" or "BMW 7-Series Problems, ACA, A Current Affair". It doesn't mean all BMWs sucks. If you have no luck it doesn't meatter what badge you drive.

    Kia has overstated the MPG figures for most of it's models. Do a google search for 'kia mpg overstatement' to learn the details.

    He says the best engine is the 1.1 diesel. However, it may be the most economical, but from what I've seen the little diesel sounds agricultural and is gutless and needs to be thrashed constantly, which kills its economy. I wish he test drove the 1.1 diesel.

    Nothing about the infotainment system? Usually in these videos you get a few minutes on phone, bluetooth connectivity, satnav, DAB radio etc. Or as I call them driver distractions. How many cyclists, motorcyclists and pedestrians have been hit because the driver was paying more attention to their infotainment system than where they are going? Why do you think having a TV in view of the driver is illegal? That's my penny's worth anyway.

    Drop the Golf or Polo, it's like a car that pretty much everybody seems to have. Let her choose between the Swift or the Rio. She might like the Swift more because it has the looks of a Mini Cooper. The Rio is more a badass car.
